Revision as of 13:58, 18 June 2020
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | |
---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism. Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here |

Current requests for increase in protection level
Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

- Note: No idea what the last stable version was. This has been LIC for some time. --Deep fried okra (schalte ein) 17:43, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- There appears to have been a mix-up between move-protection and full-protection. If one of you admins patrolling here would mind fixing that that would be welcome. Cheers, RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 00:47, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- Note: No. No "mixup". It was IP vs logged in users, and I just wanted them to think before they wound up at WP:EWN. IP removed edit warning notice, but has not resumed. so perhaps the disruption is stopped. if it resumes, a block might be i order. --Deep fried okra (schalte ein) 08:25, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Other rationale. Block evasion: Persistent addition of fake sources by a now indeffed user. A shortwhile of SP on top of the current PC should help. @DrKay: Since you indeffed that user. RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 00:37, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- I don't think the IP from Boulder, Colorado, is the same editor as the blocked one who inserted the fake reference, who I suspect is from Africa. The IP is wrong though. The reference makes no mention of 2nd millennium Mesopotamia, or the Hittites of Asia Minor. It only mentions the 3rd millennium Sumerian reliefs and the later Greek depictions. The reference is fake because none of the information in the tagged sentence can be found in that source. The IP editor hasn't checked whether the source supports the material. DrKay (talk) 07:58, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- Declined – No changes to the current protection level are required at this point in time. Talking to the IP directly might help; seems not to be a stranger to Wikipedia ways, as they attempt to commuciate via edit summaries. Lectonar (talk) 10:09, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Article is being hit by banned sock and anon IP. indefinite semi for a few months should tone down the drama. Montanabw(talk) 00:43, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
List of cities and towns in Bangladesh
- List of cities and towns in Bangladesh (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Temporary full protection: Population data were completely falsified or, assuming good faith, misunderstood, confusing cities with the same-named districts (Zila) or sub-districts (Upazila). Some examples: the areas of Narayanganj and Gazipur (2 major cities around Dhaka) varies from 12 and 47 to 125 and 397 km2; some of the sources are broken link, other (in Bengali, I checked with Google Translate) speak of something else and, paradoxically, other sources (added too by the users who changed the page) confirm the data before this big change. The old sources (2011 census) have been kept in the page and, of course, contradict the new data. Data changed in some articles about various cities and there is not a Wikipedia edition that shows the same data, while reporting all the 2011 census. This mess with haphazard/random (and unsourced) data should be stopped. After my first rollback, this user inisists to vandalize the page with this mass of falsified data. --79.12.248.175 (talk) 03:03, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

- Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. --Deep fried okra (schalte ein) 08:43, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- Note: Full protection would prevent anyone but admins from editing, and you reverted an admin, so pointless. --Deep fried okra (schalte ein) 08:43, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Extended/Indefinite protection against IP-editing: The article is already in temporary semi-protection, by Johnuniq, based on my request. But on further investigation I found out that, IPs 49.xxx.xxx.xxx have been involved in edit-warring on the page for long, these IPs have been involved in disruptive-editing for at least 5 years (I didn't investigated earlier to that) and have had conflict with many users like, ParthikS8, Snowsky Mountain, FreeatlastChitchat, ԱշոտՏՆՂ, Jim1138, Rsrikanth05, FoCuSandLeArN, CatcherStorm, pushing the page into semi-protection multiple times. Based on the behavior I highly suspect that as soon as page goes un-protected it'll be again become turf of disruptive-editing and leading to edit-war, hence, I place this request for extended/indefinite protection against IP-editing.--Fztcs 08:18, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- In the article's history, showing the last 500 edits goes back to August 2014. In that time, various 49.x.x.x IPs have made a total of 31 edits from January 2016 to June 2020. I'm in a rush and won't take any action at the moment but I don't think the article is ready for more protection yet. Per WP:PROT, protection is not applied in anticipation of trouble. Attracting more editors to the talk page would be very helpful as there needs to be a consensus demonstrated regarding the IP's proposals. Johnuniq (talk) 09:48, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Multiple IP addresses removing sourced contents and adding unsourced material so can we have some mild protection this time? Also, please note that there is a sponsored campaign going on to whitewash this page on Twitter. Thank you. GSS 💬 13:05, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- While I also support ongoing semi-protection (perhaps auto-confirmed), it is a bit dishonest of this user to attribute any attempt to change the page to the boogieman of a "sponsored campaign" (if that's even true, perhaps this is an attempt to avoid having to defend the contents of the article in good-faith discussion, or seeing nails everywhere, so to speak). This page was entirely hijacked and written by one user (recently gone) about two years ago (July 2018), completely unilaterally, and any attempts to change the page or engage in productive discussion were stonewalled equally unilaterally (someone appears to have taken up the mantle...). The page violates multiple Wiki neutrality policies and verges on being an wp:attack page, indeed engaging in whitewashing of the role of certain parties and engaging in government apologism. Countless users have been trying to edit the page for years, it's not new. Even admins have proposed a rewrite process, which is very thankfully under way, to the dismay of some. Current requests for reduction in protection level
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Remove SP. Protecting admin is an involved editor and was reinstating previous SP after full protection timed out. There are no current issues with the article requiring any form of protection. Content disputes are being debated on the Talk page. The matter has recently been addressed here [1], and at the protecting admin's talk page, here. To date, no evidence has been presented about off-wiki actions. Arcturus (talk) 12:19, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- Note: As this has already been brought up elsewhere (with no result as yet) imho this should not be processed here. Let the discussion at AN run its course. Lectonar (talk) 12:32, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- You forgot to mention that indefinite SP was applied by Sandstein in 2013 and expired only becaiuse of temporary full protection applied 2020-02-16 by El C. So any removal of semiprotection needs to be viewed in the light of the fact that this was merely a restoration of the long-standing protection of the article in response to long term abuse. Current requests for edits to a protected page
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
