Jordi Urbea Castells (born June 6, 1970, in Sant Quirze de Besora, Barcelona) is a figure known for his contributions to the field of digital marketing and advertising in Spain. He currently holds the position of Senior Vice President of Ogilvy in Spain and serves as CEO of Ogilvy Barcelona[1]. Throughout his career, Urbea has been involved in the Internet industry, contributing to the shaping of the digital landscape at a national level.[2]
Career
Urbea played a key role in the digital transformation of Ogilvy Spain's operations in Barcelona[3]. Under his leadership, he facilitated the creation of Ogilvy's international Customer Engagement & Data hub in Europe, along with the implementation of Ogilvy Mobile and Ogilvy Upcelerator, recognized as the Ogilvy group's first startup accelerator globally[4]. This initiative is considered pioneering in the sector.[5]
Early years (1985 – 2004)
Before joining Ogilvy, Urbea held management positions in various digital companies, including Servicom, EresMas, Wanadoo, and Intercom. In 1998, he founded the interactive agency Avatar e-Studios, later acquired by communications group Bassat Ogilvy & Mather in 1999. That same year, he assumed the role of CEO of Ogilvy Interactive, a position he held for five years.[6]
Contributions to Advertising and Marketing
Urbea is a frequent speaker at conferences, universities[7], and institutions, sharing insights into new trends in marketing, advertising, and the digital transformation of companies. He is often sought for expert opinions on national television and radio outlets concerning advertising matters[8][9][10][11][12][13]. In addition to his professional career, he is an investor in various startups. Urbea coordinates the master's degree in Direct and Digital Marketing[14] at Pompeu Fabra University and has authored several books, including "Éxito" (Grupo Planeta) and "Recrear, How to Win in the Game of Life" (Plataforma Editorial).
Books
Éxito
"Éxito" offers an informative perspective on business management and leadership. Jordi Urbea, alongside Gabriel García de Oro, Executive Creative Director and Strategy Advisor of Ogilvy Barcelona, explores various business world issues, drawing inspiration from leadership methodologies of renowned soccer coaches such as Pep Guardiola, Juan de Ramos, Manuel Pellegrini, Unai Emery, and Johan Cruyff. The book challenges conventional ideas about leadership, providing a unique perspective on achieving business success through inspiration, motivation, and teamwork.
Recrear. How to Win at the Game of Life
"Recrear. How to Win at the Game of Life" invites readers to explore the human capacity to create and enjoy life repeatedly. The book proposes the idea of living life as an intense and unrepeatable game, encouraging individuals to recreate the ten most important areas of life. It offers practical guidance based on neuroscience discoveries, using short stories, powerful anecdotes, and a sense of humor to engage readers in actively participating in the game of life.
