Edit war (noun): The result of two or more children online posing as wikipedians reverting each others work, and refusing to discuss the issue in an appropriate manner. Cool Wikipedians don't get into edit wars.
- Place new disputes at the bottom of the page.
- See Wikipedia:Wikipedia_maintenance#Disputes for instructions on maintaining this page.
Please keep an exe at this article which have been altered a lot. I don't know the anonymous editor, but it could be Leif Zeilon himself since he have requested an update of the Swedish article which where locked. // Sven Eriksson
- The anon contributions [1] look very biased. Don't know anything about the subject so I won't interfere, but this article needs watching, perhaps protecting. Kosebamse 09:41, 23 Sep 2003 (UTC)
dispute over German-Polish-Czech relations in border areas
- about Nico. He posted few revisionists sentences on the different talk pages. Examples: Even the migrants must be considered expellees, since their homeland was under occupation and Germans generally was discriminated and threatened in these areas. Source User talk:Nico I thought it would be correct to name them expellees, as that is what they name themselves. When they emigrated, Germany had not recognised the current borders. But do as you want. And in any event, what is wrong with considering East Prussia rightfully German, in accordance with international law (the Geneva protocols states: "It is illegal to permanently keep land militarily taken over and to expell and to replace the inhabitants") -- Nico 01:43, 14 Dec 2003 (UTC) Source Talk:Landsmannschaft Ostpreussen
He claims in Wikipedia, that some Polish or Russian areas, are rightfully German and are under occupation. Do we want to start again border disputes in Europe?? WolfgangPeters
- I actually don't see what is "revisionistic" with these sentences. I just stated a fact: The (West-)German government actually considered these areas "occupied" when the people we are talking about emigrated. And it's not just "revionists" who thinks East Prussia should return to Germany. There are even Russians who thinks that. And after all, this is also just my private opinions, not what I write in any articles. Nico 13:14, 15 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Based on, what you stated yourself, it seems to be irresponsible to give you the rights to edit articles in Wikipedia. Attempt to violate existing borders is a crime in every state. WolfgangPeters
- Pfff, don't make yourself ridiculous. It's a difference between being of the personal opinion that Russia should voluntarily and legally return the province to Germany, and "Attempt to violate existing borders". Nico 15:40, 15 Dec 2003 (UTC)
- When Russia has granted Chechnya, Tatarstan and Sacha full independence, gave Kurils to Japan, I knew that the time for giving Kaliningrad to anybody ;-) Did you forget how difficult is to deal with Russians?? Japanese had offered $80 bln inn exchange for 3 tiny islands without any meaning and Russia didn't get it. Germany have no money or intention to spend it on territorial acquisition, while Russians in thousands immigrate to exclave. It used to have 700 000 people, now they counted it at 1 200 000. Kaliningrad is the land of bright future. Seriously for your jokes. You make bad work for Germany and Germans. WolfgangPeters
- about Poznan
- Wik, Nico and perhaps others are quarreling about (if I understand it correctly) whether or not German names for Polish cities should be used. Please stop it, discuss it, or find some solution. And dont report this as vandalism, it's an edit war and a difference of opinion, alright?--Kosebamse 21:28, 18 Oct 2003 (UTC)
- A major problem, in my opinion, are certain contributors habit to revert instead of discussing, which when done from similar-looking IP-adresses and accounts, is not much different from other kinds of vandalism. Maybe we should consider Protecting pages more often in order to allure the combatants into discussing on the Talk-page instead?--Ruhrjung 04:01, 20 Oct 2003 (UTC)

- about Silesia and Wroclaw
- The dispute if Silesia is/was a province of Poland, Bohemia, Germany, Roman Empire, and what should be put into introductory paragraph, and what should go to history section. Difficult to resolve Polish-German controversy flavored by the 19th-20th century nationalisms. I think we need someone neutral to prevent the revert wars.--Grzes of Poznan (caius2ga) 19 Oct 2003
- about Prussia
- Similar problems. To some degree derived from the post-war expulsion of Germans, and in particular from the dispute whether medieval and modern time German presense east of Oder-Neisse ought to be stressed or ought to be neglected. Also East Prussia, Ducal Prussia and Royal Prussia has been affected.--Ruhrjung 09:05, 20 Oct 2003 (UTC)
- Possibly about Pomerania, Szczecin and Gdansk, Polish Corridor
- The dispute over the Polish and German influences in Pomerania, and strict interpretations of historical facts. I think the dispute is under control now, but it can blow up in the future. Difficult to resolve Polish-German controversy flavored by the 19th-20th century nationalisms. I think we need someone neutral to prevent possible revert wars.--Grzes of Poznan (caius2ga) 19 Oct 2003
- Cieszyn/Těšín/Teschen
- As could be expected, the dispute widens: Within minutes after my stub on Těšín [under its anglified or German name Teschen] it was moved to Tesín and a state of war was established. Personally I couldn't care less, except that I suspect the "Tesín"-spelling to be an hybrid. If the "š" is abolished, why keep on to the "í"? There has existed red links for Teschen for quite some time, but none for Tesín. The problem is the brutalizing effects of war in the wiki-world. The pages would be favored from protection. Maybe then the combatants could find a compromize?--Ruhrjung 06:30, 26 Oct 2003 (UTC)
I took the liberty to join the three paragraphs above under one heading.
Besides, I am not even sure that it is a German-Polish warfare. The only contributor I for sure know as a German (me) ended up on the "Polish" side.

