== Infobox nominations == |

When I performed {{diff|Template:Infobox university|638632931||this edit}}, I failed to realize the situation's magnitude. Apparently, you've been doing this for ''years''. |
|||
I spent a fair chunk of my morning checking your currently nominated templates (more than fifty) and repairing those that others hadn't. Literally hundreds of thousands of articles were affected (and due to caching, some still are). In one instance, a single infobox (already spotted by another editor, thankfully) had more than 400,000 transclusions. |
|||
What a shame, I thought, that no one bothered to bring this issue to your attention. However, [[User talk:Pigsonthewing/Archive 42#TFD template for infoboxes|that isn't so]]. You were advised of the incorrect formatting, dismissively replied that "nothing is broken", and continued to cause widespread disruption. |
|||
This needs to stop immediately. The encyclopedia is written for readers, whose needless confusion is vastly more harmful than any template redundancy possibly could be. When you neglect to insert the "|type=sidebar" or "|type=infobox" parameter, the resultant output ''is'' broken. The message is rendered seemingly nonsensical by its ''incorrect'' placement, which would be unacceptable even if you sought to address a major problem. That you're doing this for the sake of minor tidying behind the scenes (e.g. polluting hundreds of thousands of articles containing an infobox that you want to ''keep'', purely because you spotted an obscure, seldom-used infobox with which it could be merged) is downright startling. That the flaw stems from your inexplicable refusal to insert a 13-character parameter is beyond the pale. —[[User:David Levy|David Levy]] 18:06, 2 January 2015 (UTC) |

Talk to me, Andy Mabbett
- If you post a message on this page, I'll reply on this page to avoid fragmenting the discussion.
- If I've left you a message on your talk page, I will be watching it, so please reply there rather than here (but do feel free to drop a copy of {{Talkback}} here).
- If appropriate, I will move discussion from here to the relevant article's talk page, so that anyone interested can join in.
- If you want to start a new discussion thread, please start it at the bottom of the page. Better still, use the "+" tab next to the "edit this page" tab, or the link at the foot of this section, either of which will do that automatically.
- Please do not make links from within section headings.
- Inaccessible HTML (coloured text, "small" tags", etc.) will be removed from this page on sight.
- Please sign and date your entries by inserting four tildes (~~~~) at the end.
A few minor issues before I get deeper into the review. Thanks for making the nomination to WP:DYK. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 16:59, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
- A few minor issues still remain. Please remedy. Thanks. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 13:53, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Andy, Thanks for your help. I've nominated you as a cocreator. GTG. Cheers. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 02:35, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

Merge
Hi Pigsonthewing. After setting the merge process at paisley and buta in motion, aren't you supposed to create the initial entry in the discussion to serve as point of departure for others to then express their views and support/ oppose? I believe people need a little prodding, otherwise if they go to the discussion page and see that the discussion space has not even been initiated, they will jsut turn away? Regards, Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 20:27, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- No, but if you wish to, be my guest. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:29, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- From Template:Merge/doc, "After adding the merge template, please create a section on the talkpage explaining your rationale for the merge proposal." So, yes, you are supposed to start the discussion you are pointing people to. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:16, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

win(g) for infoboxes
Thank you for quality contributions toward "improving, standardising and rationalising templates, especially infoboxes" such as the growing one for Bach's compositions, for "gently reminding ... don't own sections of Wikipedia" to freely share in the sum of all knowledge: you are an awesome Wikipedian!

Disambiguation link notification for December 24
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Andrea Marshall, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page National Geographic. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
