Can this drawing of Madame Roland - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madame_Roland#/media/File:Dame_Roland_b,_cropped.jpg. -
seen here in the info box on Madame Roland's page, replace the slightly different and crooked (not straight and with too many words) image of Madame Roland seen on Susannah Taylor's page please? It is FAR superior, but please make the image smaller than the drawing of the page's subject - Sussanah Taylor. Thanks 175.38.42.62 (talk) 01:51, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- They are two different people. Taylor just had an unusual nickname. I see no need for a picture of Roland to be included in Taylor's biography. I will remove it. Cullen328 (talk) 01:58, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

Citation
What exactly is a citation and how does it work, and does it require a precise article on the subject or topic or can it be a blog which has a proper information, and what is a reliable source. Jfebin1998 (talk) 05:53, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Jfebin1998, today's featured article is Handel's lost Hamburg operas. It has citations. If you click on them you can see how they work. A reference need not be an article that's primarily about the subject -- it may instead be primarily about a different subject but say something of interest about "your" subject and be referred to for this information. Other than for very limited purposes, it may not be a blog. For the meaning of "reliable source", please read and digest WP:RS. -- Hoary (talk) 06:36, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

Is there a way to display Wikipedia in dark mode on your computer? (Mac or PC) The Wikipedia app can do it on your phone, but browsers on your phone don't seem to be able to either.

Is there a place for Israel-Palestine conflict help?
I've recently seen a new article and some edits on Israel-Palestine related issues that I'd view as extremely contentious. I really don't want to start editing heavily in that space - if I start reverting or requesting deletion, I know I'll be down a rabbit hole for days (I don't think I'm allowed to either, I don't know what the conditions are). Is there a neutral noticeboard or project where I can flag something I saw, where it will get attention from people with varied viewpoints? Samuelshraga (talk) 10:23, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Concerning conditions—while users are encouraged to be vigilant concerning potential conflicts of interest they may have, there are no relevant restrictions on what a user may or may not edit or what biases a user may or may not have, as long as they are not reflected in their editing and they remain civil towards others. The relevant subject is presently designated a contentious topic, so ensure you know what that entails.
Other than that...you're being a tad imprecise here. If you want a place to discuss specific concerns, the best place is usually the article talk page. There is also the neutral point of view noticeboard, though posting on it should usually be accompanied by a talk page discussion. If there is a pattern of obviously uncivil or otherwise abusive behavior from specific users, WP:AN/I is the place to report that.
Cheers! — Remsense诉 11:47, 17 January 2024 (UTC) - @Samuelshraga welcome to Teahouse! Editing in Israel/Palestine is not only emotionally challenging but there are many more rules and guidelines. One of them is that only editors with WP:ECP status (500 edits/30 days of activity) can edit. I would recommend you spend your time productively learning about other areas of Wikipedia first. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 14:50, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Shushugah, I assume that the rule about ECP status means that editors without ECP status should not post about Israel/Palestine on noticeboards like ANI or NPOV, am I correct? I have read Template:Welcome-arbpia and am still uncertain. TSventon (talk) 15:03, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- This editing restriction primarily applies to Article mainspace, and the guidelines explicitly allow newer editors to make edit requests on the talk page. I would derive from that, ANI/other non Main namespaces would be permitted, but generally discouraged. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 15:26, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

