The soundtrack of the film received mainly positive reviews from contemporary critics. Rumnique Nannar of Bollyspice gave the soundtrack three and a half stars and opined, "the album succeeds in all respects, since it features a remake, a retro song, and two gems, and manages to fit with the film’s tone and mood of the 80s".<ref name="Bollyspice Review">{{cite web | url=http://bollyspice.com/64540/once-upon-a-time-in-mumbai-dobara-music-review | title=Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbaai Dobaara! Rajiv Vijayakar writing for Bollywood Hungama analised and reviewed each song on its own merit. |
|||
*Ye Tune Kya Kiya - A Sufi song in its roots the reviewer praised Pritam, the Composer for adhering to deep melodies in parts thereby bridging the generation gap between the best of the melodious past and today's music and for handing it out more of a Sufi-Rock treatment. According to the reviewer it serves as a rightful successor to the Sufi song called Tumjo Aye Mere Zindagi Mein from the soundtrack of the prequel but this time its more intricately designed and pays a tribute to it by composing it in this Genre. He credits the play of strings in the interlude and phonetics in playing a major role in boosting the soulful content it carries with it. |
|||
*Tayyab Ali - A modern adaption of song of same in the 1970's film, Amar Akbar Anthony by Pritam's assistant, Anupam Amod sets itself apart from the contempory recreations in recreating the near-identical situation to the original song, and the imaginative contemporary tenor. He furthermore praised the smart addition of lyrics by Lyricist and writer of the film, Rajat Aroraa to the original irreverent chorus by Anand Bakshi, Pritam replicating the old orchestration only to a basic extent, keeping the choral patterns different too and avoided unnecessary comparison between the Mohammed Rafi and Javed Ali stating that would be unfair and odious. |
|||
*Tu Hi Khwahish - A counterpart of Parda from the previous soundtrack which itself found its sources in two classics. The energetic, laced with intesenly romantical lyrics and richly acoustical in arrangements according to the reviewer is a hark back to such tracks from Prakash Mehra and Feroz Khan with Kalyanji-Anandji and orchestral nuances reminding us of R.D. Burman!. He concluded with stating it to be the finest track which inspite of some high-pitched vocals from Sunidhi Chauhan does not jar on the ears at even for a sole point of time. |
|||
*Chugliyaan - The weakest link of the album he critised it for being too calculated in melodies and lyrics and thereby got executed at the end as an average and orthodox track. He critised it not for being bad but being the ad-infinitum grooves frequented by lesser skilled composers. |

Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara! [2] (abbreviated as OUATIMD and previously known as Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again) is an upcoming Bollywood crime gangster film directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor. A sequel to the 2010 film Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, the film will feature Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan in leading roles and Sonali Bendre in a supporting role.
The first trailer of the film was released on 28 May 2013. The film, on the other hand is expected to be released on the Independence Day, 15 August 2013. The release date of the film was pushed further by the producers to avoid clashing with Rohit Shetty's film Chennai Express, which released on 9 August 2013.[1] This is the third collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha as a pair (after 2012 films Rowdy Rathore and Joker), and the first between Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan.
Plot
The movie commences from where the previous film ended with Shoaib Khan (Akshay Kumar) being the reigning don after successfully assassinating his mentor as well as his predecessor, Sultan Mirza (Ajay Devgn) thus earning the respect and reverence of the people. His sole companions and friends are Javed, who oversees his illegal and shady works for him, his old-time love Mumtaz (Sonali Bendre) and Aslam (Imran Khan), a youth spotted by Shoaib during one of his visits to the slums, where he once spent the early years of his life.
The only obstacles on Shoaib's path to supremacy in Bombay are two enemies of Shoaib, Vardha and Arun. Sreenu, a police officer joins hands with Vardha and Arjun as the trio's intention of ruining Shoaib coincides.
