00:41:38, 23 September 2015 review of submission by Greenzeiger

I'm working on my first article which recently got rejected due to lack of notability. Right now, I've got two sources referenced which if I'm understanding this correctly would be considered secondary sources (The Phoenix Masonry and the Museum of Fezology sites). I was wondering if the reason it was rejected is because these aren't really considered secondary? Alternatively, is the issue that, while they are valid secondary sources, their content isn't specifically focused sufficiently on what makes the organization notable? I'm just trying to understand exactly what I need to supplement them with. I've got a bunch of reasonably substantive newspaper citations I could add, but as I understand it, those would be considered primary. I also have an article about the organization in a printed fraternal encyclopedia, but I guess that is tertiary. Would either of these help or do I need to find more sites/publications like the first two I mentioned?

- I have replied with a full comment on the draft itself. Fiddle Faddle 08:27, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Timtrent:Thank you for the super helpful response. What I should do to improve the article is becoming more clear to me. A couple follow-up question: is it generally considered a good idea to take the items out of the article which don't have clear secondary source attribution yet out and just start out with a shorter article until secondary sources can be found for all the facts asserted? Also, while the Fez Museum site is indeed an individual hobbyist, the Phoenix Masonry site, while rather amateurish in its web design, is actually an entire organization (see http://www.phoenixmasonry.org/by-laws_of_phoenixmasonry.htm), though I do not think it would pass muster as being notable in and of itself. I also note that it is used as a source in various other articles such as Freemasonry, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, or Imperial Order of Muscovites. In light of this, do you think it could be kept or should I remove it and all material sourced from it? Greenzeiger (talk) 17:01, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
- I would keep the official site as a reference for simple facts, using WP:PRIMARY as a rationale. The wordpress site needs to go, in my view. The challenge you have is to decide what are facts that are unlikely to be challenged. These may be stated with some confidence almost without need of referencing (referencing is ideal though). Those susceptible to challenge require references.
- I'm not sure how helpful that has been. Others may wish to weigh in here. I have been known to be mistaken!! Fiddle Faddle 17:35, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of World primary energy production is not justified. It does not duplicate Energy development. I know this article. It does not list countries producing most of primary energy, divided into fossil, nuclear and renewable. Is it not interesting to see that India is a big energy producer, 36% renewable? Energy development does not provide this fact. Rwbest (talk) 10:12, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi
We, from the Team of Sandeep Maheshwari have been trying to create the Wikipedia page on the name of Sandeep Maheshwari. We have submitted it nearly 4 times, the last one with proper references and citations. However, it was declined and the reason provided was that it does not show subject's notability. Kindly let us know how to proceed.

The article I recently submitted as Articles for Creation has been declined because the references do not adequately support the subject's notability. I am looking for advice and guidance as to how I can improve the referencing and whether it is a case of more references being added or whether it is the quality of the current references that aren't up to standard. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

JRLisk (talk) 16:15, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- @JRLisk: I've set the first one for you as an example. Basically in the cite template, between the "|url=whatever" and "|website=whatever" parameters, put a "|title=This is the Title of the Work" parameter. To have any chance of advancing, the draft will need sources independent of Friedhoff. Companies that employ him are not arms-length from him. Worldbruce (talk) 07:57, 24 September 2015 (UTC)

- Please see WP:Donating copyright material, but recognise that material written for a promotional website will not be suitable for Wikipedia (0.95 probability). Better by far, if the organisation passed WP:CORP to wait for someone else to write about it, or to write totally flat text backed by references.
- We delete apparent copyright violations to protect the copyright owner. While you will find this frustrating you will appreciate it when you consider why we do that. Fiddle Faddle 21:00, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

I want to completely understand the process that just happened with this article.
First it was rejected for not having references. And then it was rejected because some of the references were violating policy.
Were these the ones that refer to commercial websites like Amazon, AllMusic, YouTube??
How can I improve references? What type of preferences would make a difference?