Cant update Infobox
Hello, I just put out a big update on the California's 35th State Assembly district as it needed to be updated as their was a redistricting and an election, I figured everything else out but I cant update the infobox. I wanted to update the population and change it from D-Paso Robles to D-Bakersfield as well. LuNaCy (talk) 15:45, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- @LuNaCy: I made the Bakersfield change with this edit. The population (and its various breakdowns) should be directly editable in the article's infobox, as long as you can source the figures. Why have you been unable to update the population? Deor (talk) 22:59, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Cancelling Amir Tsarfati
I just read about Wikipedia is cancelling Amir Tsarfati. I can’t believe that this is serious? I just typed in adolph hitler, and I found out everything about him, even his book mein kampf!!?? I can’t believe that a serious and respectable site as Wikipedia really are letting this happen, why cancel Amir Tsarfati? I can find and read info and find info on the worst people and their biography and books on your site? Then I will ask you, how in the world can you then cancel mr. Amir Tsarfati? I hope and believe you can see that what you are doing here raises questions about your decision in this case. I really hope you cancel your cancellation of mr. Amir Tsarfati before this goes to far. This has nothing to do with any judgment on the subject - it is because there are not enough independent reliable sources that talk about the subject, to base an article on. References
Unfortunately I think I made a mistake when editing, as this is the first and last time I am editing references. ; 2. none of the other edits mention references or citations in the edit summaries; 3. nothing has been altered in the (unformatted) references throughout the article except for markup syntax and punctuation. ? Folly Mox (talk) 16:39, 17 January 2024 (UTC)- @Folly Mox: yes, that's right, the punctuation; seeing many other pages that always have the same punctuation (different from the one I inserted), however much neater the punctuation I inserted was, perhaps it's better to restore the old version of the references, the one before my edits (without deleting all my edits). JackkBrown (talk) 17:03, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, I see what you mean. Manually formatted citations don't have to follow the same punctuation style as the main CS1 templates, per WP:CITEVAR. Since the references still have consistent formatting within their own articles after your edits, it's not necessary to change them again, and if they were to be changed, it would probably be to add citation templates rather than fiddle with the manual formatting. Help on Archiving Web Pages with See More Button
Hi,
I'm currently looking for ways how to archive some web pages with a "read more/see more" button. For example, I tried to archive the whole article, but the website has "Baca Artikel Penuh" (Read full article) button that hides the remaining part of the article until you click on it.
I tried Archive.is, GhostArchive, and WebArchive. While all three do archived the same page, but the remaining half of the article behind the "Baca Artikel Penuh" isn't visible. Any suggestions on how I can archive the text article in its entirety? Thank you. SyFuelIgniteBurned 03:21, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

Notability rules on Wikipedia
misplaced policy debate
|
---|
Hello, before I get started, I know these rules will never be removed. But my question is, why? If Wikipedia is the center of information for people on the internet, why do they not let smaller and less notable articles be allowed? They are restricting information on people just because they are not notable enough. I made an article on a local politician named Chris Del Borrello, and it keeps getting taken down because he is not notable enough. What if somebody wanted to learn more info on him who was in his district? If Wikipedia was truly a center of information and user-friendly, there should not be a notability requirement. All kinds of articles should be allowed, as long as they are good articles. Antny08 (talk) 13:31, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

My two redirect pages
Hi Team,
With new information about a live-action Teasing Master Takagi-san film, I am having trouble with my two redirect pages: Teasing Master Takagi-san (2022 film) and Teasing Master Takagi-san (film).
I initially created Teasing Master Takagi-san (2022 film) redirect page (for the anime film) after initial news of the series having a live-action film. But I move that redirect page to Teasing Master Takagi-san (film) after new info that the live-action is for television.
Now that live-action film is also confirmed alongside the live-action television, with the film's release date set to May 2024, I am planning to create Teasing Master Takagi-san (2024 film). However, I am stuck on what to do with Teasing Master Takagi-san (film).
What can I do to fix this? Can I create a redirect page for 2024 film and keep the other two as it is OR delete the two redirect pages and start over?
Any tips will be appreciated. Thank you so much! Centcom08 (talk) 15:35, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Centcom08: Hi there! I suggest creating the 2024 film article first, and then changing Teasing Master Takagi-san (film) to a disambiguation page with links to each film. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:19, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- @GoingBatty: That is a good suggestion! I'll create an article for the 2024 film once new info and interviews start to come in. Thank you so much! Centcom08 (talk) 16:25, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
Best practice in refactoring level-2 headers on talk pages
Occasionally, new editors may copy-paste sections of article content onto talk pages that include various headers, including level-2 headers (example, the two "Composition" level-2 headers should be part of the edit-request thread), which interfere with the Discussion Tools and the table of contents. Is there a preferred way in refactoring these headers in line with WP:OTHERSCOMMENTS (nowiki tags, collapsing, deleting, etc.), or should these threads be left alone? Liu1126 (talk) 15:53, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- Liu1126 in the example you gave the easiest solution was to change the level-2 headers to level-3 headers and the editor who answered the request did so. TSventon (talk) 19:25, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