Slow-motion revert war between User:Fairandbalanced and User:Sethmahoney. Talk page discussion appears to have reached an impasse. Hopefully this listing will attract the attention of someone who knows about the proof, leading to a better article. -- Cyan 22:55, 9 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Lower Silesia (Prussian province)
Lower Silesia (Prussian province) - edit war between User:Nico and an anon. I warned them on the talk page that the article would be protected if the edit war doesn't stop; Silesia is an issue that I feel is minor enough that I can be impartial on it. -- Pakaran 00:55, 14 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Vladimir Lenin
Vladimir Lenin - edit war between User:Mir Harven and everyone else watching the article. Mir keeps putting a lengthy POV analysis of Lenin into the article, which he justifies the validity of by noting that the paragraph in question came from when he "almost literally rewrote" the text of an essay by one Kolakowski. Would someone be so kind as to lock the article for a bit until Mir loses interest? Kwertii 23:02, 31 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Al Gore
Although it shows some signs of avoiding full "edit war" status, I think at this point it should be noted that Al Gore is certainly being disputed between several Wikipedians on one side and User:ChrisDJackson on the other. Chris (according to private correspondence with me) is the founder of www.algoresupportcenter.com, which explained a lot of this dispute for me. I don't know if this will warrant protection: Jiang and I have both tried to curb the bias that was entering the article with some success...Jiang much more successfully than I. Just wanted record of it. Jwrosenzweig 16:43, 2 Jan 2004 (UTC)

U.S. presidential election, 2004
See history on U.S. presidential election, 2004. I originally posted Howard Dean's Confederate flag comment to the timeline:
- November 1 - In an interview with the Des Moines Register, Howard Dean is quoted as saying "I still want to be the candidate for guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks. We can't beat George Bush unless we appeal to a broad cross-section of Democrats." This quote stirs strong controversy among Democratic contenders. [2]
This was removed citing POV problems, because there weren't other quotes. Further discussion on the Talk page
Papal Infallibility

Lucy insists that his badly written version, which contains material at once irrelevant and incorrect, be used. I don't think Lucy should be editing the page at all, and wonder if he can be blocked from doing so. The fact that he read about the tuning in an old book, named it after himself, and assiduously promoted it does not mean he is going to do especially well in maintaining NPOV. Gene Ward Smith 19:33, 27 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Mirv and Reddi insist on making POV reverts that do not reflect what skepticism is properly. The edit is laced with bias, fallacy, and POV links with obvious bias and lies. - Lord Kenneth 19:36, Jan 27, 2004 (UTC)

Edit wars with Lir and 168...
DNA
Entrenched mediation, undecided process of resolution. I want no part in a vote-based process that involves Lir, because I distrust his motives, find him uncommitted to reasoned dialogue, and dislike every edit he proposes besides. Others want Lir involved on the principle that all non-banned users are equal. I don't want a vote, but a good-faith, reasoned discussion of the relative merits of the proposed replacement paragraphs versus the originals...which I contend is impossible to have with Lir, and I expect never to be persuaded otherwise. Hence this article now has two problems. Lir and me. 168... 01:03, 17 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Not so much a dispute over an article as a (polite!) debate between myself and User:Nikola_Smolenski over nomenclature: should placenames in Kosovo be given in exclusively Serbian versions (following Serbian conventional practice), or Serbian plus Albanian versions (following the UN/OSCE practice)? This has implications for other politically disputed placenames (e.g. in Cyprus, Northern Ireland etc). Advice would be welcomed on Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (places). -- ChrisO 17:08, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)

The nationalists are at it again, along with (I think) some reasonable people getting sucked into it: was he German or Polish? This is milder than some previous wars on this subject, but it still disables the article for any serious edits. I have made an intemperate edit directly into the article, since the various editors do not ever read the Talk page. If the nonsense goes on, the sysop who protects the article might well revert it to the version of Zoicon5, which is better than the one it was previously reverted to. I'll apologize now for my edit and its accompanying comment. Dandrake 08:31, Feb 12, 2004 (UTC)

Edit War between Conte Said Vassallo , and various ip`s and members
- I have listed the page for deletion, as there were no discussions with other members and non members. The fact remains that both my web site www.maltagenealogy.com and www.maltesenobility.org list the history of Sant Cassia. They are the only sites with a history and are on similiar par to what I have placed here. So what is the problem with these other isp's and members?? I do compromise and if anyone reads what was noted in the original votes for deletion, they would have had a chance to settle on what should be noted. One thing is for sure, heirs shouldn't be noted as the title holder has never offically noted any one, nor has the Committee of Maltese titles. Instead Its best that SANT CASSIA should never be listed.
Shouldnt be having an edit war, when information can be displayed. People will rely on a member of a family for facts if its a surname, I Think , tell me if im wrong.
- Your wrong as Ghariexem and other isp's creates rather then resort to facts. That is why it should be deleted.
