This is crazy, I've edited the pages Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump simultaneously (adding the religion field in the infoboxes) since I've seen similar fields in many other articles, e.g. John Kerry, and received a notification that there's been a consensus somewhere at some talk page that this is not allowed - alright, sure, I'm okay with those edits being reverted if the community rejects them, but being directly banned? Does it mean that I have to read every policy discussion that has ever happened since the launch of Wikipedia in order to be able to make any edits? Welcome!
Welcome to Wikipedia, Parkstad! I am Marek69 and have been editing Wikipedia for quite some time. I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Wikipedia! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or by typing helpme at the bottom of this page. I love to help new users, so don't be afraid to leave a message! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- Introduction
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- How to write a great article
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place helpme on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome!

Secondary names of Finnish municipalities
Please note, that Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names)#Finland states: "The secondary names of municipalities should not be mentioned in other articles than the article about the municipality itself (e.g., "Helsinki (Swedish: Helsingfors)" should not be used anywhere else than in the lead of Helsinki). So, please do not add secondary names (Finnish for Swedish majority municipalities and Swedish for Finnish majority municipalities) to infoboxes or lists. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Template:Party of European Socialists. Doing so helps everyone understand the intention of your edit (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Thank you. Trafford09 (talk) 14:44, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Corrupt svg file
Hello, you uploaded the Rangers FC logo svg file in 2010. It seems to work fine on the website, but when downloaded in svg format it seems to be corrupt and wont open with inkscape. Would it be possible for you to re-upload it? or have you any idea why when I download the svg file, it wont open in inkscape? Many thanks VanguardScot (talk) 23:52, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hello! I've tried to download the file and open it in Inkscape, and it worked. Unfortunately I can't say what causes the problem you got. I use Inkscape 0.48, probably re-downloading or updating Inkscape would help? Stadscykel (talk) 18:24, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
Aalto University School of Science and Technology RM
Hi Stadscykel. It's generally not appropriate to close an RM in which you've participated. Since there doesn't seem to be any opposition to the one at Talk:Aalto University School of Science and Technology#Requested move, you'll probably be alright in this case, but in general, it's better to wait for an administrator or an uninvolved editor to close the discussion. I know that can take a while due to the RM backlog, and I know it can be frustrating, but it's the right thing to do. Also, as a non-administrator, when you close RM discussions, you may want to use the template RMnac to indicate this. --BDD (talk) 18:17, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hello. I followed Wikipedia:Requested_moves/Closing_instructions#Who_can_close_requested_moves, in particular the rule "However, it is fine for a discussion participant to close a requested move in the following circumstances: If the discussion reaches a unanimous result after a full listing period (seven days).", as well as WP:NAC. I'm not really sure how to revert the closure now so that it wouldn't classify as "new" by the bot etc. Stadscykel (talk) 18:29, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Elron (rail transit), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Valga (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Controversial edits
Regarding these controversial edits:[1][2], please do not restore without first providing citations that show that you have met Wikipedia's requirements for listing religion in the infobox.
As a reminder, here are the requirements for listing a religion in the infobox or categories (religion in the body of the article has different rules):
- Per Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Archive 126#RfC: Religion in biographical infoboxes: "the 'religion=' parameter and the associated 'denomination=' parameter should be removed from all pages that use Template:Infobox person. Inclusion is permitted in individual articles' infoboxes as a custom parameter only if directly tied to the person's notability. Inclusion is permitted in derived, more specific infoboxes that genuinely need it for all cases, such as one for religious leaders." Please note that if nobody has bothered to mention religion in the body of the article, that is strong evidence that the subject's beliefs are not relevant to their public life or notability.
- Per WP:BLPCAT: "Categories regarding religious beliefs (or lack of such) should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief or orientation in question, and the subject's beliefs are relevant to their public life or notability, according to reliable published sources" ... "These principles apply equally to lists, navigation templates, and Infobox statements". In the context of politicians and political candidates, there is a strong consensus in discussion after discussion that The "relevant to their public life or notability" clause should be interpreted as follows: Would this individual be notable for his/her religion if he/she were not notable for running for US president? Are we talking about someone who is notable for being religious, of someone who is notable who also happens to be religious?
- Per WP:CAT/R: "Categories regarding religious beliefs or lack of such beliefs of a living person should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief in question (see WP:BLPCAT), either through direct speech or through actions like serving in an official clerical position for the religion." In other words, if someone running for US president has never publicly stated on the record that they belong to a religion, we don't take the word of even reliable sources on what their religion is.
- Per WP:CATDEF: "A central concept used in categorising articles is that of the defining characteristics of a subject of the article. A defining characteristic is one that reliable sources commonly and consistently define in prose, as opposed to a tabular or list form the subject as having -- such as nationality or notable profession (in the case of people), type of location or region (in the case of places), etc. (Emphasis is in original)
- Per WP:DEFINING: "Biographical articles should be categorized by defining characteristics. As a rule of thumb for main biographies this includes: standard biographical details: year of birth, year of death and nationality [and] the reason(s) for the person's notability; i.e., the characteristics the person is best known for. For example, a film actor who holds a law degree should be categorized as a film actor, but not as a lawyer unless his or her legal career was notable in its own right [...] a defining characteristic is one that reliable, secondary sources commonly and consistently define, in prose, the subject as having. For example: "Subject is an adjective noun..." or "Subject, an adjective noun,...". If such examples are common, each of adjective and noun may be deemed to be "defining" for subject. If the characteristic would not be appropriate to mention in the lead portion of an article, it is probably not defining. [...] Often, users can become confused between the standards of notability, verifiability, and "definingness". Notability is the test that is used to determine if a topic should have its own article. This test, combined with the test of verifiability, is used to determine if particular information should be included in an article about a topic. Definingness is the test that is used to determine if a category should be created for a particular attribute of a topic. In general, it is much easier to verifiably demonstrate that a particular characteristic is notable than to prove that it is a defining characteristic.
- Per WP:LOCALCON, a local consensus on an article talk page can not override the overwhelming consensus at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Archive 126#RfC: Religion in biographical infoboxes.