- (edit conflict) @JackkBrown: Instead of deleting a reference, you can try finding an archived version that isn't dangerous. For example, copy the URL and paste it into the Wayback Machine and you'll get this archive-url, which you can add into the reference with
|archive-url=
and|archive-date=
parameters. You can also add|url-status=unfit
to the reference to hide the link to the dangerous URL. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:28, 18 January 2024 (UTC) - As a followup, I was checking this reference to see whether it was legitimately a dangerous site or just an unencrypted connection, and got a browser warning I had never seen before, so I retrieved the archive and marked the original URL as unfit. Update link on page
I'd like to update the "Mercury Studios" link on the American Symphony page to direct to the proper company website...right now the link is directed to "Mercury Records" which is not the correct page. Emcpherson0 (talk) 17:46, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

- @Emcpherson0: So it's about the infobox in American Symphony (film) which links "Mercury Studios" to Mercury Records. We don't link infobox fields to external websites. Links go to Wikipedia articles but Mercury Studios doesn't have its own article. We often link to a related article instead. Mercury Records has a brief mention of Mercury Studios and they have the same owner Universal Music Group. Eagle Rock Entertainment says "In 2020, Universal Music established Mercury Studios which absorbed Eagle Rock Entertainment." Would Universal Music Group, Mercury Records, Eagle Rock Entertainment or a fourth Wikipedia article be the best target for "Mercury Studios"? I don't know. Is Mercury Studios basically a new name of Eagle Rock Entertainment? If so then that should probably be the target. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:37, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

Page Deleted - How to restore or recreate?
The page about me - "john jones (record producer)"- was deleted in 2017-18 after I edited it. The page was deleted for me not being notable according to this notice - "page does not exist" from January 2018 - John Jones (record producer)
How can the page be restored? Because it is about me, do I need to hire someone to make a new page?
Thank you, John Jones (JJ) Johnibjones (talk) 17:57, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- If it is written by yourself and is about yourself, various red flags start to appear, including WP:COI and WP:ABOUTME. Wikipedia is not designed to do these things, and you should look at having a profile on Facebook or LinkedIn rather than trying to do it here.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 18:48, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for responding. My page started in 2001 and was not written by me. I was one of the first, if not the first record producers on wikipedia. I am a Grammy awarded music producer, songwriter and recording artist.
- I need advice as how to get the page back. Not having my page on wikipedia is destroying my business since the music services and press use wikipedia to search for music and record producers using it. The person who deleted my account was in error and gave me no opportunity to remove my edits! Johnibjones (talk) 19:03, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- Winning a Grammy award might be a good indicator that you're notable by Wikipedia's special definition of the term, @Johnibjones, but it would need to be an award you specifically won, not something awarded to - for instance - a studio album you were one of many producers on (Falling into You?).
- The main thing here is to find reliable, independent secondary sources with significant coverage of you. You, specifically. And they must be independent - not interviews; not biographies published by you or an employer. Reading WP:42 might be of help (and also perhaps An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing). 57.140.16.1 (talk) 19:16, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- The fact that most of the page's data went up in 2002 had a lot to do with the references not being included. At the time the page was deleted I was trying to add references. Johnibjones (talk) 19:37, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Johnibjones We would highly discourage getting involved in paid editing firms: most are scams, and most Wikipedia editors heavily disapprove of them as it goes against the entire ethos of Wikipedia.
- If you are genuinely notable then a volunteer, at some point, will write an article about you. Qcne (talk) 18:57, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

