Football at the 2008 Summer Olympics - Men's tournament Group A
AfDs for this article:
- Football at the 2008 Summer Olympics - Men's tournament Group A (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) (delete) – (View log)
I believe this article classifies as over-coverage of this particular football tournament. The tournament is not a senior one, and is not even an important one in the football calendar, compared to the FIFA World Cup or the UEFA European Championships, which do deserve this sort of article. – PeeJay 08:24, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football related deletions. – PeeJay 08:29, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Merge into Football at the 2008 Summer Olympics - Men's tournament (assuming that tournament is notable enough for its own article). Bettia (rawr CRUSH!) 09:06, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Yes, this is too detailed. Football at the 2008 Summer Olympics - Men's tournament is the most that is needed. Either delete or merge (although without the detail such as precise team composition). Sam Blacketer (talk) 09:32, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Merge to the football article identified above. However I'd suggest that snap nominations of this sort might be a bit of a losing battle while the Olympics are underway. Unless WP:BLP is violated it may be a more efficient use of effort to let these ultra-detailed articles run their course till the games end, then go in and merge or AFD-nominate as applicable. Otherwise people will just end up recreating these things all over the place. Just my 2 cents. 23skidoo (talk) 12:38, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete or Merge to Football at the 2008 Summer Olympics - Men's tournament. This one is too detailed for a stand-alone article. Nsk92 (talk) 12:41, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep. "and is not even an important one in the football calendar" the fallacy of this statement shocks me. I'm not 100% convinced that such detail is necessary - but if it is, I'd think it is better placed in a separate article, or else the Football at the 2008 Summer Olympics - Men's tournament will become very long and difficult to read through. Nfitz (talk) 17:07, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- I agree that if such detail was necessary for a non-senior tournament, separate pages would be necessary. However, since the tournament is, technically, a youth tournament for Under-23s, such detail is not necessary, and the {{footballbox}}es can be placed in the main article. – PeeJay 17:32, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- One side effect of the arguments being used here, is that by merging, reducing, or eliminating pages like this because it's not a senior mens tournament, one is validating the creation of similiar pages under Football at the 2008 Summer Olympics - Women's tournament, which is a senior tournament. Which might lead to an ironic situation. Nfitz (talk) 22:54, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment. There is precedent regarding how this issue has been dealt with for the prior Olympic games. E.g. for the three previous games we only have the common footbal tournament pages, but not pages for subgroups:Football at the 2004 Summer Olympics - Men's tournament,Football at the 2000 Summer Olympics, Football at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Looking at those pages, it seems to me that they provide sufficient detail and do not need breaking them into further subpoages. In fact, there are benefits to being able to look at the whole info in a single page and not have to have to search through subpages to see the tournament results. - Comment it is important becasue it is the Olympics, and thus important to those outside of the football world. It's the only tournament of worldwide profile that the usual suspects don't attend in force. 70.55.85.40 (talk) 05:30, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per nom. There is nothing significant about this competition. BlackJack | talk page 08:40, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Merge with Football at the 2008 Summer Olympics - Men's tournament the tournament is notable enough to have it's own article, but there is no point spliting each group into separate articles. BUC (talk) 11:45, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Merge as suggested. This is not exactly an application of NOT NEWS, but t he same principle of avoiding the excessively detaaled coverage of contemporary events. DGG (talk) 16:53, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Merge as above. GiantSnowman 10:31, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Merge, leaning toward keep per above. It's important enough to warrant keeping most of the information on this page, but not in its own article. Bart133 t c @ How's my driving? 00:57, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
