The .sic generic top-level domain, as abbreviation of SICULITAS (Székely) was requested at ICANN in 2009 and accepted on 13th of May 2009.[citation needed]
The new .SIC TLD is requested upon the initiative of the Szekler National Council for presenting Szeklerland on the Internet. A domain name for Szeklerland makes it possible that Szekler self-governments, institutions, companies, private individuals have an Internet presence.
ICANN accepted the .sic TLD together with other nine regional domain names for Quebec, Scotland, Bretagne, Cornwall, England, Wales, Leon, Basque country and Galicia.