- That had just one reference. I can understand why it was deleted lmao — Python Drink (talk) 22:28, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- The deleted article did not meet Wikipedia's current standards for establishing notability. But Wikipedia still has a category "Albums produced by John Jones (record producer)". I agree with what Qcne wrote above, and suspect that some volunteer who knows the field might be willing to create a new article. Maproom (talk) 19:30, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the link. I see that it only has 3 albums listed. Am I allowed to add the other 50?
- But seriously, my biggest problem is my name. Before 2018, Google and other search engines found me by my wiki page and domain name. Now they can't find me and only find people with different spellings! Johnibjones (talk) 19:41, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- Johnbjones I don't mean to sound cruel- but Wikipedia is not concerned with search results or "knowledge panels". The presence of a Wikipedia article is usually only one possible input. 331dot (talk) 20:07, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Johnibjones: I searched Google for "John Jones record producer" and found lots of information about you. Category:Albums produced by John Jones (record producer) now has
57 albums listed. The category is added to the article about the album, so if Wikipedia doesn't have an article about the album (e.g. Alan Frew's Hold On), the category won't show the album. GoingBatty (talk) 20:40, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
List of websites that are copy-paste version of Wikipedia
Hi everyone,
As title says, I would like to ask if someone has a list of websites that are literally copy-paste version of Wikipedia. The reason why I am asking is because currently there is 1lib1ref going on at Serbian version of Wikipedia and we have blocked some domains to be used as reference. One of them was wikiwand.com which is literally copy-paste version of Wikipedia. Does someone have those sites so I can put them in the block list so they cannot be used as a source for anything ?
Thanks for any help.
Cheers,

How to change my font size
So I edit exclusively on mobile for the record. Thus began a year ago. My Wikipedia font size would spontaneously change (not while I'm viewing it though). Like I'd use Wikipedia today and it was just ok as my browser is set to. All of a sudden, it's tiny as fuck or gigantic the next day. I thought this was my browser so I did all I could from updating to clearing caches and reinstalling to even testing Wikipedia on a different browser. It's clear the problem is from Wikipedia itself, since other sites aren't affected. Please, how do I fix this? The current font size is insanely large and ugly and really discouraging me from reading and editing Wikipedia. — Python Drink (talk) 22:23, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Python Drink: Hi there! What device and browser are you using? Playing around with the Safari browser on my iPhone, I see I can change the zoom for one page without it affecting another site. GoingBatty (talk) 23:05, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- And what font size do you have at Special:MobileOptions? PrimeHunter (talk) 23:13, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- @PrimeHunter and GoingBatty: my browser is Google Chrome 120.0.6099.230. Device is Android 10; TECNO KC8. As for the mobile Wikipedia server-side font size, it's regular; I have never changed it. And I have looked through every setting on mobile Chrome; there's no way to set font size for a specific site except perhaps in an experimental flag. (Now you mentioned it, it sounds cool) — Python Drink (talk) 20:07, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Python Drink: I don't have an Android device. Does https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/96810 help? PrimeHunter (talk) 20:24, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, it does help! Although, I already discovered that when I looked through my settings again. Can't believe I didn't notice that. Which makes me now think that Wikipedia wasn't actually the problem: perhaps for whatever reason, Chrome was spontaneously changing the font size specifically for Wikipedia. Anyway, my problem's now solved. Thanks a lot, you too, for your help. — Python Drink (talk) 20:56, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

specific spelling of antisemitism
which spelling of antisemitism is used on the wiki regarding antisemitism? antisemitism or anti-Semitism? Thanks, Megabits000 (talk) 23:29, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- The article "Antisemitism" uses "antisemitism"; and for this reason I'd use that. -- Hoary (talk) 23:56, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Megabits000: Don't forget anti-semitism. It's a WP:ENGVAR issue.
- Cambridge lists all three;
- dictionary.com lists antisemitic with anti-Semitic as an alternative spelling;
- Collins lists anti-Semitic with antisemitic as an alternative;
- Merriam-Webster lists only anti-Semitic;
- Oxford lists only anti-Semitic.
- Bazza (talk) 11:19, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- The article explains why it uses the spelling "antisemitism" in a footnote. Some authoritative source has recommended the spelling "antisemitism" as "anti-Semitism" may convey the idea that "Semitism" is some doctrine being opposed. Makes some sense to me. — Python Drink (talk) 20:10, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

