Hi, I noticed you have removed the thumbnail width parameter from this article, so viewers can chose which size to use - A good idea, but not one I've seen before. Is this a new Wikipedia feature, and how can I - as a viewr -select which size to use? Many thanks, [[User:Lynbarn|Lynbarn]] 00:22, 16 March 2007 (UTC) |

Great answer
Nice job responding to the rant about which version of English the motorcycle article should be in. Hope you don't mind me taking BMW back out of the motorcycle fork article headings. -AndrewDressel 03:56, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Severn motorway crossings
Nothing controversial. Just to say: Cor Blimey! You're really efficient in updating the prices on those crossings. Thanks (Sloman 01:54, 1 January 2007 (UTC))
Avon v N. Somerset
Hi, I've been meaning to make contact for ages as we seem to edit many of the same Somerset articles. I noticed that you changed Uphill Cliff from Avon to N. Somerset. The reason that Avon is still used in this context is that it is the "Area of Search" still used by English nature who designate & list SSSIs as explained on List of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Avon.— Rod talk 21:55, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Understood - and that is why the category is SSSI's in Avon. However, the SSSI is actually located in North Somerset. A little pedantic but I do see what you mean as well. Keep up the good work! --Cheesy Mike 00:36, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- OK I've edited Uphill Cliff to (hopefully) reflect position and explain - perhaps you'd take a look & see if it makes sense? I've also added a bit more about why it is a SSSI. There may be others in List of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Avon which need the same or similar treatment (& possibly BANES & Gloucs as well), but I have no easy way of identifying which ones.— Rod talk 11:01, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Mendip SSSI list
Mike, I hope you enjoyed your walk. If you search English Nature for SSSIs in Somerset there is no mention of Black Rock and Long Wood by those names. The Citation sheet for Cheddar complex doesn't mention them either, do you have map refs for them & I can run another check via a mapping system. Re: Long Wood Swallet I do have a book which talks about it & can do something with that - it's one of many (? over 100) not (yet) included on Caves of the Mendip Hills. The article on Cheddar Complex (which does include mention of Longwood Swallet (NB different spelling)) does need to include links to the caves we have articles about - but I haven't worked out how yet because our article titles are not the same as the SSSI names.
As you've probably seen I've been doing a fair amount of editing on Mendip Hills articles - still need more on the caves & quarries (I'm thinking of splitting that into a article in it's own right) and I'm thinking of doing a separate page on the geology, but when that is all done! I am considering trying to get the Mendip Hills article page up to FA status - as you have loads of local knowledge etc I'd appreciate any thoughts/help on that possibility.
Also do you have any thoughts on the use of Geoboxes rather than infoboxes? I've put one on River Chew & there is now one for "protected areas" which could be suitable for the Mendip Hills AONB.— Rod talk 11:25, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- Longwood Swallet looks good - I've just added the date of discovery. Would you care to comment on the Wikipedia:Peer review/Mendip Hills?— Rod talk 09:47, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
Curious
Just curious as to why this sudden interest in editing nearly every article I have created. I confess to feeling somewhat under assault. Jeff dean 16:56, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- Not at all. The work you have done is superb, I am just "improving". I just have spurts of editing articles that interest me. It just turns out that we have very similar interests! I have done bits and pieces on the BMW bikes for a while e.g. Gelände/Strasse which I wrote most of. What sparked my interest this morning was your "Best viewed at..." fix, which as you know I took exception to, on some of the articles we share on our watchlist. When I then looked under the covers I noticed a few things that could be improved such as moving the reviews/awards down the page on the R1200RT page, or putting an intro sentence on the R75/5 article. I also removed the pixel widths off the regular thumbnail images because that is good style and good sense - although I absolutely agree it isn't a 100% rule as some letterbox images or highly detailed ones need to be higher resolution. --Cheesy Mike 17:23, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Goatchurch Cavern
Saw your revision of the edit changing Goatchurch Cavern to 1500m. It is possible that recent exploration has found a new section. I don't know who 62.136.42.54 is (who changed it from 750m) but I've recently exchanged emails with Dave Irwin who is doing a book on the Mendip Caves & said he would look at the entries. — Rod talk 08:47, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Mendip Hills FAC
Thanks for your comments on the Peer Review of Mendip Hills. I have now put it up as a Featured Article Candidate & comments, support or opposition is being recorded at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Mendip Hills.— Rod talk 10:37, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

F.Y.I. → Citizendium
Because of the incredible amount of vandalism and the prevalence of anonymous users on Wikipedia, I am devoting more of my attention to the new, more controlled competitor, Citizendium, and less to Wikipedia.
It is not certain that Citizendium will survive and prosper, but I think it is worth the support of honest users of Wikipedia. If it does prosper, I will likely work with it exclusively in the future.
