Eenadu's paper provided a positive overall review of the movie. Nevertheless, they raised issues regarding the film's portrayal of excessive violence, inappropriate sexual desires, and enigmatic conversations, contributing to a sense of chaos in the storyline. A particular scene depicting the hero killing a hundred people creates situations that appear overly theatrical. The dynamics between the male protagonist and another woman, familiar to the female protagonist, seem to be drawn out excessively <ref name="Eenadu" group="Eenadu">{{cite web |last1=Eenadu |first1=Eenadu |title=Animal movie review: రివ్యూ: యానిమల్.. రణ్బీర్-సందీప్ వంగా యాక్షన్ థ్రిల్లర్ ఎలా ఉంది? |url=https://www.eenadu.net/telugu-news/movies/animal-movie-review-in-telugu/0203/123223017 |website=EENADU |publisher=Eenadu |access-date=1 December 2023 |ref=Eenadu |language=te}}</ref>. |

Reception
Critical response
Awarding the film 4 out of 5 stars, Sukanya Verma of Rediff.com termed the film a "bonkers take on broken daddy-son bonds" and praised Ranbir Kapoor for "strip[ping] himself bare as an artist body and soul".[36] Ganesh Aaglave of Firstpost gave 3.5 out of 5 stars and wrote "Animal is an adrenaline experience which will have polarising views but you can’t deny its entertaining quotient, breathtaking performances and storytelling."[37] Monika Rawal Kukreja of Hindustan Times found it "an absolute massy, entertaining and extremely violent thriller which doesn't believe in conforming to the norms", while adding that the extreme violence might be off-putting for some.[38] Titas Chowdhury of News18 gave 3.5 out of 5 stars, labelled it "dark, loud and garish but also unapologetic", and thought that Ranbir Kapoor "breathes life into this undesirable character with a lot of charisma and swag".[39]
Conversely, Renuka Vyavahare of The Times of India termed the film "all swag and no substance derailed family drama"; she was critical of "Vanga’s take on women or violence" but praised Ranbir "raw sex appeal and unmatched intensity".[40] In a one-star review, Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express expressed disappointment that the performances of Ranbir and Anil Kapoor had been "wasted in this pointless, vile tale".[41]
The dynamics between the male protagonist and another woman, familiar to the female protagonist, seem to be drawn out excessively [Eenadu 1].
