The March of Wales
It strikes me that there needs to be a separate article on the medieval "March of Wales" - which could be started by moving the section which was transferred to this article some time ago. The remaining Marcher Lord article could then be a more general overview which also covers other parts of Europe. The proposed March of Wales article could also include a List of Marcher lordships which has also been suggested. There's also a link Pura Wallia and Marchia Wallie which currently directs to an article specifically on Gwynedd and which needs to be developed. I'm no expert, but I am reading a new book, The March of Wales 1067-1300 by Max Lieberman, which I could use to help put something together, along with other sources. Any views? - To avoid multiple discussions on this I suggest that replies to this should be placed on Talk:Welsh Marches, not here. Peterkingiron (talk) 19:30, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Suggested merger with List of Marcher lordships
An article consisting of just a list always suffers from lack of introduction to the topic. Both articles are at present short and space considerations on a merger are not therefore a problem. Is any purpose served by providing a stand-alone list divorced from an explanatory article? The article could perhaps be standardised to the format used in English Feudal Baronies, with a detailed discussion followed by a detailed listing. I suggest the List be merged into this article. Comments please. (Lobsterthermidor (talk) 17:01, 27 January 2011 (UTC)) See also format in List of Scottish feudal baronies. Here an introduction has been provided, but the natural tendency is for this to grow, repeating much of the information already given in the "stand-alone" companion article Scottish feudal lordship. (Lobsterthermidor (talk) 17:05, 27 January 2011 (UTC))
- The list was originally at Welsh Marches, and was then cut and pasted into a separate article - I can't remember the reason, but it seemed pointless to me. Have you thought at all about the overlap between this article and the Welsh Marches article? Ghmyrtle (talk) 17:23, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response. I hadn't thought about the overlap with the Welsh Marches article, please express your thoughts on that issue after assessing the following. Here is what I propose as a logical structure for the broad area of the Feudal Barony:
- "Feudal barony" (effectively an entry level disambiguation page, to be created by renaming Feudal baron and de-merging its constituent elements into the articles listed below. Feudal baron mainly concerns Scottish baronies and is 99% identical to Prescriptive barony. The latter needs to be merged into the former.)
- English feudal barony- article to be renamed, and to receive merger from Barony (country subdivision)
- Scottish feudal barony- article to be renamed and to receive demerged Scottish elements from Feudal baron
- Irish feudal barony- new article, to be de-merged from Feudal baron. Done, text copied, but not demerged pending consultation.
- Scottish feudal lordship - no changes needed, ideal format.
- Marcher lordship to be renamed & merged from List of Marcher lordships
I am pasting the above to talk pages of the other articles concerned. Your comments please.(Lobsterthermidor (talk) 20:58, 27 January 2011 (UTC))

Marcher Lord → Marcher lord – I see no reason to capitalize a common noun here. See MOS:JOBTITLES or, indeed, any academic style guide out there. Surtsicna (talk) 14:06, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
