Finding a source
- Tips for finding a source yourself
- Send a request to the author(s) of research papers for a copy of their paper by email
- Check on Google Books, or your local library or national library may be able to obtain it through an interlibrary loan or subscription
- Search Google Scholar for archived copies of journals in institutional repositories
- Check whether your alma mater's library offers electronic document delivery services for alumni—many do, for a small fee
Note that sites like LibGen and Sci-Hub offer direct, free access to a very large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.
- Making a request
- A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work
- All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
- We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. Please ask for specific pages that relate to the article(s) you need them for
- You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page
- To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences
- Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN ISSN, PMID, etc.
- Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
- Filled requests are archived.
- Requests unfilled after three months will be archived

Takeoff!
I started a stub article on the novel Takeoff! including the one source that I had, and based on the ISFDB link for this novel[1] there are reviews in at least the following:
- Review by Spider Robinson (1980) in Analog Science Fiction/Science Fact, August 1980
- Review by Tom Easton (1980) in Analog Science Fiction/Science Fact, October 1980
Review by Baird Searles (1980) in Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine, November 1980Review by Steve Brown (1980) in Thrust, #15, Summer 1980Review by Tom Staicar (1981) in Amazing Stories, May 1981- Review by Donald M. Hassler (1986) in Fantasy Review, October 1986
If anyone can find copies of any of those reviews, to either provide me with a copy or to add information directly to the article if interested, that would be appreciated! :) BOZ (talk) 14:29, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
- @BOZ: #4 (Thrust #15, Summer 1980) is available online at the Internet Archive (see page 44). —Bruce1eetalk 17:25, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
- @BOZ: Archives of Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine issues can be found here while Amazing Stories are here. While Analog Science Fiction is here, 1980 is not covered. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 18:05, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Neopeius and Mike Christie: Do either of you have the above sources, or different sources that would help with the article? Kees08 (Talk) 16:27, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
Thanks Bruce1ee and MrLinkinPark333, I added something from those three reviews to the article. :) BOZ (talk) 20:54, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry, BOZ and Kees08, not sure how I missed this ping -- I only noticed it because I was on this page looking for something else. I've checked and I do still have the two 1980 Analog issues, but they're in a box somewhere in the basement and I've no idea which one. I'll try to remember to let you know when they eventually come out, probably later this year. I don't have any copies of Fantasy Review, and a quick look through my references finds nothing. According to Google Books there's a short review in Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Review Annual 1988, edited by Latham and Collins. New Zealand newspaper articles (1990s-2000s)
Hello. I'm looking for these New Zealand sources for an upcoming article on Joan Harnett former netball player turned real estate agent:
Barton, Warren (2 January 1997). "The 'golden girl' of netball". Dominion. Wellington, New Zealand. p. 11.Fifield, Amanda (20 October 2001). "When sport is a metaphor for life". The Press. Christchurch. supplement p. 1.- "Netballer Joan Harnett-Kindley". Christchurch Star. 17 March 2004. p. A1.
These are all found in these search results here. As there's many of them, I picked the ones that I thought might be helpful for her post-netball career. Thanks! MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 02:56, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

Pliosaurid papers
- Hilary F. Ketchum and Roger B. J. Benson (2011). "A new pliosaurid (Sauropterygia, Plesiosauria) from the Oxford Clay Formation (Middle Jurassic, Callovian) of England: evidence for a gracile, longirostrine grade of Early-Middle Jurassic pliosaurids". Special Papers in Palaeontology. 86: 109–129.CS1 maint: uses authors parameter (link)
- Noè, Leslie F. (2001). A taxonomic and functional study of the Callovian (Middle Jurassic) Pliosauroidea (Reptilia, Sauropterygia) (Thesis). Chicago: University of Derby.
I've been working on a substantial expansion to Peloneustes, and both of these publications have stood out to me as utile for the section on paleoenvironment, with the first also being significant for classification and the second for paleobiology. I've spent some considerable time looking for these publications, but without success. Can anyone email them to me?

