In cycling, bash plates, also known as bashguards are mounted on the outer part of the front gears on mountain bikes. Intended to protect the gears and chain, they can also be used for grinding on rails, and rest bikes on during trials riding. Other bash plates are mounted to the bottom of the bike, on the bottom bracket.
