English: Bust of a Buddhist guardian figure; gilt bronze. Fierce, armored guardian figures were placed at the entrances Buddhist temples in a protective capacity. This figure may be one of the Four Guardian Kings (Lokapala). Many of them, like this one, were much larger than life-size. In addition to bronze, iron was a favorite material. From the People's Republic of China. Yuan Dynasty, 14th century CE. On display at the British Museum in London.
