Shops Off Broadway Mall, formerly known as Thunderbird Mall is a shopping mall in located in Menomonie, Wisconsin.
The mall started construction in 1972 and this event was greatly covered by local news.[1] The mall opened in 1973.[2] It was developed by Bureau Investment Corporation.[3] It changed hands many times and saw a variety of stores within it, these changes and general discussion of the mall were seen many times in the local news.[4]The mall was remodeled in 2009[5] to become a partial strip mall. Just before the remodel the mall had approximately 13 stores including 2 anchors.[6] The interior was closed in 2018 although the two anchor tenants Dunhams and Stout Craft Co./Broadway Bowl remained open as well as the street accessible stores.[7] As the mall declined locals made videos showing the dire state of the mall.[8] Many nostalgic throwback posts of the mall were made around this time.[9][10][11] Some of the smaller street accessible stores remained open.[12] In 2023 the mall was down to just 9 stores, including 2 anchors, all of which were accessible without having to access the main closed interior of the mall.[13]
In early 2023 construction began on remodeling the closed interior of the mall into storage units. These units opened at the end of 2023 and are available to rent in the present day.[14]
