Alejandro Betancourt López (Caracas, 1980) is a businessman Chairman and CEO of Derwick Associates, a Company of engineering, procurement and construction processes of thermoelectric plants.
Biography
Chairman and Ceo of Derwick Associates Corp.. Alejandro Betancourt López has developed his complete career in the energy sector. He earned a double degree in Economics and Business Management at Suffolk University of Massachusetts. Then, he became Trading Manager for Latin America and Executive Trader for the international company ICC-OEOC. This company, with presence in USA, Europe, Latin-America, Middle East and Africa, provides the systems engineering, project management, and coordination services on all petroleum operational and service related. ICC-OEOC Betancourt has also been manager incharge of new business and development of Guruceaga Group. This company deals with international trade of commodities, finances, real state and agriculture commodities. He has also served as director for BGB Energy. This company represented the international corporation Kawasaki Heavy Industries in joint venture with the old GESCA GAS in Venezuela. As CEO of BGB Energy, he took part in the project for Venezuela’s West Interconnection Center (ICO) and was also involved with the planning of a storage area for electric generation equipment. In 2003, he founded with Pedro Trebbau the first Derwick followed by Derwick Associates Corp. in Barbados and Derwick Associates in Venezuela. These are a group of companies specialized in the energy sector whose capital is 100% Venezuelan owned. As Chairman & CEO of Derwick, the company obtained 11 contracts for the construction of power stations in Venezuela during the energy crisis of 2009-2010 in this country.[1] Four contracts were awarded by Electricidad de Caracas (which in December 2011 became part of Corpoelec), five by Petróleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA, with the contract negotiated by Bariven, a division of PDVSA), and one by the Venezuelan Guayana Corporation (CVG). A number of 11 contracts have been completed.[2]

In January 2014, ABC-the senior of Spanish press- published on its business supplement an interview with Alejandro Betancourt López. In this interview, Betancourt explained Derwick’s strategy to become a major supplier of technology for Latin-America.[3]

Awards
In December 2013, Alejandro Betancourt, picked up the award by the Spanish magazine ‘Capital’ to ‘The best technological initiative in Latin-America’.[5] The award recognized the construction of Derwick’s TTC (Turbine Technology Center). The TTC is placed in an industrial area at Guácara –Carabobo State. This center holds a 10.000m2 garage, offices and a training area.[6][7] The Turbine Technology Center is an example of state-of-the-art technology available for providing repair and maintenance services (for industrial, air derivative and steam units), as well as services for associated components thereby supporting the Electrical Generation and Oil Industry in Venezuela.