Although the city still being his first love a rising starlet, Jasmine has caught the fancy of Shoaib's heart. In due time this passion takes the shape of obsession and leads to a rift between Shoaib and Aslam as they both vie for Jasmine's love.[5]

Production
Filming
The filming began in Mumbai during August 2012. The first part of the shooting schedule started in September 2012 in Oman.[7]
Casting
The lead role was initially chosen to be played by Emraan Hashmi, who also appeared in the original film. However, director Milan Luthria was searching for an older actor, and hence chose Akshay Kumar. Kumar is to play the role of Shoaib Khan (Dawood Ibrahim). In February 2012, it was announced that there were two male leads in the film, and the second parallel to Kumar, was signed to Shahid Kapoor. However, in March 2012, it was finalized that Imran Khan was actually playing the second male lead.[8] Many female actors were considered for the female lead, including Illeana D'Cruz, Kareena Kapoor, Kangna Ranaut, Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, however in April 2012, it was reported that Sonakshi Sinha had been casted.[9] Sonali Bendre has also been roped in to play a leading character in the film.[10][11] The film will mark Sonali Bendre's first role since Shankar Dada MBBS. In November 2012, it was announced that the film is scheduled to release on Eid 2013.[12][13] TV actor Chetan Hansraj will also play a pivotal negative part in this film.
Marketing and release
Akshay Kumar will be playing the fictitious role of gangster Dawood Ibrahim. Kumar's character look was revealed on an reality show on Aapka Colors. It has also been reported that the film will feature an sequence with Kumar watching a cricket match as shown in trailer released on 28 May 2013 but the match is between India and Pakistan at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium in the '80s, is not been confirmed.[14] The trailer was launched in the dingy chawl of mumbai where much of the films outdoor shoot has taken place.[15] In order to promote the film, Akshay Kumar travelled to Birmingham to watch the India-Pakistan cricket match of 2013 ICC Champions Trophy on June 15, 2013.[16] A second trailer of the film was released on 3rd July 2013 which featured a narration by Akshay Kumar's character, Shoiab Khan and divulged further information about the films plot such as the characters of Akshay Kumar and Imran Khan involving in a struggle for the love of Jasmine, portrayed in the film by Sonakshi Sinha. In the trailer it is revealed that Shoiab Khan is the lead as well as the main antagonist of the film. It also features some fight and action sequences between Shoiab Khan and Aslam (Imran Khan). Mohar Basu of Koimoi praised the second trailer, its background score along with the direction and action choreography and opined that the second trailer is even better than the film’s first trailer in the respective aspects of filmmaking and leaves an explosive impact on its audiences.[17] The three leading characters of the film namely, Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan, the producer of the film Ekta Kapoor along with most other members of the cast and crew visited the Dargah Sharif. A shrine of Sufi Saint Moinuddin Chishti situated in Ajmer it was visited on the morning 5th of August, Monday in a bid to pray for the commercial success of the film and the well-being of the relatives of the members associated with the film respectively.[18]
Controversies
Initially, Shah Rukh Khan starrer Chennai Express and Akshay Kumar starrer Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara! both have been abandoned by Pakistani distributors and exhibitors in the interest of four of their own films releasing on the same day but now it has been finalised that both the films will be released in Pakistan.[19]
The prequel to the film, which was Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, had storyline and characters that were similar to real-life underworld dons according to film critics. The same was speculated about the sequel with the visual appearance of the lead character being strikingly similar to Dawood Ibrahim along with several aspects of the film like glimpses of Shoaib's involvement in cricket matches shown in the first theatrical trailer comparable to Dawood's alleged strong hold in monopolisation of cricket matches. Shoaib Khan romancing a starlet, portrayed on-screen by Sonakshi Sinha also drew attention with Dawood's rumoured affair with 1980's mainstream-film actress Mandakini, more so with the real name of Mandakini being Yasmeen Joseph which had an uncanny resemblance to the original name of the character, Yasmin. Thus the name was later changed to Jasmine in-light of such controversies.[20]
Answering to such speculations, the producer of the film, lead and director of the venture have time and again despised such allegations and remained firm on their statement that the film is entirely fictional thereby clearing the air of rumours.[21]