Indenture issue at AFD
There seems to be an issue with indenture at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Log/2024_January_15#Source_table_of_these_six_sources. Is there a simple way to fix this? If not, at what venue should this be presented? --Jax 0677 (talk) 00:05, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Jax 0677: I believe it's fixed now – I assume you're referring to indentation, not indenture. Reducing the heading levels to be at least as low as their parent headers fixes the issue in this case. Tollens (talk) 00:14, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

Page views for a single article from a particular country?
Hello,

- I don't think so, because the Pageviews analysis tool by MusikAnimal does not list this as one of the features.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 10:07, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- As far as I know this is not possible. There's a tool to see the pageviews of Electric car and its equivalent pages across all languages (here), where you can see that en.wiki accounts for about 1/4 of the pageviews across the 76 wikis which have an article, and the tr.wiki article got less than 10% of the number of views the en.wiki article did, but as far as I can work out there's no way to break down the en.wiki article's pageviews except for between desktop, mobile browser, and app views.
- You can see how many pageviews en.wiki in general got from any particular country in a specific month here, but Turkey seems to be one of the countries excluded from the dataset "for privacy reasons". Caeciliusinhorto-public (talk) 10:15, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

Photo copyright
I have added a whole new 'personal life' section to a page (created by someone else) about a relative of mine, who was a cricketer of note in the early 1920s. I have a few selected photos (family heirlooms) that I believe would be helpful to readers: a professional portrait photo dated 1917 (in soldier's uniform), another dated 1920 (in cricketing clothes), one copyright "Sports Pictures", and one that I suspect was taken for Essex County Cricket Club in 1921. None was taken by me (they are all more than 100 years old!); but I very much doubt whether the original copyright holders could be traced now or even still exist. Are they now out of copyright by virtue of their age? Or do they become my copyright if I photograph the photographs before uploading them? Or will they remain for ever unusable? I'd be grateful for some guidance. Gangnam Woodford (talk) 16:27, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Gangnam Woodford, there's one problem with your addition - you didn't cite any sources. That's understandable, since most of the rest of the article doesn't cite any sources either, but this is actually an issue (and I've added a maintenance tag about it). Where did you get the information about his personal life? Has it been published somewhere or are you just drawing on family lore? 57.140.16.1 (talk) 17:00, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- I wholly respect the point about source citations: I use them extensively in the historical narratives I write. I just wondered whether, as I actually knew the person in question (he was my great-uncle; he gave me tickets to Lords; I visited his house; and I knew all his siblings), my personal acquaintance as a family member might make citations unnecessary. But I will willingly try to track down his official records. Gangnam Woodford (talk) 21:59, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Gangnam Woodford, in a way it makes citations more necessary, since you have something of a conflict of interest here. I highly recommend reading the page I linked, and you might want to consider making edit requests on the talk page rather than editing the article directly, since that's the recommended practice for folks who are connected in some very direct way to article subjects. 57.140.16.1 (talk) 23:11, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

- @Gangnam Woodford: No, copyright is not eternal. Duration varies by country. See List of countries' copyright lengths. You can almost certainly justify your specific examples under the UK's "author unknown" category, which is a 70-year expiry. But you must explicitly explain this for each upload. If you make a non-creative copy, you are not adding any creative elements and you have nothing to copyright. If you include an image of a photo in another work (e.g., a collage or an interpretation of some sort) then your work is a "derived work" in which you own the copyright, but the copyright of the original photo is not affected: if it was Public domain, your derived work is all yours, and if it was copyrighted, you must adhere to its copyright (e.g., by getting a license to use it from the copyright holder). -Arch dude (talk) 18:26, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

