Louie Caporusso is an ice hockey forward who has completed his sophomore season with the Michigan Wolverines men's ice hockey team. During the 2008–09 Michigan Wolverines men's ice hockey season, he was named to the All-Central Collegiate Hockey Association first team.[1] He was also named first-team AHCA/Reebok Division I Ice Hockey All-Americans.[2]
Career
During the 2004–05 season, he played in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) for the Toronto Red Wings, recording 70 points including 41 goals in 56 games. The 70-point total made him the GTHL point leader for the season.[3]
After his league leading performance, he was drafted by the Toronto St. Michael's Majors of the Ontario Hockey League, but instead of playing for them, he spent the following two seasons playing in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OPJHL) for the St. Michael's Buzzers.[3][4] During the 2005–06 season, he led the OPJHL in scoring with 73 points in 48 games and led the team to the OPJHL championship.[3] Caporusso scored 50 points in 37 games during the 2006–07 season, but the team lost in the finals.[3] Following the season, he was drafted with the 90th selection overall in the third round by the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League in the June 22, 2007 NHL Entry Draft.[5]
As a freshman at Michigan, he scored 21 points, including 12 goals, in 33 games.[5] That season he missed eight games due to a leg injury.[4] As a sophomore during the 2008–09 season, Caporusso was one of ten finalsits for the Hobey Baker Award.[6] During the season, he scored 49 points in 41 games.[5] He was also named to the All-Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) first-team and AHCA/Reebok Division I Ice Hockey All-American first-team along with team mate Aaron Palushaj.[1][2] In addition, he was selected to the CCHA All-Conference tournament team.[7] One of the highlights of the season occurred when he scored the first three goals of the game in the first period for the natural hat trick against Michigan Tech on December 27, 2008.[8]
Personal
Caporusso is now from Template:City-state.[6] At the University of Michigan, he studies in the School of Kinesiology and performs public service by visiting the U-M Mott Children’s Hospital.[6] He is a 2007 graduate of the St. Michael's College School.[4]