Hi! For Donkey Kong Country, I'd like to see the reviews Diehard GameFan and Game Informer wrote. They're in the December and November 1994 issue, respectively and hopefully the information I provided above is enough. Thanks! JOEBRO64 01:45, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

- Gleeanon409, sent #2, #3 (it's not a monograph but an edited volume; the one hit on p 168 is from an article by Capino, see table of contents). As a side-note, if you see that an index shows a few-pages span, it would generally be helpful if you could give us that page range ;). As to #4, I can access the printed volume next week, but am not sure what you'd like me to do. You write that you don't know what's in there, but presumably something prompted you to request it ... Do you have a page? Do you expect a mention in the index? — Pajz (talk) 01:10, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Pajz:, thank you!
- For #4, I’m hoping either “John Duffy” and/or “jd Slater” will pop result(s) but google books gave only that “something” was there. He came of age in nyc and was a model, porn actor so pier sex is in line. Gleeanon409 (talk) 05:28, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

- @Gleeanon409: As a matter of best practice, I don't think it is a good idea to extend threads ad infinitum with new requests, and would suggest instead that you create a new section once you realise at a later point that you need additional material from other works as well. Thanks. --Gazal world (talk) 11:16, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry, the article is at AFD so I’m trying to find some reasonably strong sources to keep it from being deleted. - Hi Umimmak, unfortunately I have not been able to find anything about the article's internal structure, so I don't know. Is there an index of sections? Constantine ✍ 10:30, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
- Cplakidas, well, I second the comment that that's just too many pages. If you're based in Vienna, perhaps you have a chance to access the volume in the National Library (ZDB record). If, for whatever reason, that doesn't work for you, I can either (a) check first if there is a table of contents (and, if so, send it to you) or (b) send you the requested page range (ie, pp. 200-250) right away. Let me know how you wish to proceed. Thanks. — Pajz (talk) 17:52, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

Some video game reviews
- "Worms". Amiga Action (78). January 1996. ISSN 0957-4050.
- "Christmas Games Guide". Computer Trade Weekly (565). 1995-11-27. p. 43.
Hello guys, looking for particular reviews from some old game magazines. I'm writing an article about Worms 1995 video game from scratch in the Russian Wikipedia (it is going to replace the existing stub and become featured). I'm able to find most of the reviews online, but some are unavailable, like this one. Maybe I will add more articles from other magazines to my request some time later or will create a new request if this one will be archived by that time, but for now it's just what you see.
Thank you very much for your efforts. Coolak (talk) 20:26, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
P. S. please ping me if you're able to help and/or comment anything because I barely open English Wikipedia. Thank you. Coolak (talk) 20:43, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Coolak, I haven't found a full run of Amiga Action claimed by preservationists. There are a bunch of Amiga and retro mag preservationist circles online that you could ask, but it's going to be hard to find. Alternatively, @Miyagawa, are you still a reader at the British Library? This editor is looking for a scan from issue 78 from this holding. For more holdings, see OCLC 872610756. (not watching, please

Indeed, I have seen on abime that it's one of the rare issues, and I have used all of the Google Search advanced techniques that I know of. That's why I created this request as the last resort, so maybe someone with access to British libraries could help. Coolak (talk) 01:31, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
Added a page from a weekly UK newspaper to my request. Now it's more than "video game reviews", but I decided to keep the title in case someone has it bookmarked. Coolak (talk) 09:08, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
It's so refreshing!
Hi guys, I'm resurrecting ye olden text citations. I'm a newbie to Wikipedia Library still.

