==Stranger and Avengers #137-138== |

Please note that, despite cover claims, at the end of #138 we learn that the Stranger is not the character that fought the Avengers, hence the odd phrasing that I used in Strangers's article (see [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Stranger_%28comics%29&diff=next&oldid=122191224]). ==Publication history== |
Hi. Just wanted to say there's been some concern about removal of "Publication history" from some Comics Project pages. The [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/exemplars|exemplar]] doesn't actually make any exception for "minor" characters, I suppose with the understanding that if they're so minor they don't belong in an encyclopedia. We really need to operate by consensus here or else it's anarchy, so I hope we can all work together, at [[Speed Demon]] and elsewhere, as a single community. Thanks -- [[User:Tenebrae|Tenebrae]] 16:33, 25 April 2007 (UTC) |

==Nighthawk etc.== |

I'm sorry you feel a legitimate discussion about the quality of a peer's work isn't appropriate. I think I've tried very hard over the months to work hand-in-hand with you, and have come to your defense on talk pages when I believed you were right. |
My issue here is that we can't use terms like "Earth-616" in intros because that's jargon to general-interest readers, to whom Wikipedia, by guideline, is aimed. Because of that guideline (and, I believe, for clear writing anyway), we have to write as if they know nothing about the subject. |
The same way you or I might now know anything about [[ice skating]], say. The first paragraph there even has what might seem too simple as sentence, but which is exactly what one writes in an encyclopedia: "It is mainly done for [[recreation]] and as a [[sport]]." |
That's what one reason we use the phrase "the 1930s-'40s period fans and historians call the [[Golden Age of Comic Books]]". We comics readers know what's what meant by "the Golden Age of Comic Books", but it needs defining for lay readers. That's all anybody is saying -- to write these things for people who know nothing about a subject and are trying to look it up. --[[User:Tenebrae|Tenebrae]] 14:21, 28 April 2007 (UTC) |

::I've been perusing your comment to [[User:J Greb|J Greb]] and me. Here's what I added to the discussion ongoing on J Greb's talk page, and I hope you please read it all the way through. :::And at least two other editors agree with you, [[User:J Greb|J Greb]], that we ''welcome'' [[User:Asgardian|Asgardian]]'s efforts and enthusiasm and only want to help develop his writing skills. That said, I reworked the alternate-version (Earth 712) section of the Whizzer article in what God knows I hope serves at least a little bit as a model for giving ''the same information'' in layman English. --[[User:Tenebrae|Tenebrae]] 16:57, 28 April 2007 (UTC) |

::::Insulting my intelligence is quite unnecessary. I think the record shows, from the times you've been blocked to the constant arguments you get into with other editors and all the administrator intervention you've required, that you are not a great and responsible editor. Being a great and responsible editor means being able to work with your colleagues amicably. The rest of us do it. Why can't you? --[[User:Tenebrae|Tenebrae]] 12:08, 29 April 2007 (UTC) |

:::::Honestly, I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to be encouraging. I write and edit professionally, so I genuinely want to be helpful and encouraging, the way many people were to me. :How you present yourself can determine how seriously anyone else takes you. For example, have you really been reading the other versions you've been reverting? Your edit summaries ("Address the issues - this version has correct tense, no POV, correct grammar, sourcing and no spacing issues/poor use of images. Other version only suitable for fan site." "Since the other version is fundamentally flawed for all the previously listed reasons, this is the version that should be addressed as it has been shaped to user comments.") when reverting [[Vision (comics)]] from its form as a disambiguation page make it sound like you simply reverted blindly without looking at it. Hey, I wanted to give you a heads-up as to why I just fiddled with the image you most recently uploaded. There's an editor who is in the process of tagging all images without a fair use rationale for deletion. He's tagged around 10 or so within the comics domain. I used to think that having the boilerplate {{[[Template:non-free comic|non-free comic]]}} was good enough, but apparently you need to justify the usage beyond that. To that end, I added a fair use rationale template to your Melter picture. Feel free to adjust it, if need be. Cheers, [[User:GentlemanGhost|GentlemanGhost]] 00:44, 4 June 2007 (UTC) |

The RfC consensus went against your version, which uses non-standard issue dates and numbering (the WPC editorial guidelines say the style is "vol. 1" not "v1", for example), and it seems as though you're deliberating flouting consensus for the sole purpose to getting a rise out of other editors. This has to stop.--[[User:Tenebrae|Tenebrae]] 03:53, 21 June 2007 (UTC) |

== Blocked == |
I've blocked you for 24 hours based on your edits at [[Blood Brothers (comics)]]. You reverted edits without making any attempt to discuss the issue. You appear to have a problem with the consensus with regards to publication history sections in articles, but the way to change those is to initiate discussion rather than change each and every article. Wikipedia is a collaborative project in which everyone must work together and work towards consensus. Users who cannot discuss or respect consensus are disruptive. Your edits are disruptive because you reject community input. [[User:Steve block|Steve block]] <small>[[User talk:Steve block|Talk]] </small> 13:10, 22 June 2007 (UTC) |

