This page lists proposed article mergers as a supplement to the merge categories; it is an index of ongoing discussions of possible mergers, and does not replace any of the other steps in the merger process. Please add the appropriate merger tag(s) to the articles before listing them here. To see all articles marked for merging, see All articles tagged for merging.
Note
Mergers of CATEGORIES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
Mergers of TEMPLATES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Templates for discussion.
SPLITTING of ARTICLES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Proposed article splits.
How to propose a merger
There are three types of mergers on Wikipedia:
- mergers that are so obviously necessary and appropriate that no one is expected to object;
- mergers that would benefit from discussion with the other editors at the affected articles' Talk page about whether and/or how to perform the merge; and
- mergers that are either controversial or potentially difficult to carry out, and therefore need assistance from uninvolved editors in determining whether to merge the pages.
If the pages that you would like to merge fall into the type 1 group, then it is not necessary to propose a merger at all. You should boldly do the merger now, without formally proposing it. (In the event that someone unexpectedly objects, then the merger can be undone easily, and you can formally propose the merger for discussion at that time.)
If the merge falls into the type 2 group or type 3 group, or a formal discussion is needed or wanted, then proposing a merger can be done in three steps (as the proposer, you should still be willing to carry-out the merger in a type 2 article):
- Step 1: Create a place for discussion. Go to the Talk Page (also known as the discussion page) of the TARGET ARTICLE (the one you want to merge to) and create a section (eg: "Merger proposal") to discuss the merger. If there's already a discussion on the talk page regarding the merger, you can omit this step. Whether the discussion is new or old, make sure the discussion section names all articles involved and links to them. The section name can be anything that includes the word merge (for example
==Merger discussion==
). - Step 2: Put one of the merger tags at the top of the articles you wish to be merged. The templates {{Merge from}} and {{Merge to}}, or {{merge}} are the most common ones. Remember to make sure that the Discuss link in each tag points to the section you've created in step 1 (this is to prevent having two separate discussions on different talk pages).
- Step 3: If the proposed merge is controversial or potentially difficult to carry out, follow the directions under #Requests for merge assistance and feedback to add it to the list.
- See: Copy and Paste easy merge templates for easy to follow shortcuts of the above procedure.
Requests for merge assistance and feedback
If you need outside feedback regarding mergers that are either tricky or of a controversial nature, please do the following:
- Tag the article as shown above
- Create a discussion as shown above
- Notify the talk page of the appropriate Wikiproject to get knowledgeable people to comment on it. (To find out which Wikiproject the page is associated with, check the associated talk page. It should be tagged with a template, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey.)
- If there is consensus to merge, but the merge is difficult, contact Wikipedia Talk:WikiProject Merge for assistance.
For other topics:
- If you need help with renaming or moving, consult Wikipedia:Moving a page.
- Cut-and-paste move fixes: If you have merged an article by this deprecated method, then you need to request page histories to be merged; list them at requests for history merge. Please DO NOT perform further moves by cut and paste.
NOTE: Please do not re-list old merge proposals that are already tagged and in the "to Merge" queue (including requests made up to two years ago), as these will be handled as we get to them. -Project Merge
Merge requests
New requests
If you need assistance with proposing a merge, list it below and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the merge completed, as there is a large merge backlog. After a merge is listed properly, move it to the "Answered requests" or "Awaiting consensus" sections below as appropriate.
Please list new requests at the bottom of this section. Use the edit summary and list at least a link to the article to be redirected. Please legitimize your request by signing each listing or comment by typing four tildes (~~~~). Unsigned requests may not be honored.
- Merge https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Articles_containing_Guarani-language_text and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Articles_containing_Guaran%C3%AD-language_text . It seems like the two categories only differ in what i they use and there's no reason to have two different pages and categories. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 11:41, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
Awaiting consensus
After all involved articles are tagged for merger discussion, the request should be added at (or moved to) the bottom of this section. This section can also be used if a proposal needs further discussion due to age or disagreement. All merger comments and discussions should be directed to the Discussion subsection of the targeted articles' talk page, not here. We will also attempt to get more people to comment on proposals.
Merge Summer Mummers into Yucca Theater (Midland, Texas). Summer Mummers is an event held at the Yucca Theater in Midland, Texas and I think having that event listed in the Yucca article would be beneficial than two separate articles the former of which doesn't cite any sources and I think it could help the latter article in someway. - Comment: Proposer @Pahiy: should consider proceeding with a BOLD merge as the only comment(s) currently support a merge. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 05:53, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
Merge Zack Nichols, James Deakins, Danny Ross and Ron Carver into List of Law & Order: Criminal Intent characters. The characters' articles are short, mostly plot and have no references besides the series episodes. 108.41.60.144 (talk) 01:11, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Merge Drumline into Marching percussion. These two articles are just too similar in my opinion. They both go over the same instruments, one being slightly focused on musical roles (drumline) and the other on the actual instrument (marching percussion). I think these two articles (and possibly Front ensemble)) could be combined. If not then the drumline should depart from simply listing instruments to discussing the actual development of the ensemble. What do you guys think? Why? I Ask (talk) 15:07, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Merge Lakh to Indian numbering system. Been open and articles tagged for over 6 months and likely no sign of consensus. One of two dependent discussions poorly set up independently to add to mess. Needs resolution.Djm-leighpark (talk) 10:00, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

Merge Please merge Liverpool Overhead Railway electric units into Liverpool Overhead Railway, under "Rolling Stock". The information on the Electric units article largely mirrors the information on the main Liverpool Overhead Railway article, and any information differences could be moved into the "Rolling Stock" section on the Liverpool Overhead Railway. Merge Google Chrome for Android to Google Chrome. This was originally proposed in 2013 and closed with no comments. My current merge discussion has been open since July 27th with no comments. Chrome has evolved since its launch to where functionality and updates on mobile have been synchronized across all platforms. It seems to be a no brainer for this article to be merged and anything useful from this article to be added to the main Chrome article. – The Grid (talk) 12:58, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

Merge Please merge Qantas fleet history into Qantas fleet. The Qantas fleet article is short and only details the current aircraft used, and the Qantas fleet history article only details aircraft that were historically used. Merging the two together would make a more centralised place for information regarding Qantas aircraft. Thanks! Jh15s (talk) 08:06, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Merge Please merge Liverpool Overhead Railway Southern Extension Tunnel into Dingle railway station. The Southern Extension Tunnel is a part of the Dingle railway station and does not need a separate article as they are technically the same. The article on the tunnel is also short and without any citations so it would be better for it to be moved into a separate section in the Dingle railway station article. Thanks! - Working Completed "no-brainer" merge was reverted. The locals are working it out. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 01:04, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
- Creating a discussion fork on the other article for a limited time period, ignoring the previous discussion, leaving the new forked discussion in place for a short period only; possibly leaving a comment implying I am a Scouser, loss of categories not moved to redirect; failure to precisely and fully follow WP:PROMERGE though arguably that is part of an information page.