- Draft:Smartmouth Brewing Company ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Hello! I'm not sure how to better this article. Other brewery articles I've researched (ones in California) used the criteria "has it won an award at the Great American Beer Festival?" as criteria for making it notable. Many editors agreed upon those criteria. This business has won several. When I added more references to show notability, it was marked as being like an advertisement. What's a good way to reword the article to make it less "advertise-like" and still present enough information to be notable? Thanks! Eric (talk) 22:28, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
Eric (talk) 22:28, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- @RecknEric: Wikipedia's notability guideline for companies is WP:CORP. The essay WP:Breweries contains advice about notability in the context of breweries, but is not a formal guideline. Neither says "won an award at the Great American Beer Festival" is a criterion for notability. Without seeing the articles and discussions in question I can't comment on the award win as a rule of thumb. If you study examples, be sure to use the best articles Wikipedia has. There are no good articles on individual California breweries, but the following brewery articles have been judged good: Boddingtons Brewery, John Smith's Brewery, Stones brewery, Webster's Brewery, and Worthington Brewery.
- The draft cites the company and the festival as the only sources for the win. If only the award giver and awardee write about an award, Wikipedia won't pay much attention to it. If independent sources cover the win - mainstream news organizations, All About Beer magazine, etc. - then that coverage will help establish that the subject meets WP:CORP.
- There are other problems with the draft's sources. forbes.com/sites is a blog, and yahoo.com/travel is not reliable. Neither should be cited as a source. The three independent sources are all local, and per WP:AUD at least one regional, national, or international source is required. Furthermore none of the three contain very deep coverage of the company - a couple asked-for-comment quotes here, a sentence or two there. Contrast the draft's sources with those of the good brewery articles. A draft needn't cite that many to be approved, but it must have a range of high quality sources at its core. Hope that helps. This is the 1st article draft I've submitted for movement into the article space. It is an important topic.
The initial Article language is quite introductory & concise. This is by design: since this is my very first Article submission, I'd like it moved into the Article space to see whether any experienced editors take an interest in it and begin proposing changes to flesh it out. Since the subject matter is of strong importance, I'm hopeful it's a strong entry point for learning to create & manage a well-done Article. --
Please advise whether the approach I'm taking is correct, acceptable, likely to be approved, etc.

Someone rejected the article due to lack of notability. The company is almost 10 years old and has been referenced in "multiple reliable" news articles as required. It is one of only a handful of companies helping foreigners who want to find internship/work in China and if you are a person in that category, you probably have heard of them or used their service. Can anyone provide more references or advice to make it "notable"? Thanks. Blackwhiteyellowred17 (talk) 14:12, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
- Please only work on one Draft of the same article. I have only examined the first page listed above.
- The Draft lists four apparently independent reliable sources which discuss the topic of internships in China for students over the age of 18 and young professionals. Of these four, I can only access two from here. Of these two, neither of them mention Gi2C Group at all. Because they do not mention Gi2C Group at all, they do not have significant coverage of Gi2C Group, and therefore cannot help in proving its notability by Wikipedia's standards. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 08:54, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
- I have edited the article to reflect the full name of Gi2C which is what the 2 articles mention. Would you say it's ok now? Blackwhiteyellowred17 (talk) 08:14, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi, I translated a stub about a , but the draft was declined for lack of notability, yet it is considered notable enough to be included in the German wikipedia. It also has more references than the article on fuet (and about the same amount of information), yet fuet is considered notable enough and has not been put up for deletion. I would appreciate some help to make this article pass inspection.
A different question (and hopefully German speakers could help me here) is what the title of the article should be. I've come across various spellings - kaminwurz (About 7,530 results in Google), kaminwurzel (About 650 results), kaminwurzen (About 39,600 results), kaminwurz'n (About 966 results) - and I've no idea which one to use as the title of the article.
93.106.88.67 (talk) 21:04, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
- Hi. First, the different wikipedias have different standards of notability. Second, just because there are other articles which may or may not be notable is a other stuff exists argument, which usually isn't a good standard to base acceptance/declination/deletion on. The sausage exists, no doubt about it. But is it notable? My guess is it is. It certainly looks delicious, and I wish I had one right now. You're right, there are plenty of articles on the List of sausages which aren't even as well referenced as this one. Resubmit it, and see if another editor feels differently. Problem: I'm writing an article about an already deceased author who lived, more or less in a seclusion (Jesuit community). He questioned many of the do's and more particularly the don'ts about the Order of Jesus Christ (the Jesuit Order). As of that he was expelled. He left a list of books. Unfortunately there's little or nothing known of him. After he left the Order, the author married and had some off-spring of which one is still alive. All publishers he worked with do not exist anymore. This all makes it nearly impossible for me to put notable information inside the article. Still, the works of the author are too much worth to ignore, especially now his most important work has become popular again. What to do now?
- The only answer is to research and to hope. Wikipedia cannot be the repository of all the world's knowledge, only of that verified or verifiable in reliable sources. This potentially important gentleman may slip through the cracks. Fiddle Faddle 17:38, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

