Dvira Ovadia (born in Israel, 1979) is a television personality and interior designer. She is best known as winning the 2007 show called From The Ground Up with Debbie Travis SEASON II. The show aired on Global TV May 31st, 2007. The show was re-aired on HGTV in the spring of 2008. Dvira Ovadia is also known for her weekly syndicated column which appears in many blogs which readers often write in to have their decorating questions answered.
Early life and education
Dvira Ovadia was born in Israel in 1979 to a Russian-born Mother and a Father of Egyptian descent. Prior to moving to Toronto, Canada, where she currently resides, she lived in Brussels, Belgium for the most part of her youth. Having been exposed to various cultures has led her to appreciate and understand many different aspects of design.
Dvira Ovadia has always expressed her desires and admirations for Architecture, Fashion & Interior Design. As a child she was always creative, organized and meticulous.
Dvira began her design education with a B.Arch at the University of Toronto, Canada in 1998-2001 where she undertook a Major in Architecture and a Minor in Fine Art History. She graduated with Honors and alongside obtained several diplomas in the technical design sector from Sheridan College, Toronto, Canada.
In 2002 Dvira Ovadia moved to New York to pursue Master Degree in Interior Design at Pratt Institute, New York. She lived in New York for 3 years where she studied and worked in at an Interior Design firm called INARCH.
Dvira Ovadia has always been actively involved in various projects related to the design field. In 2001, she was involved in the set design for the musical ‘Jesus Christ’ at the University of Toronto. That same year, she went on a volunteer mission for the duration of 20 days to El Salvador to assist in the construction of homes for growing communities. Dvira is also involved in the Arts, she has collaborated with various Art Galleries in the Toronto area where she assisted in the planning and curating of Art Exhibitions.
Dvira Ovadia has traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East and North America. In 2004, she embarked on an Architectural pilgrimages to follow the works of Le Corbusier in France & Switzerland, including the very famous Notre-Dame-du-Haut in Ronchamp, and the Villa Savoye in Poissy.
In the Summer of 2001, as a part of the University of Toronto curriculum, Dvira ventured on a 5 week study abroad tour to Siena, Italy where she examined Tuscan Art and Architecture.
In the summer of 2003 Dvira undertook another study abroad program at Denmark’s International Study Program (DIS) affiliated with Pratt Institute in New York. She studied various elements of Scandinavian Design through guest lectures and tours to Western Denmark, Finland and Sweden. The objective of these tours was to become exposed to new building types and native design fundamentals. She was very influenced by the studies and the knowledge that she gained from the entire experience. “In Scandinavia everything is about design, people truly appreciate design and entertain it as part of their every day life” Dvira says.