==Spirit of the block== |

I had a slight (and slightly pained) chuckle despite myself when I read, "I thank both Netkinetic and Doczilla for their words. Until I saw that, I was ready to quit." Actually, the chuckle came when I imagined anybody who might want you to go away mutter, "Damn it, Doc." |
I empathize with the need you felt to express yourself just now. I have no idea what precedents exist that are likely to determine whether or not that's going to backfire. On the one hand, it seems like you should be free to speak in an official discussion that is about you. On the other hand, a block is a block. E-mailing an involved admin with a copy of what you wanted to say and asking if it would be okay to post it might have been prudent. I don't know how that works. |
I might recommend that, as a demonstration of abiding with the intent of the 24-hour block, you might voluntarily restart your personal block-clock and not make any new edits until another 24 hours have passed, and promptly e-mail Steve so he knows that's what you're doing. That might or might not reduce the likelihood of your getting heat over posting even that message while blocked. It's just a suggestion, for whatever it's worth. |
In terms of your editing, I said it a long time ago and I still think it's the best advice: Slow down. Make one edit at a time per article. Yeah, that might seem tedious when you know what changes you see the need for, but considering how long these disputes have been going on, I still think your time would be used more efficiently and your efforts would see fruition more consistently if you do that. I've blocked you for 31 hours based on your edits at [[Wrecking Crew (comics)]] and [[Wonder Man]]. You reverted edits without making any attempt to discuss the issue, and you marked a major reversion of the Wonder Man page as a minor edit, removing edits which have stood within the page for weeks. You have been notified as to the correct use for the minor edit check box, specifically that when the status of a page is disputed, and particularly if an edit war is brewing, then it is better not to mark any edit as minor. Wikipedia is a collaborative project in which everyone must work together and work towards consensus. Your edits are disruptive because you reject community input. You also seem to be behaving in a manner at odds with [[WP:OWN]] and [[WP:DISRUPT]]. Please learn to discuss issues with other editors rather than simply reverting, please allow people the chance to improve their edits rather than blanket removing them, please use the minor edit box in a manner consistent with the guidance on its use and please attempt to collaborate with others to benefit Wikipedia. [[User:Steve block|Steve block]] <small>[[User talk:Steve block|Talk]] </small> 13:20, 6 July 2007 (UTC) |
:I'm sorry you feel the block was victimisation. I posted the block for review once again at the administrators noticeboard, and once again I received no feedback. However, your comments seem to signal a lack of understanding as to why you were blocked. Repeatedly you revert articles, marking such reverts as minor. This is disruptive on two counts. Firstly, you should not simply revert, you should seek to engage with someone, and with your reversions I see no attempt to open dialogue. You should certainly not revert twice as you did at [[Wrecking Crew (comics)]] without opening a dialogue '''after the first reversion'''. I can see no attempt to open a dialogue on any talk page related to those two reversions. Secondly, our guidance makes the specific point that reversions should not be marked as minor. I have already explained to you on numerous occasions what counts as a minor edit. I am sorry you disagree with the guidance as to what counts as a minor edit, and that you have your own definitions, but Wikipedia is a collaborative project, and part of that collaboration is that we used agreed definitions. Using your own definitions after being reminded of our guidance is disrupting, especially when coupled with the fact that you do not discuss your reversions. Constantly reverting other people's edits to your own versions, without discussing is also behaviour in keeping with [[WP:OWN]]. Nobody disputes that some of your contributions are not valuable. However, you seem to be unaware that some of your contributions are disruptive. Perhaps if you were prepared to modify your behaviour, discuss the issues with a given editors version rather than blanket revert, and not mark anything other than the following as minor: |
* Spelling corrections |
* Simple formatting (capitalisation, et cetera) |
* Formatting that does not change the meaning of the page (e.g. adding horizontal lines, splitting one paragraph into two—where this is not contentious) |
* Obvious factual errors (changing ''1873'' to ''1973'', where the event in question clearly took place in 1973) |
* Fixing layout errors |
* Adding and correcting links |
* Removing [[Wikipedia:vandalism|vandalism]] |
:then there would be no cause to block you as being disruptive. If someone reverts an article after you have reverted it, do not revert them back, as that is the beginning of an edit war, as I am sure you are well aware, and disrupts Wikipedia. If you are prepared to modify your behaviour in such a manner, I can see no reasons why you would be blocked. You suggest the idea of a monitor, then I suggest you look at [[WP:MENTOR]]. I personally think it would be wise if you chose someone unconnected with comics articles, especially considering your points on objectivity. ::At this point Steve, you really need to pull yourself out of this situation and allow a more objective administrator handle the situation. I reverted the edit to place the Black Knight's Avengers United They Stand appearance. The reason being is that he appeared in the comic based on the cartoon, not the cartoon. == A template that may be of use to you == |
When you're pulling material out of an article because it is unsourced, I've just discovered this template, {{tl|Uw-unsourced1}}, which you can add to the talk page of the person who added the unsourced material. That seems a great tool for you, so I thought I'd mention it. There are three uses: |
:<code>{{tlsx|Uw-unsourced1}} <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki></code> |
:<code>{{tlsx|Uw-unsourced1|''Article''}} <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki></code> references a specific article |
:<code>{{tlsx|Uw-unsourced1|''Article''|''Additional text''}} <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki></code> adds text onto the end of the message instead of "Thank you" |
If I was you I'd consider the second one, {{tlsx|Uw-unsourced1|''Article''}} <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>, just remember to edit it to put the name of the article in where it says Article. [[User:Steve block|Steve block]] <small>[[User talk:Steve block|Talk]] </small> 09:54, 11 July 2007 (UTC) |

