Aboriginal communities in Western Australia are those that have indigenous population as the majority of the inhabitants, and which are either identified by external authorities, or are self identified.
Earlier stages of assistance
In the 1980s and 1990s, effort was made to support indigenous communities [1][2][3]
Politicisation of funding issues
In 2014, the support of some of the communities listed here, and others as well, has been questioned in Western Australian and Australian political discussions.[4][5][6][7]
In 2015 the public discussions continued.[8][9][10][11][12][13][14]
In 2015 Australia wide protests occurred at the withdrawal of government support of the communities. [15]
List
Identification of what constitutes a community relies upon a number of factors. The government authorities have specific criterion, as well as the communities and their self identifications. Clarification of the various ways of identifying is best made against the maps and information provided by the Western Australian Department of Indigenous Affairs. The list here is not necessarily the same list that government authorities are publicly addressing.