Hello,
I believe I have edited the submission to better adhere to Wikipedia standards. However, I am having some difficulty with the "Reliable Sources" criteria. There aren't any neutral 3rd party sources that have reported on the topic of F5 Professional Certification. It's a fairly new program in the world of IT/Professional certification. I have not been able to find any news articles or published sources that deal with this topic. The only information available thus far has been from the F5 website and blog posts from current participants in the program.
Is it possible to have an entry that only references primary sources?
The F5 Professional Certification entry is modeled after these related Wikipedia articles: Network administrator Cisco Certifications CWNA Red Hat
Also, I want to thank the Wikipedia community and the editors that have commented or flagged this post so far. I appreciate the time, energy and care demonstrated by the individual editors, writers and participants.
Thank you for your help.
- If what you say is correct, specifically "There aren't any neutral 3rd party sources that have reported on the topic of F5 Professional Certification", then Wikipedia does not yet need an article about F5 Professional Certification. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 08:46, 26 September 2015 (UTC)

The article I wrote was declined on the grounds of it not being notable. I have taken aboard the feedback and amended the article. Please review and let me know your thoughts, and what needs to be added to make it in compliance.
However, an article for the predecessor firm already exists: Herbert Geer, so it would make sense to create a new page for the merged firm. Many other Australian commercial law firms have pages, such as: Gilbert + Tobin, Clayton Utz, Minter Ellison, Corrs Chambers Westgarth and, Mills Oakley, just to name a few. Because of this precedence of similar firms etc., I think there's good grounds to consider that the article is notable.
Please let me know what to do to bring it into compliance.

- You cannot. Wikipedia requires substantial references. For a living person we have a high standard of referencing. Every substantive fact you assert, especially one that is susceptible to potential challenge, requires a citation with a reference that is about them, and is independent of them, and is in WP:RS, and is significant coverage. Please also see WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources and WP:SELFPUB which has clear limitations on self published sources. Finally, from my understanding of the recent comments, more 3rd party verification is need and as we not been active on social media that should be resolved after our press release on the week of 5th Oct 2015. But current the links/references is all we have to my knowledge.

I am finding the language confusing to cite links in footnotes/references. Trying to get them right format is an exhausting process. I have hard copy sources as proof of all footnotes/references, but if they are not available online, then what? Creating a Wikipedia page appears to be for people with computer science knowledge.... been on it for some 7 hours today and not getting anywhere fast. Over to you!
- It is possible, though unlikely, that someone will adopt this draft. Generally, if you want it here then you need to work on it yourself. Help is available, but in answer to specific questions. Please ask with precision for the help you need. You seem to be doing ok so far. Fiddle Faddle 09:19, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Calais1984 - As Timtrent said, it is unlikely someone will adopt the article. Wikipedia takes patience, and some computer skill, but not a lot. Don't be afraid to ask questions. And then wait for a response. Wikipedia editors are all volunteers, so it can take a day or two before someone gets back to you. That's where the patience comes in. I've formatted the first two citations in your draft, to give you an example of how to do it. They are both web citations. If there is a book citation, you'd change the "cite web" to "cite book"; a newspaper - "cite news", etc. That's where you can get information from WP:CIT. If you do cite a book or newspaper, remember to include page numbers, you do that by adding | page=xx. Books also require some other information, but you can find that on the link I gave above. Hope this helps. Onel5969 TT me 12:28, 27 September 2015 (UTC)