My meager suggestion: When you feel persecuted by certain people's unconstructive remarks that aren't even about improving edits, you act like they didn't say them. Re: "This is a wiki-style entry." No, it's not. You've made how many edits on Wikipedia? And yet you can't (or won't) recognize what's wrong with that article. For example (and this is only one example), take a look at these section headings. Look long and hard until you see what's wrong with what you wrote: |

::Plot Summary |

Surely you can see the problem. ==Fair use disputed for Image:MarvelTeam-Up145.jpg== |
[[Image:Nuvola apps important.svg|32px|left]] |
Thanks for uploading '''[[:Image:MarvelTeam-Up145.jpg]]'''. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at [[Wikipedia:Non-free content]] carefully, then go to [[:Image:MarvelTeam-Up145.jpg|the image description page]] and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at [[Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline]] is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. |
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our [[WP:CSD#Images/media|Criteria for speedy deletion]]. If you have any questions please ask them at the [[Wikipedia:Media copyright questions|Media copyright questions page]]. Thank you.<!-- Template:No fair -->[[User:BetacommandBot|BetacommandBot]] 04:52, 16 September 2007 (UTC) |

==[[Marvel vs. DC]]== |

I am getting messages from editors asking me to look into your conduct on this article. I am baffled as to why, as I can't see that you've done anything wrong. However, you may find people more amenable to large-scale edits if you do them in chunks. This way, if there's one section another editor doesn't like, it won't get reverted wholescale. [[User:Neil|<span style="text-decoration:none; font-family: cursive ;color: #006600">Neil</span>]] [[User_talk:Neil|<span style="text-decoration:none; color: #006600">ム</span>]] 20:39, 20 September 2007 (UTC) |

:What did I say? You just did exactly the same edit, again. This is what got you blocked last time. Read [[WP:OWN]], read the talk page, and learn to work with others. I have tried to come to a compromise edit. If you keep reverting against the wishes of many other editors, you will end up getting blocked for a long time (not by me, now, but by an uninvolved admin). ::I understand your view, but it's pretty apparent the other people disagreeing with you, well, disagree with you. They think the other version has "all the necessary trimmings". I'm doing my best to help achieve a compromise between the two, but reverting back to your version and promising you will "pad it out" later is not the best way to achieve that. Instead of reverting it wholescale to get rid of what you see as POV, pick one paragraph, and state what is wrong with it on the talk page. Don't change it until others have discussed it, too. ==Orphaned non-free media (Image:Thor-338.jpg)== |
[[Image:Nuvola apps important blue.svg|25px]] Thanks for uploading '''[[:Image:Thor-338.jpg]]'''. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a [[WP:FU|claim of fair use]]. However, it is currently [[Wikipedia:Orphan|orphaned]], meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. [[WP:BOLD|You may add it back]] if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see [[Wikipedia:Non-free content#Policy|our policy for non-free media]]). |
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "[[Special:Contributions/{{PAGENAME}}|my contributions]]" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any '''articles''' will be deleted after seven days, as described on [[wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#Images.2FMedia|criteria for speedy deletion]]. Thank you.<!-- Template:Orphaned --> [[User:BetacommandBot|BetacommandBot]] 14:16, 24 September 2007 (UTC) |

== Thanks == |

Thank you for backtracking and taking care of the little edits such as spelling for me. When I do rewrites of questionable articles - such as Korvac - I often just keep writing and don't get back to doing the minor touches straight away. It is appreciated. |

:No problem. :) I may not always agree with your approach, but since this is a group project I would be foolish to not add my contributions as well! I've been doing a lot of spellchecking/minor format work lately, so Korvac and numerous others got some fixing today. [[User:BOZ|BOZ]] 00:34, 25 September 2007 (UTC) |

==Nice work== |

Hey, Asgardian. Nice work on the ''DC vs. Marvel'' article. I don't agree with all your edits but when in a dispute you're a team player and able to find common ground. That's always nice to see. Take care. - [[User:Throw|Throw]] 10:47, 25 September 2007 (UTC) |
