The Presbyterian Church in Rwanda or the Eglise Presbytérienne au Rwanda in French was established by German Bethel Missions in 1906. After the departure of the German missionaries, they were replaced by Swiss and Belgian and later Dutch missionaries, the work progressed rapidly in 1916.
Until 1957 the church activities were concentrated in three main ststions like Kirinda, Rubengera, Remera. The church become independent in 1959 as the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Rwanda. The church was growing rapidly and changed its name to the Presbyterian Church in Rwanda. It mantained primary and secondary schools and hospitals.
