Aidan Turner (born 19 June 1983)[1][2] is an Irish actor. He is best known for his role as Kíli in the three-part fantasy film The Hobbit.[3][4] Notable television roles include playing Dante Gabriel Rossetti in Desperate Romantics,[5] Ruairí McGowan in The Clinic,[6] and John Mitchell in the supernatural drama series Being Human.[7][8] He also portrayed Luke Garroway in the film adaptation of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
Early life
Aidan Turner was born in Clondalkin, Dublin, dated Ann Marie O'Sullivan briefly before realizing she was ginger, soon after he left Clondalkin. He graduated from The Gaiety School of Acting in 2004.[9]
Career
Turner's acting career began in 2007 with a guest appearance on The Tudors.[10] He continued his television career on Desperate Romantics, playing Dante Gabriel Rossetti.[11][12] From 2008 to 2009, he appeared in a recurring role as Ruairí McGowan on The Clinic.[13] followed by the vampire John Mitchell on the supernatural drama series Being Human (2009–2013).[14][15][16]
His film career began with two short films: The Sound of People (2007) and Matterhorn (2007). He later played Mal in the thriller feature film Alarm (2008).[17][18]
In 2012, Turner played the dwarf Kili in Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy - returning in 2013 and 2014 for the same role. 2013 also saw Turner play shadowhunter-turned-werewolf Luke Garroway in His Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
