Usage

This template places the page in Category:Candidates for history merging. Note that this is a hidden category, and so will not show up on the page by default.

Place this template on the target article, i.e. the page where the text was pasted into (not on the talk page). If the issue is clear-cut (straight up cut-and-paste move to a better title), having this speedy delete tag on the page should be enough. In more complex cases (explained at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge), please leave a description of the problem under the "List of cut-and-page moves to be redone properly" section at the Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.

Please consider notifying the user who did the cut-and-paste move with {{uw-c&pmove}} on their talk page.

Parameters

Copy-paste:

{{History merge | originalpage= | reason= | details= }}

• first parameter or originalpage - Page to be merged from.
• reason - short reason. It should end with a full stop because it will complete the sentence:

  It is requested that the page history of [wikilink of page to be merged from] merged into the history of this page because [reason]

• details - if present, will add the text This is a complex history merge request and a collapsed show/hide box listing the details.

Examples

Simple usage when there is no overlapping edit history, all edits are to be merged in, and a redirect is to be left behind:

• {{Histmerge |originalpage=title of the page to be merged into here}}

Example where a reason is provided:

• {{Histmerge | title of the page to be merged into here|reason=attribution needs to be preserved.}}

Complex example where special instructions are provided to the merging administrator:

• {{Histmerge | title of the page to be merged into here|reason=attribution needs to be preserved.|details=Merge in only edits between 00:01 January 1 1964 and 23:23 October 10, 2016. This was deleted under [[WP:PROD]] and recently [[WP:REFUND]]ed but a different editor pasted in nearly-identical text from a Wiki mirror under a slightly different name.}}

When NOT to use this template

For very complex merges, merges involving more than two pages, or when the use of this template is otherwise inadequate or where its usage would cause problems, list the request in Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
