The Emporia State University School of Business is a public business school located on the main campus of the Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. The ESU School of Business was founded in 1868 and currently has more than 30 faculty members and approximately 300 students.[1]
History
The Kansas State Normal School (KSN) began offering bookkeeping classes to schoolteachers as early as 1868. Since then, the study of business has been intricately linked with higher education in Emporia. In 1917, KSN began offering a bachelor's degree in commerce. Notable alumni
- Dan Busby – certified public accountant. Co-author of The Christian's Guide to Worry-Free Money Management.[18]
- William Coffin Coleman – founder of Coleman Company. Taught school at Ottawa University for a year before serving as principal of Blue Rapids schools for a year. Coleman also served as mayor of Wichita in 1923 and 1924.
- Ron Frierson – president of Frierson Associates.[19]
- Dale Gibbens – corporate vice president for human resources at Koch Industries.[20]
- John Grantham – vice president for DTE Coal Services responsible for new business development.[21]
- Marion Mariathasan – studied computer science and business at Emporia State and created the companies SoRewarding.com and SoBiz10.[22]
- Russ Meyer – Founder of Meyer Laboratory. Played baseball in Kansas City Royals minor league organization and co-founder of Kansas City Sluggers youth baseball program.
- Carl Ricketts – First Vice President of Capitol Federal Savings Bank.[23]
