It is also the first album without founding keyboardist James Baney involved during the making of this album.[1] Alternative Press premiered the album in its entirety via their website on September 10th 2013 to promote the release.[2]

At Alternative Press, Scott Heisel proclaimed it to be an excellently "solid record".[3] At HM, they affirmed this was "a refreshing work of self-awareness".[4] Aurko of The Circle Pit gave the album an 8/10, saying that " Regardless of who dons the headphones, “8:18” is a good, solid record in its own right."[5] Rob Foster of Kill Your Stereo gave the album 83/100, concluding that "'8:18' is a very strong release, and is easily the best full length that The Devil Wears Prada have released yet."[6]
