The 2010 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final was played on October 5, 2010, at Qwest Field (now Field) in Seattle, Washington. The match determined the winner of the 2010 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, a tournament open to amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with the United States Soccer Federation. This was the 97th edition of the oldest competition in United States soccer. Seattle Sounders FC won the match, defeating the Columbus Crew 2–1 in front of a sellout crowd of 31,311, the highest attendance at a U.S. Open Cup final. Sounders FC became the first team since 1983 to win two consecutive U.S. Open Cup championships and the first Major League Soccer club to ever do so. As a result of its U.S. Open Cup championship, Seattle earned a berth in the preliminary round of the 2011–12 CONCACAF Champions League, as well as a $100,000 cash prize. The Crew received the runner-up prize of $50,000. (more…)</div></div> |

At least one point, maybe two. One point because it's been over three months since the last soccer (association football) related article (Luton Town Football Club on June 10). Possibly one point for date significance, except that I'd like to run it a day early to conincide with the 2011 final which will be played on October 4th instead of the 5th. --SkotyWATC 15:45, 15 September 2011 (UTC) |
Revision as of 15:45, 15 September 2011
Here the community can nominate articles to be selected as "Today's featured article" (TFA) on the main page. The TFA section aims to highlight the range of articles that have "featured article" status, from Art and architecture through to Warfare, and wherever possible it tries to avoid similar topics appearing too close together without good reason. Requests are not the only factor in scheduling the TFA (see Choosing Today's Featured Article); the final decision rests with the TFA coordinators: Wehwalt, Dank and Gog the Mild, who also select TFAs for dates where no suggestions are put forward. Please confine requests to this page, and remember that community endorsement on this page does not necessarily mean the article will appear on the requested date.
If you have an exceptional request that deviates from these instructions (for example, an article making a second appearance as TFA, or a "double-header"), please discuss the matter with the TFA coordinators beforehand. It can be helpful to add the article to the pending requests template, if the desired date for the article is beyond the 30-day period. This does not guarantee selection, but does help others see what nominations may be forthcoming. Requesters should still nominate the article here during the 30-day time-frame.

How to post a new nomination:
Scheduling: In the absence of exceptional circumstances, TFAs are scheduled in date order, not according to how long nominations have been open or how many supportive comments they have. So, for example, January 31 will not be scheduled until January 30 has been scheduled (by TFAR nomination or otherwise). |
Summary chart
Currently accepting requests from August 1 to August 31.
The TFAR requests page is currently accepting nominations from August 1 to August 31. Articles for dates beyond then can be listed here, but please note that doing so does not count as a nomination and does not guarantee selection.
Before listing here, please check for dead links using checklinks or otherwise, and make sure all statements have good references. This is particularly important for older FAs and reruns.

September 19
September 18 marks the 20th Anniversary of the airing of the episode, so that's two points. I've been off wikipedia for a month, so I have no idea if similar articles have been featured recently.
Stark Raving Dad is one of the most famous episodes of the show, so I think it is fitting to commemorate the anniversary. The most recent Simpsons-related article to be TFA was The Simpsons Game on December 17 of last year (although Phil Hartman was TFA on June 8, and is part of the Simpsons project). -- Scorpion0422 18:31, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
- Well ... on the points, I don't disagree, but I would be hard pressed to say it doesn't lose points if either of the other TV nominees (nonspecific and September 8) runs.--Wehwalt (talk) 10:03, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- Is this being requested for the 18th or the 19th? It says the 18th is the anniversary but the blurb says something different. odd.--Wehwalt (talk) 22:15, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
September 28
Seven points. Promoted over a year ago (1 point). Sesquicentennial anniversary (4 points). An article on the American Civil War has not been a TFA in well more than 6 months (2 points). Historical Perspective (talk) 10:47, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
- I'm dubious about the final two points. We do not differentiate out the ACW. Five points, but don't stress it, we've never bumped even a four point article.--Wehwalt (talk) 17:15, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
