- This is an absolutely blatant copyright violation marked as a "public domain image". It's simply a photograph of a menu. JoshuSasori (talk) 00:18, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- On a technical note, SVG files can NOT be photos. They are mathematical shapes. I made the file so long ago I don't remember a lot of details about it. If I remember correctly I used photos as bases for the menu food items, but when I assembled it together it was an image that was not a copyrighted photo. I think this is OK for me to call my own? - The picture is absolutely obviously a copy of a non-free image. The argument about file format is disingenuous at best. A photograph in JPEG format is just a collection of numbers too. JoshuSasori (talk) 03:34, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Sorry, not trying to be disingenuous, as you can see in the original description I was also curious if this was enough of creation to count as my own work? I am honestly curious where the line is drawn. I did make this myself, so is it my work? I'm not trying to say you are wrong or right I am just trying to understand the line better. Cheers, Nesnad (talk) 08:35, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- The picture is basically the menu so it's very hard to see how it can not be a copyright violation. If I take a photograph of the text of JK Rowling's latest Harry Potter book and turn it into an SVG and then put it on Wikipedia, that will not make the SVG "my own work" and JK Rowling's lawyers will probably turn up. JoshuSasori (talk) 08:45, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Do you have a source that proves this is just a 100% reproduction of the menu? I seem to remember I made my own image based on the way the menu is laidout, and I traced some of the outlines of text and what not, but intentionally obscured that, and made my own image based on what the menu looks like? I made that so long ago, so thats just a kind of guess :) Do you have a photo that proves this is a direct copy? Honest question. Because I was at Watami last week, and I remember their menu looked different than that. Cheers, Nesnad (talk) 10:25, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- Sources indicate that this is a copyrighted logo. It was created by Harold "Hal" Sandy in 1946 who paid to register the copyright and then sold it to the Kansas Union Bookstore around 1947. See e.g. [1] and [2] Page 14 of of the Jayhawk Los Angeles 2011.docx this source in particular indicates that the "original Happy Jayhawk decals" included the language "copyright Hal Sandy". I have not located actual registration or transfer online, but they predate the years which have been widely converted to digital records. VernoWhitney (talk) 19:01, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete The font is different from Sandy's, and even if his was free, the difference would make this version unfree. - Presidentman talk · contribs (Talkback) 20:46, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
