:{{u|Floquenbeam}} {{u|Phil Bridger}} Sorry if I gave bad advice. I was more concerned about how other people would react. I personally don't care. If he wants to go neutral he can. Hey, you two don’t have to say sorry, it’s fine. Some context: I want to become an admin, but it just seemed like a long process to get admin rights and I’m pretty busy irl. So I thought another way to do something big for me, is by voting for the users in rfa that want to become admins. I decided to look into some of the recent elections and look at some of the stuff to see how the process works, then I would cast my vote. |
|||
Here were my two reasons for voting neutral: |
|||
1. Neutral votes don’t effect the support percent, and also since everyone voted in support, my vote wouldn’t have made a difference. |
|||
2. One of the rfa voting elections for Modussiccandi had someone in the general comments ask, “Not a single opposing vote?” And some people in the replies talked about some snowball or something. If what you said is true, then maybe they were just excited that there is a unanimous agreement in that election. When I read beginning of the thread, I misinterpreted as that people were suspicious that someone got so many supportive votes. So, I didn’t want the same thing to happen to Firefly, so that’s why I voted neutral. Sorry if it makes no sense, it’s my first time voting in an admin election on Wikipedia, I’ll try to do better. (I’m thinking of switching back my vote to neutral, but I’m still deciding.) [[User:Toad40(Mobile)|Toad40(Mobile)]] ([[User talk:Toad40(Mobile)|talk]]) 05:31, 11 March 2022 (UTC) |

Ominous threats about neutral votes
Toad40, (and pinging Phil Bridger who was also concerned): To explain further, a neutral vote (yes, a neutral vote!) might stress out the 235-0-1 nominee. Even thought this would still result in a 100% support rate (the way we do the math). We simply cannot have that. Our article on Roman triumphs says "In some accounts, a companion or public slave would remind him from time to time of his own mortality (a memento mori)". Wikipedian triumphs opt instead for enforced unanimity. A harmless neutral vote in the Neutral section results in ominous threats; I should probably consider myself lucky I wasn't blocked indef for a temporary humorous oppose in the same RFA last week (and an actual memento mori would probably result in a T&S report for death threats).
Or, to be less sarcastic, what you did was a little goofy, but no, it didn't deserve the threat. I'm uneasy that someone can say "I would recommend moving to support or deleting your !vote", and only one person bats an eye (to be fair, one person so far).
Haven't seen your name before, nice to meet you. If this was your introduction to RFA, then sorry if it was a little depressing. RFA is kind of a bizarre place these days. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:00, 10 March 2022 (UTC)
