Rename to Category:Films set in the Gaza Strip - because the only article in the category is German film Gaza Surf Club, which describes events in Gaza Strip under Hamas governance, and this area is de-facto not controlled by State of Palestine government (set in Ramallah).GreyShark (dibra) 06:51, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
What are you suggesting for this new Gaza category: that it should exclude any films set before the 2010s? There is no such implication in its name. Would that film not fit in both new categories that you have proposed?
As for the Palestine (region) categories, they are useful as a parent for navigating between historical periods. I don't recognise your suggestion that I am "trying to promote" a "whole other bunch". I briefly worked on populating and inter-linking a few categories about this region, as discussed with you at Category talk:Novels set in Israel. – FayenaticLondon 11:30, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Again, why did you choose the region of Palestine as navigating parent, while you could also do Syria (region), Land of Israel, Eastern Mediterranean, West Bank, Levant, etc.? Would you also expand the later regions into navigating parents? (it is nonsense to have multiple navigating parents in my opinion). Geographic regions are not generally utilized in Wikipedia for parenting countries, except for the internationally defined regions (Asia, West Asia, etc.). I think we should also get rid of West Bank and Middle East nav parents as well, together with Palestine (region) - merging all into West Asia as a common parent to all.GreyShark (dibra) 08:01, 17 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Comment, the Gaza strip isn't recognized as a separate country by the international community, but it's not clearly a part of any existing country either. The original nomination to merge to to Category:Films set in Palestine (region) isn't that bad after all. Having this article in a region category instead of a country category is admittedly a bit vague, but the real political situation is quite vague too. Nominator's rationale: /Upmerging to both parent cats. There is only one article here--no reason to have its own category. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 00:03, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
