MSC Meraviglia is a cruise ship owned and operated by MSC Cruises, built at its Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in St. Nazaire, France, by STX France. Meraviglia is the lead ship of MSC's new "Vista Project" vessels, with the MSC Bellissima planned to follow in 2019, each of which will have a passenger capacity of 4,500. When it debuted in June 2017, it was the 4th largest cruise ship in the world, behind Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class ships.
The ship is initially operating in the western Mediterranean, calling on ports such as Malta, Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Naples, Messina, Citaveccia and Palermo in her inaugural season. In the fall of 2019, she will reposition to Miami, sailing to the Caribbean as part of a North American expansion program by MSC.[4]
Meraviglia has a promenade with a long LED roof, a water park with 3-4 water slides and a Himalayan rope course. The ship's entertainment includes a theater and a Cirque du Soleil show in its own theatre at the back of the ship. The ship also features over 10 restaurants and a bellemese spa named the MSC Aurea spa.[5]
The vessel's name was announced, and her first steel was cut, at a ceremony held at St Nazaire on 20 April 2015.[5] The ship was officially christened June 3, 2017 by her godmother, Italian actress Sophia Loren [6] at a ceremony in Le Havre also featuring French actor Patrick Bruel, musical group Kids United, and comedian Gad Elmaleh.[7]
