Split proposal
Although the current article is not so large nor so confusing to urgently require a split, I suggest separating into historic Midlothian / Edinburghshire and modern Midlothian local authority area, since there is a clear difference in their size and scope, and a clear point at which the smaller entity was formed (i.e as a district in 1975). A few other entities with the same name but different boundaries, primarily Aberdeenshire and Renfrewshire, have been dealt with in this way.