Neutral word/phrase for promiscuous
I'm currently working on the article for Hart Crane and the sentence In 1925, he briefly lived with Caroline Gordon and Allen Tate until they were unable to endure the disruptions caused by his promiscuous lifestyle
. None of the synonyms Google gives me seem any better and phrases like "heavily sexual" just feel clunky. Sincerely, Novo TapeMy Talk Page 19:27, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Novo Tape: What's wrong with promiscuous? OED defines it as undiscriminating in sexual relations. If that was he was, then it's the right word. Bazza (talk) 19:57, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- I think the bigger issue here might be that the source doesn't quite support Crane's promiscuity as being the cause of the end of that living arrangement. Trying to eliminate a copyright problem
The article Ethiopian Manifesto was flagged for copyright violation. I have rewritten the section in question. Please note that what I have newly written does not show up unless you enter edit mode. I'd like to know if the rewriting I did has solved the problem. deisenbe (talk) 18:25, 19 January 2024 (UTC) deisenbe (talk) 20:45, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Deisenbe:the copyvio template hides the material suspected of copyright problems. The template copyvio/bottom marks the end of the problematic content, but you have removed that in one of your edits so most of the content is still hidden. If you put back the copyvio/bottom template then material below that will show up. RudolfRed (talk) 21:21, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

When you continue to work on the article, you can change the incorrect external link in the "Text of the Manifesto" section to an appropriate reference. Thanks, and happy editing! - @Ailiana Ai Boxer and Model, uploading a photo is the least of your problems at the moment. You are putting inappropriately promotional, poorly sourced content on your user page, which is therefore being repeatedly deleted. Are you attempting to write an article about yourself? How do you create an article?
I want to write my own articles but like I cant figure out how to create a new article. Can somebody help me?? WhackoSacco47 (talk) 21:09, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- @WhackoSacco47, detailed instructions are at Help:Your first article. The very first and most important thing you should do is look for reliable sources covering the subject you want to write about. If you can find a few, then you should go ahead with writing an article based on the sources - this will save you a lot of time and headaches in the long run. 57.140.16.1 (talk) 21:14, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- WhackoSacco47 Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. Writing a new article is the most difficult task to attempt on Wikipedia, and diving right in without experience and knowledge can lead to frustration. I would suggest that you first gain experience by editing existing articles in areas that interest you- we have millions of articles that need help. Using the new user tutorial is also helpful. If you still want to create a new article now, you may use the article wizard after doing as the IP user states above. 331dot (talk) 21:16, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

- @WhackoSacco47, use the article wizard, as explained at the pages you've been linked to. 57.140.16.1 (talk) 21:26, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- If you simply want a blank page to mess around with, you could create User:WhackoSacco47/sandbox by simply clicking that link and publishing an edit. But keep in mind that you should use your sandbox to practice editing, not for stuff unrelated to Wikipedia. 57.140.16.1 (talk) 21:28, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