I don't understand the term' 'not reliable sources'. I put 5 or 6 published titles at the bottom. As the article deals with an Indian Tradition, most of them are Indian publications, so this is unavoidable. I will go back to the sand box and add numbers in the text to relate to these titles and add in another reference document: a charter, that can be found on a website and deals with the Westernisation of the tradition. 2.96.122.7 (talk) 11:45, 27 September 2015 (UTC)

Dear experienced helper,
how can I get my article submitted? Articles on this person exist in Russian and German, I just translated the most of the information from there. I know the artist personally so that information in the article is correct, since he examined it himself. There are international reviews on his performances which approve the notability of the subject and which I included in the article. Since it is a person, which is alive and active as an artist, there are not really many books on his life and arts. Please assist me or submitt the article.
Thank you, best regards

- different WPs have different requirements for sourcing. The ruWP article, for example, would not be acceptable here. Even the deWP, whose content is normally is of a higher standard than the enWP, is briefer in referencing than is customary here. But the material is close enough, and the references support the facts of his career. I've accepted it, though be aware that you will need formal references to reviews to substantiate any claims of excellence. DGG ( talk ) 21:00, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

- It is not the admins who have pushed your draft back to you, it is ordinary editors, people like you and me. - First, nobody here can guarantee that an article will not be deleted. The basis for accepting is merely that it has a reasonable chance of passing WP:AFD. Decisions there are made by the community, not an individual.
- Second, about the article: the career section is over-personal: reduce it to objective material, and avoid all adjectives of praise. Most important, the section on the That's My Bae Twerk It Dance does not show notability because we have no idea whether this is a notable contest in the first place--this would need to be shown by our having an article on it. The list of films does not show notability , because none of them are major roles. Frankly, I suggest waiting until he is further along in his career. DGG ( talk ) 20:30, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

- I am not at all sure what has taken place here. I am guessing that you have placed a very sad personal history here as an article or a draft, and that it has been deleted. The problem, if I am correct, is that Wikipedia is not the place for personal reflections, however important they are, unless they have references. We require references from significant coverage about the topic of the article, and independent of it, and in WP:RS please. See WP:42. Please also see WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources and WP:SELFPUB which has clear limitations on self published sources.
- I am sure you may view this as harsh, perhaps simply odd. But Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia and cannot promote your cause, however good and just that cause may be. It is a passive beast and can only record what others have reported (in those references).
- I'm sorry that this is probably not what you hoped to hear, and I am making assumptions based on what you have told us. There are sites online where you might record this information, but I am unable to advise on the best route for you. Fiddle Faddle 06:49, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

Frankzappatwin (talk) 11:38, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Frankzappatwin: Keeping AllMusic and adding the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were good moves. Sandcastle V.I., however, is self-published, and discogs is user-generated. Neither should be used as a source, see WP:USERGENERATED. The album's claim of notability rests on charting, so Billboard would be a logical source to seek out. One technical note: citations mustn't be placed inside section headers, so move the one for the track listings into the body of that section. Featured album articles sometimes handle this by adding a sentence before or after the track listing table, as in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Highway 61 Revisited. - The article is a promotional bio. He might be notable, but the way it is written doesn't show it. Don't refer to him by his first name. Use "Weed" or "he" The other interests section should be renamed "Honours" and trimmed down to significant ones, each of which needs a third party source. The "Speaking at events" paragraph describes items without encyclopedic significance. Remove it. Claims for his company should be removed: the Adweek articles is not a reliable enough source to prove he is primarily responsible. DGG ( talk ) 20:24, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi, First of all, thank you for your help in the creation of my article "Water Art". Sam Sailor did everything well but changed the name of the article from "Anders Tinsbo´s sculpture near the Round Tower" into "Water Art" which is actually not the name of the sculpture. This sculpture don't have any official title. It is a Water Art sculpture meaning that it is a works of art including water. We could maybe rename the article "Water Art sculpture close to the Round Tower". What do you think ? Thank you!

