Photo of Devon Great Consols mine locomotive "Hugo" at the mine. Hugo was an 0-4-0 locomotive built by Thomas Spittle, Ltd. of Newport in 1882. The cylinders were 10 inch diameter by 13 inch stroke, the 4 drivers were 2 feet, 8 inches in diameter and the boiler pressure was 90lbs per square inch. The engine was green with yellow stripes. There was an identical engine, "Ada". "Hugo" was no longer on the property at the time of the mine closure, but in south Wales (sold?). |
