California

California has the largest number of Veterans residing in the state that are also homeless.
Total Homeless Veterans on a Single Night in January 2016:

  • California had the largest number of veterans experiencing homelessness at 9,612. Homeless veterans in California represented 24% of the national homeless veteran population. California also had the third highest rate of unsheltered veterans at 58.3% (5,600 were unsheltered).
  • Homelessness among veterans had declined most dramatically in
    California, where the number fell by 1,699 people (15%) since 2015 and
    46.5% since 2009.
  • California possesses the 4 of the top 5 major city CoC’s with the
    highest rate of veterans homeless.