Hi My article was rejected for the following reasons: This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability—see the guidelines on the notability of people and the golden rule. Please improve the submission's referencing, so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia.
So my questions are" 1. What's the issues with the references I have? I quoted newspaper articles, journals, university pages, and tv appearances, not blog posts. 2. Do I need to have references for each book she wrote? 3. Are there just not enough references, or is this person not considered notable enough. In other words, if I add 5 more references that list her as a parenting expert and references for each of her books and novels will that suffice, or will it still be declined afterwards because she is not "notable"? 4. This author is mentioned on the Grub Street, Inc. page, but her name is incorrectly linked to an actress, Lynne Griffin, with the same name. Upon perusing this page, there are many other others listed with their own pages with far fewer sources and much less information, such as Randy Susan Meyers and Jon Papernick, among others. Why are these novelist considered notable enough but this author is not?
Thank you for your help! Goldencam (talk) 16:36, 28 September 2015 (UTC) Goldencam (talk) 16:36, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Goldencam:
- The main issue with the draft's sources is lack of independence from the subject. Set aside the writings of Griffin. Set aside bio-blurbs from publishers, and other employers, which are not arms-length. Set aside any primary sources, such as interviews which are mainly Griffin talking about Griffin. That doesn't leave much, mainly a review in the Telegram & Gazette, which some editors will discount because it's in a local paper and not by a major reviewer.
- A list of an author's work does not need references (except in rare cases such as lost works, which because they're lost cannot be consulted to verify authorship).
- Based on the cited sources, Griffin is not notable and does not appear to be a suitable subject for an encyclopedia article. Whether five more references would change the picture would of course depend on the references. It would be great if they were reviews of her work in Publishers Weekly, The New York Times, The New York Review of Books, etc.
- Thanks for pointing out the incorrect link on Grub Street, Inc., it has been fixed. It is natural to reason from example, but it's safer to go by official policies and guidelines. The essay Wikipedia:Other stuff exists may help make it clear why that is so. Wikipedia is forever a work in progress that contains both high-quality and low-quality content. This is a beginning draft, I was hoping it would turn into something like S5 0014+81 wikipedia article where it would start off as a few lines and then turn into a better page by the end. The article about S5 0014+81 mentions a 40 billion mass black hole having a Schwarzchild radius of "47 times the distance from the Sun to Pluto". The H1821+643 article also mentions the same thing except the difference is 28 times between the Sun and Pluto. The mass of SDSS J102325.31+514251.0 comes from a polish news article about black holes and there are references about said object being a black hole of 33.1 billion solar masses in a separate wikipedia article mentioning the most massive blackholes. Thus giving an assumed Schwardzchild radius of over 25 times the distance between the Sun and Pluto with it being under 30 times the distance.

Here's the pages that I can find on Wikipedia in back files or something. I have continued to publish and receive an extensive worldwide recognition of my writing but am still not in Wikipedia because of this opposition:
At the time the “Frederick Glaysher” article on Wikipedia was under debate in 2008, Wjhonson observed,
"Their only purpose is to attack Glaysher. This del entry should be voided on that basis solely...." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Log/2008_April_4#Frederick_Glaysher
"The attacks imho are religion-based as this person is a vocal critic of certain Baha'i institutions. There is no evidence that his works are vanity-press publications. The article is fairly new and deserves new eyes to expand it, instead of this pressure by a vested group or a few individuals to suppress it. - You are at an inappropriate forum. We deal with draft articles and their acceptance. We do not move questions to the correct forum, preferring to leave that to the questioner
- Please understand that you have no automatic right to a page on Wikipedia about you. If you pass WP:BIO then it is likely in the fullness of time that a page may be created.
- You should ask for advice quietly and politely at WP:Teahouse where you may ask questions of this nature and receive well considered replies. I suggest to you very strongly that you eschew terms such as 'religious fanatic', these are terms that are likely to get your question sidelined.
- Do you pass WP:BIO? Are there independent references about you? For a living person we have a high standard of referencing. Every substantive fact you assert, especially one that is susceptible to potential challenge, requires a citation with a reference that is about them, and is independent of them, and is in WP:RS, and is significant coverage.
