Frances Abbott, daughter of Liberal Party politician Tony Abbott (then opposition leader), paid $7,546 for a $68,182 degree at the college in 2011, the rest being covered by a "chairman’s scholarship"; the chairman being a donor to the Liberal Party and Tony Abbott personally. The scholarship was not offered to other students, who were told there was no scholarship available for that program. Instead Frances was selected for the occasional scholarship by the founder and owner of the Whitehouse Institute, Leanne Whitehouse. The scholarship was not disclosed by Abbott in the parliamentary Register of Members’ Interests. It has subsequently been alleged that Leanne Whitehouse has engaged in lobbying Tony Abbott in relation to gaining accreditation for a Masters of Design course and that Frances Abbott is employed by the institute while she waits to start studying the aforementioned course despite having no role in her employment. |
