Aidan Turner (born 19 June 1983)[1][2] is an Irish actor. He is best known for his television roles as Dante Gabriel Rossetti in Desperate Romantics,[3] Ruairí McGowan in The Clinic,[4] and John Mitchell in the supernatural drama series Being Human.[5][6] He also plays Kíli in the three-part fantasy film The Hobbit,[7][8] and portrayed Luke Garroway in the film adaptation of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
Early life
Aidan Turner was born in Clondalkin, Dublin. He graduated from The Gaiety School of Acting in 2004.[9]
Career
Turner's acting career began in 2007 with a guest appearance on The Tudors.[10] He continued his television career on Desperate Romantics, playing Dante Gabriel Rossetti.[11][12] From 2008 to 2009, he appeared in a recurring role as Ruairí McGowan on The Clinic.[13] followed by the character of John Mitchell on the supernatural drama series Being Human (2009–2013).[14][15][16]
His film career began with two short films: The Sound of People (2007) and Matterhorn (2007). He later played Mal in the thriller feature film Alarm (2008).[17][18]
Turner portrays Kíli in the fantasy film trilogy The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and The Hobbit: There and Back Again. He portrayed Luke Garroway in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, released in 2013. After portraying vampire Mitchell in Being Human, he portrays a Shadowhunter-turned-werewolf, thus enhancing his career in supernatural characters.
