This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Basketball. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Basketball|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- Note that there are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove links to other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Basketball.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Sports.

WP:NOTTVGUIDE applies here. Also LISTCRUFT (or WP:CRUFT). The subjects are not described as a group, failing WP:LISTN. Also, sources are about the game itself, many of those are YouTube links and none of those assert notability to this list. Those arguing for a keep claiming how useful it is, shall be advised to refer to WP:USEFUL. I also advise them to start a Fandom page if they want to save it so much. - Delete per WP:LISTCRUFT. Less about WP:NOTTVGUIDE as it doesn't necessarily apply here, but since each broadcast and crew can be covered in each All Star Game, the collection in itself is not notable. Conyo14 (talk) 18:58, 3 May 2024 (UTC)

WP:NOTTVGUIDE applies here. The subjects are not described as a group, failing WP:LISTN. Also, entirely unsourced. Those arguing for a keep claiming how useful it is, shall be advised to refer to WP:USEFUL. SpacedFarmer (talk) 07:43, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

- Keep, with sourcing from [4], [5] and [6].
- Delete per nom. The sources provided are about the ratings which can be a blurb in each Final Four article. However, media sections regarding which station, play-by-play, and color commentator is not necessarily notable to collegiate basketball (men's or women's). Conyo14 (talk) 20:55, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

Fails the notability guideline for organisations. Close to G11-worthy. I'm stunned this article has managed to stick around in this state since 2006 and even gets a link in Index of Australia-related articles. Only bringing to AfD since it does get a paragraph in the Sydney Morning Herald The only other sources I found were short pieces in local newspapers that fail WP:AUD. I'm happy to email full text to anyone who is interested, but they really weren't adequate. – Teratix ₵ 03:25, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Merge a couple of achievements (most triple-doubles, but not Best Dressed NBA player and not "set with Kevin Durant") to his article, which isn't so long that they need to be WP:SPLIT off. The rest are cherry-picked nonsense (e.g. "One of two players in NBA history to average at least 31.2 points, 9.1 rebounds and 10.3 assists in a calendar month").Clarityfiend (talk) 21:37, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
- Delete per Bagumba. Clarityfiend (talk) 00:01, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
MergeChanging vote to Delete after Bagumba's comments. In full agreement with Clarityfiend that the article is full of meaningless fluff like "best dressed" and an Espy Award no one cares about. "NBA achievements" is about 95% unsourced original research. Clearly created by a fan as opposed to a neutral editor. 💥Casualty • Hop along. • 00:45, 30 April 2024 (UTC)- Comment @Clarityfiend and HopalongCasualty: The career, single-season and consecutive triple-double records were already in his bio (and sourced). - Delete Unneeded WP:CONTENTFORK packed with WP:UNDUE, indiscriminate, trivial stats minutiae. Major, defining achievements should be captured in the main bio. The basic stats are already at Dennis Rodman § NBA career statistics. Also fails WP:NOTSTATS:
Statistics that lack context or explanation can reduce readability and may be confusing
As most of this page is unsourced, there's no opportunity to merge either.—Bagumba (talk) 15:31, 3 May 2024 (UTC) - Delete as a content fork of the biography. P.S. It's hard enough for the stats people to keep things updated in one centralized place, let alone if every player starts getting a biography page and a stats page. - Delete Per nom, don't need such lists especially said achievements can be placed in the player's own main page in an accolades, or legacy area. Will also copy paste this to the other aforementioned lists. Noorullah (talk) 05:48, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Comment And for reference, there's recent golf player's Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of career achievements by Jack Nicklaus. Less related but still relevant to the discussion. - BeFriendlyGoodSir (talk) 05:50, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- WP:TOOBIG, cited in Nicklaus' case, doesn't apply to Garnett's page.—Bagumba (talk) 06:24, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree. But someone will possibly make the assertion that every single career achievement page (across all sports) should be deleted (already happened in previous AfD discussions). Before they go there, they should consider Nicklaus' AfD result. - BeFriendlyGoodSir (talk) 18:14, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Category:Career achievements of sportspeople shows that 18 racing drivers have their own career achievements page. Is WP:TOOBIG the reason why? - BeFriendlyGoodSir (talk) 18:33, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. —Bagumba (talk) 00:55, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
- Those articles make a little bit more sense in racing sports and golf, which have lots of discrete named events. From a maintenance perspective, they're easier to manage. Many of the achievements listed in NBA articles are cumulative stats and career rankings that are continuously subject to change. Zagalejo (talk) 04:14, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- WP:TOOBIG, cited in Nicklaus' case, doesn't apply to Garnett's page.—Bagumba (talk) 06:24, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Delete Unneeded WP:CONTENTFORK packed with WP:UNDUE, trivial statistics. Major, defining achievements should be captured in the bio, which it already does in its main prose and via tables and lists at Kevin Garnett § NBA career statistics and Kevin Garnett § Achievements and records. The rest here fails WP:NOTSTATS:
Statistics that lack context or explanation can reduce readability and may be confusing
The page is a pure stats dump.—Bagumba (talk) 15:16, 3 May 2024 (UTC) - Delete as a content fork of the biography. P.S. Reviewed during NPP. No evidence of notability under SNG or GNG. The SNG explicitly says that these are not presumed notable and thus require GNG sources. Misses that by several levels. The one source that the article has is about the league. "Stats" only article also relates to wp:not. Tagged for sources since January. Previously deleted. North8000 (talk) 15:00, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: Have you noticed that all the teams from 2018 have season entries? Geschichte (talk) 16:32, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
- No, but now I looked....at just the ones in the NPP que. It is then further multiplied by articles on pairs of those teams. Titled as rivalry articles, where (per a quick preliminary look) the sources don't describe them as rivalries. North8000 (talk) 20:31, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
- Comment as it stands, fails GNG on its face, but I'm not sure how to conduct a BEFORE search for this. SportingFlyer T·C 17:40, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
- IMO the ones excluded by the SNG have a near-zero chance of having GNG level sources. North8000 (talk) 19:21, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
