Ethics of distributors
Is this worth a mentioning? I'm referring to comic book stores which limit how many titles a person can have and/or those that won't let people get any of the titles unless they buy something. This (especially the latter) seems to go against the spirit of the day.--HellCat86 22:42, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- I wouldn't mind it being mentioned. The store I frequent near where I live, as well as the store where I used to live have never imposed limits. In fact, the store near where I used to live encouraged everyone to take anything they were interested in. I've been hearing more and more about about places that impose a 3-book limit. I think it's really not in their best interest since most people will only go with the titles they're familiar with and won't pick up a book they know nothing about which could turn out to be a must-have series for them. If you need a reference for the limit, it's mentioned on the May 7th post at http://www.comicbookjournal.net/ . I'm sure you can find others if you look. I actually came to this article looking to see if FCBD had any official stance on book limits. -GamblinMonkey 12:31, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
- In my area, most have had 3-5 books per person, with one per title. This leaves a bunch left over of some titles, and at least one store (with a 2 book limit) then sells the left-overs several months later with a $1 or more tag. I can understand some sort of limit, but any limit does force one to make a decision IN LINE, and since part of the reasoning for a limit is to speed the line, it ends up being self-defeating. The one store in my area that had no limit in past years instituded a limit this year, and the line ended up going through the door and down the block. The figures never were put out (how many will be on e-Bay in a few months at inflated prices?), and I was there to see the entire display when they were laying it out. Movies
Should we mention the movies that were released around the time of each year? As in, list Spider-Man next to 2002, X2 next to 2003, Spider-Man 2 next to 2004 and Spider-Man 3 next to 2007. (Were there any for 2006 and 2007?) -Joltman 15:22, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
What the Owner of Alternate Reality Comics Thinks About "Free" Comic Book Day.
The owner of Alternate Reality Comics, near UNLV in Clark County, NV, has stated that Free Comic Book Day is a total sham. According to him, people come in, grab the free stuff, and then don't come back to another year. They don't visit the store throughout the year. To top it off, for Free Comic Book Day copies of the titles, the owner of the store has to pay for each and every issue, and the shipping to Diamond, and ergo, isn't actually free on their end, and Diamond walks off with their profit like a bandit, which is what they are.Coffee4binky (talk) 20:05, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Brick and Mortar stores only.
I think FCBD is for brick and mortar stores only. I think I read somewhere that web shops can't get the fcbd comics from Diamond. Can somebody confirm this, with source? 195.35.160.133 (talk) 11:24, 2 March 2010 (UTC) Martin.
German fcbd.
Starting on May 8, 2010, Germany will have their own version of fcdb called Gratis-Comic Tag. Perhaps the article should mention this? Details at www.gratiscomictag.de 195.35.160.133 (talk) 11:35, 2 March 2010 (UTC) Martin.
- yes, please include that information. I don't read German, so if you would, please edit the article to include the German version of FCBD. Vampyrecat (talk) 21:23, 30 March 2010 (UTC) P.S. It could go in the "Related Events" section if that makes sense to you. Vampyrecat (talk) 21:25, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
- I can read German and English, but am Dutch. I don't trust my English enough to make more than tiny changes to English articles; that is why I put this on the Talk-page. Perhaps somebody else can do it? The OP. 195.35.160.133 (talk) 15:45, 6 April 2010 (UTC) Martin.

- Thanks. The German day was inspired by the American day. Feel free to add that fact too. The OP. 195.35.160.133 (talk) 11:11, 20 April 2010 (UTC) Martin.

Merge proposal
The 8th annual Free Comic Book Day article is not very notable and is just a list. The list of comics from the 6th annual FCBD is already included in the article. I propose we create a new section that has a list of the comics available, but there's no need for separate articles. --Spidey104contribs 20:10, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
- The lists seem likely to overwhelm the article. --Nat Gertler (talk) 20:15, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
- But does the list solo warrant an entire stub article? --Spidey104contribs 20:25, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
- That it doesn't warrant its own article does not mean that it warrants a place in an article. (Last I check, the list for the eighth event is only partial anyway, and the list that's in here for the sixth event is only partial. It may be better to do away with them altogether. --Nat Gertler (talk) 21:46, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
Nat has a point. Should we "merge" the articles by making the 8th annual Free Comic Book Day article a redirect to the main FCBD article and remove the lists altogether? That's what I would support. Can we get the opinions of some other editors? --Spidey104contribs 16:32, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
The 8th annual FCBD list as a standalone article isn't necessary. Also I agree that listing all the comics ever distributed through FCBD on the article would overwhelm it, which could point to a separate article in itself, like "List of comics distributed on Free Comic Day" if someone has an interest in compiling such a list (I don't). BrokenSphereMsg me 02:24, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- I agree that there should be a listing of the comics available each year (not even the fcd.com site seems to have listings for past years), but the 8th annual Free Comic Book Day page is just an incomplete listing, not worth a separate entry. There seems to be an average of about 30 comics offered each year, if so that would be around 360 comics total from 2002-10. The best option probably is to merge the listings into one page ("List of comics available on FCB Days, by year"?), and link to that on this page; but there needs to be SOME form of listing. CFLeon (talk) 23:54, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- If someone does go that route - and I'm not suggesting they should - it should be titled something more like List of Free Comic Book Day editions rather than the "comics available" wording; not only do individual stores put out additional books, but some publisher participate as "bronze"-level sponsors, sending fairly random piles of overstock comics, and there's no appropriate way of tracking that. --Nat Gertler (talk) 00:06, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
As of right now it appears that everyone agrees the 8th annual Free Comic Book Day page should be a redirect to the FCBD article, and the lists removed. If people have the time, a separate article for the lists can be made at a later date. Does anyone disagree with this assessment? I will wait several days before I merge the articles in case someone out there disagrees with this decision. Spidey104contribs 14:57, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
- Merge and redirect. Just not needed. On the idea of a separate article I wonder how notable it'd be and if the FCDB site can't/won't do it then why should we? I'd also be concerned about WP:N and WP:RS issues and would recommend that if anyone was interested they should sandbox a version and run it past WT:CMC before making it live. (Emperor (talk) 02:28, 15 May 2010 (UTC))
- WP:RS shouldn't be a problem; the announcements of the lists of gold and silver sponsors and books were covered well by the online comics press (and that also addresses WP:N). The absence of the information on the current FCBD site is unsurprising; it's an ad site, forward-looking, with only the sort of historic material that is needed for press releases. I'm more concerned that it is listy in nature, rather than something more encyclopedic. (Making a comment like that, I suppose I should wave a small COI flag - I published a (somewhat lackluster) FCBD edition a number of years back.) --Nat Gertler (talk) 06:29, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
