This is Invertzoo's user page. I live in NYC. My user name reflects my interest in invertebrate zoology. I hope I can be classified as a malacologist; I am primarily a serious amateur, but not just a conchologist. One or two people (you know who you are!) call me "The Snail Lady", and some others call me "The Shell Lady". I am interested in all mollusks, and indeed in all of nature.
Here on Wikipedia I enjoy research, writing, re-writing, improving prose, clarifying, organizing, and adding images to articles. I believe that Wikilove is a very important concept here. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

I don't really enjoy doing routine cleanup on thousands of stub articles, but I have done that.
I was born in and lived half of my life in England, and after that in the USA, first on the West Coast and then on the East Coast. Every year since 1991 I have visited the Lesser Antilles, West Indies, where I am currently investigating the marine mollusk fauna of several of the Leeward Islands.
I started here in the summer of 2007. I give images to Commons, my account, my images. My Meta account is here. I have made over 60,000 edits. During March 2010 I was number 317 on the Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by number of recent edits, (and a much higher rank if you don't count the bots and the sysops.) By March of 2011, I was number 433 by total number of edits: [1] And... yes I am well aware that editcountitis is a serious disease! [2].
The first time that I had the pleasure and honor of meeting HRH Jimmy of Wales, our handsome and somewhat mysterious founder, was at the first Wiki-Conference New York, 25th July 2009, where I gave a talk on the growth and development of Wikipedia:WikiProject Gastropods. I also conversed with Mr. Wales on Oct 6th and 7th, 2010.
My user page is long and very full of stuff, but I use it to keep me motivated. You are welcome to ignore it, or only look at the sections you are interested in.
Best wishes to you all, Invertzoo (talk).

My relevant background
Expertise:
- Mollusks, I have 30 published papers, a list is here.
- I have lots of fieldwork experience with, and am good at identifying, the British non-marine Mollusca.
- I also have done considerable field work with and can identify most of: the British marine mollusks, the marine mollusks of the West Coast of North America (especially of Southern California, and the marine mollusks of both eastern North America and the Caribbean tropical faunal zone, which is currently my particular area of study.
- I also have some experience in paleontology, including two publications on Pleistocene fossil mollusks. A pdf of the American Paleontologist article (p, 12–13) is here.
- I am happy to call myself a naturalist in the British tradition. I usually will agree to being called a biologist.
- I have had some years experience in museums (MCZ, AMNH) with mollusks, including four years with fossil mollusks.
Also know:
* I have visited Nevis 14 times, also see Saint Kitts and Nevis. I know something about classic films (especially Hitchcock movies). I have a long-standing interest in Tibetan Buddhism, and vegetarian food. I have a special interest in the history of National Lampoon magazine and in humor and cartooning in general. I am reasonably knowledgeable on the subject of Menopause and other women's health topics.

I have a pretty good background in fashion history and fabrics. I know a fair bit about surfing, swimming, and all kinds of other seaside stuff. Oh, I also know more than a little about Hatha Yoga, writing for artists, various kinds of music, and other stuff besides...
Recent Wikipedia editing
2011 Creating stub articles for missing genera. Checking and cleaning up new snail articles and tagging them with our project template. Welcoming new contributors of snail-related articles, inviting them to join Project Gastropods, and training them in the ways of Wikipedia. Not much work Jan–June due to a family health crisis, then tore my ACL in early September and was partially incapacitated for 3 months. In November almost 40 new stubs about the original National Lampoon and working on that template.
2010 A great deal of work on improving Portal:Gastropods. Also going through thousands of older gastropod stub articles and others (including the family articles), fixing them up with lots of different clean up. I also tried to clean up some of the "most popular" (i.e. the most often accessed) gastropod articles, and upgraded their importance.
Some tasks that still need doing:
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Gastropods/January 2010/N to Z. Continue cleanup for N to Z, N done to # 203, Z done in reverse order to # 2476
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Gastropods/Needed genus. Adding needed genus articles which have pre-existing species articles (only 17 left on 29/12/11)
