This content is from: Call of Duty Wiki:About
- Q: What is Call of Duty?
A: Call of Duty is a video game franchise developed by Infinity Ward and Treyarch and published by Activision. It focuses on real-life war battles during World War II. The Modern Warfare series, made up of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, however, focuses on events that may happen in the near future. All of the games contain real-life weapons, such as the Thompson, and M1 Garand for World War Two games, and the M4 carbine, and the MP5 for Modern Warfare games.
- Q: Sounds neat! What systems is it for?
A: The original Call of Duty was released on Oct 29, 2003 for the PC. It later became available for download on the Xbox 360 and PS3 on November 10th, 2009. Call of Duty 2 was released two years later for the PC and Xbox 360. Another year later, Call of Duty 3 came out for the Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, Wii, and the Xbox. Another year later, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare came out for the PC, Xbox 360, PS3, and Nintendo DS. It was also released under the name Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Reflex for the Wii. A year after that, Call of Duty: World at War returned to World War II and was released for the PC, Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo DS, Wii and PS2, under the name Call of Duty: World at War: Final Fronts. The newest game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, is a direct sequel to ''Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and was released for PC, Xbox 360, PS3, and Nintendo DS.
- Q: How often are Call of Duty games released?
A: On a yearly basis. The two game developers, Treyarch and Infinity Ward, have a shared contract with Activision. This allows for two years of development for each company, while still maintaining a yearly release date on their games. For example, Call of Duty 4 was developed by Infinity Ward, while Call of Duty: World at War was made by Treyarch. During the production and release of Call of Duty 4, Treyarch was already working on Call of Duty: World at War. Usually the games are released in November of each year. Call of Duty 8, however, will be released by a third studio, Sledgehammer Games.
- Q: So, I have to wait an entire year until a new game in the series like Call of Duty: Black Ops comes out?
A: Yes, and no. You do have to wait until the new game comes out to get your hands dirty, but Infinity Ward will be releasing map packs and other (DLC) for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The first of which, the Stimulus Package, was released on March 30, 2010 (Xbox 360), and on May 5 for the PS3 and PC. The second map pack is to be released on June 4th for the Xbox 360. Other possible DLC could be ranging from a new map to an entire campaign level to our new favorite game. Treyarch released 3 Downloadable Content map packs for Call of Duty: World at War. All three are available on the Playstation store and Xbox 360 live market place. Each map pack is $9.99. All three map packs contain 3 new multiplayer maps and a new level in Nazi Zombies.
- Q: Can I see some graphic comparisons?
A: Sure! Here is a graphic comparison between the M1911 pistol in Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: World at War, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 .
- Q: What about clips of gameplay?
A: We have that too! We can provide videos from all Call of Duty games. Here are some examples from Call of Duty, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: World at War, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2:
- Q: Okay, NOW I am definitely ready to buy this game! Is there anything else that I have to know?
A: Yes! You must learn that the road to level 55 (or 65 in Call of Duty: World at War or 70 in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2) is very tough. You may shed a few tears after losing multiple times to the Nazis, Ultranationalists or the Japanese army. Remember this: during the long journey, you will be tested in skill, strength, and death-defyingness. You will master every weapon, you will master every vehicle; and you'll remember not to throw Tabun Gas Grenades, Stun Grenades, and Semtexes at yourself.
