Administrators' newsletter – May 2017
News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2017).
- Karanacs • Berean Hunter • GoldenRing • Dlohcierekim
- Gdr • Tyrenius • JYolkowski • Longhair • Master Thief Garrett • Aaron Brenneman • Laser brain • JzG • Dragons flight
- An RfC has clarified that user categories should be emptied upon deletion, but redlinked user categories should not be removed if re-added by the user.
- Discussions are ongoing regarding proposed changes to the COI policy. Changes so far have included clarification that adding a link on a Wikipedia forum to a job posting is not a violation of the harassment policy.
- You can now see a list of all autoblocks at Special:AutoblockList.
- There is a new tool for adding archives to dead links. Administrators are able to restrict other user's ability to use the tool, and have additional permissions when changing URL and domain data.
- Administrators, bureaucrats and stewards can now set an expiry date when granting user rights. (discuss, permalink)
- Following an RfC, the editing restrictions page is now split into a list of active restrictions and an archive of those that are old or on inactive accounts. Make sure to check both pages if searching for a restriction.

Failed verification
Hi. I thought I had done away with my earlier challenge before you revived it. However, I still fail to see any verification of the sentence "The team had until July 2016 to excavate the site before the quarry owners required the land back." The citation's final sentence says "The team is just over halfway through the eight-month dig to uncover the secrets of the site and the people who lived there". So, where does it say the owners (who were partners in the dig) "wanted the land back"? My understanding is that a change of soil moisture content imposed a time limit related to speedy degradation of preserved timber, etc. Bjenks (talk) 16:50, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Thank you
For altering the small text to large, at my User page. Apologies if use of small text was inconsiderate. Otherwise, having reviewed your User page, would note that I collaborate with academicians that study WP, and would be glad for a chat sometime. Remainder to come via email, cheers. New Page Review - Newsletter No.4
Since rolling out the right in November, just 6 months ago, we now have 814 reviewers, but the backlog is still mysteriously growing fast. If every reviewer did just 55 reviews, the 22,000 backlog would be gone, in a flash, schwoop, just like that!
But do remember: Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature to let the creator know about your maintenance tags. See the tutorial again HERE. Get help HERE.
Stay up to date with recent new page developments and have your say, read THIS PAGE.

Bronze star and Notablilty for WPMILHST removing Daniel Klem again
Hi Pig, I am removing Daniel Klem from WPMILHIST again. He fails notability for Wikipedia:SOLDIER Military service does not in and of itself place an individual within the scope of the project—particularly in the case of service in modern militaries. To qualify them, an individual's military service must have been somehow noteworthy or have contributed—directly or indirectly—to their notability. A bronze star is not a notable award. To put into perspective with 170,626 BSMs with valor and 549,343 for Achievement/Service Bronze Stars were awarded during the Vietnam War alone. --Molestash (talk) 23:32, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Molestash: Wikipedia:SOLDIER is about the notability of article subjects, not their relevance to a project. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 08:41, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

The Seven Princesses
Lovely to see you last week. I discovered The Seven Princesses at the MAK, one of the greatest works of Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh, but there is almost no information about it online. Despite its amazing story of rediscovery in 1995... Have you come across any good sources about it? I will check German language sources. – SJ + 15:16, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Sj: Great to see you, too. I'm sorry to have missed that; but then there is so much in Vienna I want to go back and see. Still, I enjoyed visiting the Leopold Museum, and seeing much of the art nouveau architecture I'd read about. I don't know of any sources for The Seven Princesses, other than what Google finds, but will keep a look out. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:56, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