La Franco, Robert (June 3, 1996). "Take That, Nintendo". Forbes. Vol. 157 no. 11. pp. 96–97. Retrieved August 4, 2020.
I can't find Electronic Gaming Monthly at all or full Forbes (only the abstract) [edit: I found full Forbes] in EBSCO or ProQuest though those citations say they were in Business Source Complete in 2013. That's EBSCO, right? Did they leave EBSCO? Thanks! — Smuckola(talk) 06:37, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Smuckola: I have access to the third article (from my university ProQuest account). Please Wikimail me and I'll send it to you. —Bruce1eetalk 06:47, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict:) Smuckola, I've sent you #3 from EBSCO. I can likewise not find the Electronic Gaming Monthly in EBSCO. I don't know if it's vanished from all bundles but I also noticed some discrepancy to our local library catalogue (which states that our EBSCO subscription extends to Electronic Gaming Monthly, issues 2000-12-01 - 2009-01-01), so that may indicate that indeed something changed on EBSCO's part. — Pajz (talk) 06:55, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Bruce1ee: thanks anyway, I got #3 from Pajz. @Pajz: Oh my goodness, are you telling me that there are different entire sets of publications in each bundle in different institutions' subscriptions to EBSCO? They bounce publications around between collections like Netflix versus HBO versus Starz, or Hulu versus Hulu Plus versus Live TV? That stinks. So does WP:LIBRARY have no EGM and only abstracts of Forbes? [edit: I found full Forbes] Or is it possible that they're duplicated in other collections within the multiverse of Wikipedia Library? I mean I don't even know how to search where to search within WP:LIBRARY. If not, this just makes us cite the third party master search engines like Internet Archive or fansites of magazine scans. Oh well, they can't take those away. I just care that I can make a permanent and free-of-charge accessible citation. Thank you so much for #3 at least, because I do need to read these myself for expanding the Wikipedia articles! — Smuckola(talk) 10:53, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
- Smuckola, don't know, or perhaps I misunderstand what you're saying. It's certainly true is that EBSCO offers different products with different publications and that, as a result of that, different institutions have access to different materials. I do not think, however, that if two institutions subscribe to EBSCO Business Source Complete they have access to different sets of publications. The institutions I am affiliated with do subscribe to EBSCO Business Source Complete, EBSCO Academic Search Complete, and a few other bundles, and I noticed in one of the local library catalogues that it says we have access to Electronic Gaming Monthly via EBSCO, while in fact, it doesn't look like we do. Given that these local catalogue entries are typically imported from the likes of EBSCO when the database is integrated into the local catalogue, and that the subsequent updating often isn't that reliable, my guess was simply that the journal used to be available in EBSCO but no longer is. That does happen sometimes. I take it from Umimmak's comment that they've run into a similar issue. — Pajz (talk) 17:15, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
@Smuckola: in theory I have online access to the first two, but I'm having issues with the database so I've emailed my librarian and hopefully I can get a response. At the very least once COVID is over I'll have access to the print volumes. (P.S. You might want to consider striking out the third request if you've received a copy already just to make things clearer to other editors.) Umimmak (talk) 14:40, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Umimmak: Guess what. In fact, Nikki of the WP:LIBRARY sent me this URL to the full article of #3 and it is the same content as what Pajz had sent me. Can I shorten that URL? Are you guys thinking that WP:LIBRARY has no EGM whatsoever? Thanks! — Smuckola(talk) 01:41, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
@Smuckola: hey just wanted to give an update and that I still am working on the Electronic Gaming Monthly but it's taking me longer than expected to fulfill those requests. Umimmak (talk) 20:55, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
- Looks like this is gonna be even more delayed, my library has had a lot of services pushed back recently. Might have to wait until things open up more, apologies for any false hope. Umimmak (talk) 19:57, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
Reference supporting a statement about the addition of polynomials
I am struggling to find a reference for a basic statement about the addition of polynomials. It's for this article: Polynomials. While it's trivial to find references supporting the claim that the set of polynomials is closed under the operation of addition, some editors (including myself) would like to see if we could construct a statement that can be referenced without the word "closed". The current wording is:
a sum of polynomials is always another polynomial.
Proposed alternative wording includes:
the addition of polynomials is an operation that takes any two polynomials and produce always another polynomial
The suggestion has been made that this source is worth reviewing:

Mission field, a monthly record of the proceedings of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts, volume 81, 1936.
For Thomas Bray
This is a bit of a tough one. I am working on the early life of Thomas Bray and in a biography I found a key citation for an article in this journal. Unfortunately the citation only read "Mission Field December 1936", so without an article title I can't use interlibrary loan. This journal is available on HathiTrust but only until 1918. It might be in a specialized periodical database like ATLA or if you are a patron of one of the libraries that owns the print version (including Columbia, Cornell, Yale, McGill, the British Library, Cambridge, Birmingham.) maybe you could use whatever remote document scanning services are available.
If you find it you will have my thanks and I'll be glad to fetch a scan of something from the Library of Congress for you when it reopens.

- Well, I have access to a physical copy of the journal (on paper) and could presumably scan the article from there, but I never know with these "Who has access to the PDF?" requests if that means that the requesting user would prefer an existing PDF for convenience (but would have access to the journal anyway) or they deem their requested resource so unimportant for their work that they would not want to ask someone to go through the process of scanning the pages. Or, of course, whether it's just an ordinary request for an article and they really don't care about the way it is fulfilled. — Pajz (talk) 07:18, 20 August 2020 (UTC)

#1 and #7 is to be used in Actors of the Comédie-Française. #2 is to check for bibliography on Polish Woman. #3 and #5 is to be used in Actors of the Comédie-Française, La Boudeuse, and The Embarrassing Proposal. #4 and #6 is to be used in La Boudeuse. P. S. Forgot to add one more book to request. Gleb95 (talk) 16:00, 23 August 2020 (UTC).