How would I go about citing a booklet for an album?
I was going to edit the Wikipedia article for Chisel and realized there was a detail that I added previously I wanted to cite. The only problem was that it was in the booklet for the 25th anniversary reissue of their album Set You Free. I was just wondering how I would correctly cite it. OurAfternoonMalady (talk) 01:18, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- See Template:Cite AV media notes. The instructions there include some examples. StarryGrandma (talk) 02:10, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
At the moment, the article has a 27000+ byte list detailing every winner of every competition type throughout every single year, which to me at least seems like too much detail. About a month ago I deleted the list, then was promptly reverted by a user with the same name as the company--who was then blocked for their username, only for another account to be created four hours later and redo the same edits.
I know that Wikipedia allows these companies to stay so long as they disclose their paid status (which, side note--why? They're only here to advertise their company, they have no interest in improving the encyclopedia, and does anyone seriously believe a PR manager will strive to give a fair and neutral description of their own products?...), but they haven't even disclosed that. If someone could handle that (and preferably trim the list and keep some eyes on the article as well), I would appreciate it. 2603:8001:4542:28FB:45C:3177:8F35:E638 (talk) 03:25, 20 January 2024 (UTC) (Send talk messages here instead)
- If throwaway accounts are repeatedly filling this with unsourced trivia, perhaps the article should be semi-protected. (This would, of course, prevent edits by "IPs" as well. You may wish to get a username and use it.) The entire article seems to rest on virtually no disinterested sources. Somebody knowing a lot more than I do (a low bar!) about DJing championships should consider the notability of the subject and viability of an article. -- Hoary (talk) 05:34, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- Where is the evidence of significant third-party sourcing necessary to establish notability? AndyTheGrump (talk) 06:33, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- I thought a bit about nominating it for deletion last month, but I ultimately didn't because I can't access the two books that are cited, meaning I'd have a hard time writing a rationale against them. A five-minute Google News search is pulling up mostly press releases, and a couple of articles which are local or which are about people in the competition but not strictly the competition itself--which isn't very encouraging. Then again, that wasn't a fully in-depth search and I obviously know no more about DJing championships than Hoary does (though it does strike me as a bit of a... niche... field...).
- If you all think semi-protecting the article is the way to go, so be it, but given the company now has a Wikipedia account I doubt that'll exactly stop much. 2603:8001:4542:28FB:45C:3177:8F35:E638 (talk) 08:24, 20 January 2024 (UTC) (Send talk messages here instead)

- Sayeed2k, I have just checked Special:NewPagesFeed and the page has not yet been reviewed. Pages are not reviewed in any particular order. TSventon (talk) 04:06, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- Sayeed2k, to expand on Tsventon's answer: a new Wikipedia article is usually blocked from web crawlers (which index items for Google, Bing etc.) until either the New pages patrol has reviewed it or 90 days have elapsed. Once it has been reviewed and passed (or after 90 days) it is 'exposed' to the crawlers, which will take a little time (minutes to days?) to find and index the article. {The poster formerly known as 81.87.230.195} 176.24.47.60 (talk) 16:17, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
Want to request English translation for Russian page.
I want to translate this page to English:
Are there tools/users that can help with this? Sorry if this information can be found somewhere else, please direct me if there is. Thanks! 7austin (talk) 08:34, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hello. See WP:TRANSLATE for more information. I would point out that you will want to make sure that the topic meet the English Wikipedia notability guidelines- each language version has its own rules about what is acceptable content to them, and what is acceptable on the Russian Wikipedia is not necessarily acceptable here. 331dot (talk) 08:43, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- Given that the Russian article ru:Лукин, Сергей Иванович has only one citation, and that is to an encyclopaedia (a tertiary source), a translation of it would not, as it stands, satisfy English Wikipedia's requirements for sourcing. I recommend you treat it as a new article, which begins by finding reliable published independent sources that have significant coverage of Lukin. (These do not have to be online, or in English). If you can find some, then write an article based on what these say - you might want to refer to the Russian, but any information in the Russian article which is not in the sources you find may not go into the English article, so there's probably not much point. Probably the main use of the Russian article will be suggesting to you where to look for sources.
- If you cannot find several such sources, then I'm afraid that Lukin probably does not meet English Wikipedia's criteria for notability, and an article is not possible. ColinFine (talk) 12:21, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

- Please be aware of the autobiography policy. 331dot (talk) 08:41, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

- Writing a new article is one of the most difficult tasks to perform on Wikipedia- we usually recommend that new users first gain experience and knowledge by editing existing articles in areas that interest them, to get a feel for what is looked for in article content.
- IP users and new accounts cannot directly create articles; instead you may use the Article Wizard to create and submit a draft for review. Please first read Your First Article; you should also have gathered independent reliable sources with significant coverage of the topic you wish to write about, that can be summarized and establish that the topic is notable as Wikipedia defines the term. 331dot (talk) 10:26, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

If so, it should be removed from Wikidata (and a separate wikidata item created for the other Lizbeth Goodman, if appropriate).