If you believe this block is unjustified, please read the guide to appealing blocks (specifically this section) before appealing. Place the following on your talk page:
. If you intend to appeal on the arbitration enforcement noticeboard I suggest you use the arbitration enforcement appeals template on your talk page so it can be copied over easily. You may also appeal directly to me (by email), before or instead of appealing on your talk page. — Coffee // have a cup // beans // 10:38, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
Reminder to administrators: In May 2014, ArbCom adopted the following procedure instructing administrators regarding Arbitration Enforcement blocks: "No administrator may modify a sanction placed by another administrator without: (1) the explicit prior affirmative consent of the enforcing administrator; or (2) prior affirmative agreement for the modification at (a) AE or (b) AN or (c) ARCA (see "Important notes" [in the procedure]). Administrators modifying sanctions out of process may at the discretion of the committee be desysopped."

Notes:
- In some cases, you may not in fact be blocked, or your block has already expired. Please check the list of active blocks. If no block is listed, then you have been autoblocked by the automated anti-vandalism systems. Please remove this request and follow these instructions instead for quick attention by an administrator.
- Please read our guide to appealing blocks to make sure that your unblock request will help your case. You may change your request at any time.
If you ask the blocking administrator to comment on this request, replace this template with the following, replacing "blocking administrator" with the name of the blocking admin:

If you decline the unblock request, replace this template with the following code, substituting
with a specific rationale. Leaving the decline reason unchanged will result in display of a default reason, explaining why the request was declined.

If you accept the unblock request, replace this template with the following, substituting Accept reason here
with your rationale:

This is crazy, I've edited the pages Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump simultaneously (adding the religion field in the infoboxes) since I've seen similar fields in many other articles, e.g. John Kerry, and received a notification that there's been a consensus somewhere at some talk page that this is not allowed - alright, sure, I'm okay with those edits being reverted if the community rejects them, but being directly banned? Does it mean that I have to read every policy discussion that has ever happened since the launch of Wikipedia in order to be able to make any edits? Stadscykel (talk) 20:45, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
