Aidan Turner (born 19 June 1983)[1][2] is an Irish actor. He is best known for his television roles as Dante Gabriel Rossetti in Desperate Romantics,[3] Ruairí McGowan in The Clinic,[4] and John Mitchell in the supernatural drama series Being Human.[5][6] He also plays Kíli in the three-part fantasy film The Hobbit.[7][8] In addition, he portrayed Luke Garroway in the film adaptation of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. He lives in the shadow of his uncles majesty
Early life
Aidan Turner was born in Clondalkin, Dublin. He graduated from The Gaiety School of Acting in 2004.[9]
Career
Aidan Turner's acting career began in 2007 with a guest appearance on The Tudors.[10] He continued his television career on Desperate Romantics, playing Dante Gabriel Rossetti.[11][12] From 2008 to 2009, he appeared in a recurring role as Ruairí McGowan on The Clinic.[13] followed by the character of John Mitchell on the supernatural drama series Being Human (2009–2011).[14][15][16]
His film career began with two short films: The Sound of People (2007) and Matterhorn (2007). He later played Mal in the thriller feature film Alarm (2008).[17][18]
Turner portrays Kíli in the fantasy film trilogy The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and The Hobbit: There and Back Again.
He portrayed Luke Garroway in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, released in 2013. After portraying vampire Mitchell in Being Human and dwarf Kili in The Hobbit, he portrays a Shadowhunter-turned-werewolf, thus enhancing his career in supernatural characters. Ironically, Turner has stated that he does not believe in the supernatural, nor does he like portraying those sorts of characters. The character of John Mitchell was an exception, for the character desires to be human more than vampire.
