In the fall of 1998, Aaron Muderick was designing web sites for a living and, overall, having fun in the dot com world. He was always on the lookout for "the ultimate office toy." One day he convinced a good number of his colleagues to pool their resources and buy 100lbs of Bouncing Putty from a large chemical supplier. After much convincing, cajoling, and coordinating, the shipment finally arrived. |
Watching people react to Putty -- in adult sizes -- was a unique experience. Some people just looked at it, hesitant to touch something that might be "sticky" or "gooey." Other people weren't comfortable playing with a toy in front of their coworkers Eventually, though, their subconscious won them over and they couldn't put it down! Squeezing, stretching, and shaping--they didn't even realize they were holding it! As it melted their stress away, their creative potential was unleashed! |
Needless to say, not much work was done at the office that day! Very quickly, all the putty was gone. As the company grew, people kept visiting Aaron's cube asking for more. After some investment, experiments, and late nights of putty research in his mother's basement, the word started to get around the office. Aaron was selling putty by the pound from a box under my desk. People would stop by. They'd pick their favorite color (which he had learned to create), and they'd weigh it out on the desk with a pocket scale and a plastic baggie. Not too long afterwards, he was officially dubbed "Crazy" Aaron. |

Well, dot com's bomb and so it goes. Puttyworld was born in the spring of 2001 and they've been having crazy fun ever since. After expanding beyond the capacity of his mother's basement, Aaron moved the production of Thinking Putty (named because it stimulates your brain by keeping your hands busy) to a vocational facility in Philadelphia's suburbs. There Thinking Putty is proudly Made in the USA. Try some Thinking Putty and become part of the story! |
