Central America
The best surf is generally seen on the Pacific coasts of Central America, with a wide selection of world class waves concentrated to a few select areas. While Nicaragua is known to host the best, most varied and biggest of the region′s surf, El Salvador hosts superior breaks as well and Costa Rica hosts scenic surf spots if you can bear the crowds. Costa Rica, easily host to the most developed and expensive tourism industry, has many accessible beaches. San Juan del Sur on Nicaragua′s southern Pacific coast is being recognized within the surfer community as an internationally respected mecca of Latino surfing and the positive atmosphere, cheap cost of living, epic surf and lowest crime rates for any country in the region also entice many American, Canadia, European, Israeli, Australian and South African backpackers to frequent the area and its uncrowded and often untapped breaks. El Salvador has moderate waves that are undeveloped and lacking basic access for the average surfer though has promise during hurricane season.
