:: PrimeHunter, DuncanHill, ONUnicorn, & Suffusion of Yellow, yeah, I didn't get any notifications whatsoever—of failure or success—for those three attempted pings. PrimeHunter, you might be right about the formatting edits in my diffs, so I guess I'll put that particular form of obsessiveness to rest for now (or, at least, separate it from pings). It looks like each diff, with the conspicuous exception of the first example above, modified a paragraph that already included a signature, so perhaps that caused some funkiness. And the last three failed pings were in in paragraph that already had a signature, so perhaps the same principle is at play there. Assuming the four pings in this paragraph go through successfully, I'll follow them up with another ping at the end of this paragraph to check. --Usernameunique (talk) 23:09, 25 February 2021 (UTC) |

Points of Light, non profit founded by George H W Bush
Natalye Paquin is the current CEO and has been the CEO of Points of Light since September of 2017.
Please correct this as you continue to list Tracie Hoover as the CEO. Tracie Hoover left Points of Light in 2017. This can be verified by going to the Points of Light web site. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:C0:CA7F:1B60:6C82:DBC3:E159:1568 (talk) 00:52, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

There have been multiple failed attempts to log in to your account from a new device
I assume I can ignore this warning, as I have 2FA enabled? Sorry for being ignorant. —valereee (talk) 01:11, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
- Wow, now it's telling me there have been nine attempts. Very weird. Did I get famous somehow? —valereee (talk) 01:37, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
- User:Valereee and anyone else - I have received four email notifications of failed login attempts over four hours. The web notification says that there have been 18 attempts. I don't think that anyone thinks that you (V) are a problem. I think that someone is a problem and is trying to cause a problem. I think that someone is trying to log in through multiple established accounts, probably by guessing at dumb passwords. I do not have 2FA, but I have a strong password that I remember, largely because I haven't changed it, and because no one else would think of it. I have checked my User Contributions, and all of the edits are those that I have made. My advice to anyone is to check your User Contributions frequently. If you see any edits that you did not make, either your password has been compromised, or your little sister or crazy uncle is using your computer. If your password has been compromised, change it. Permission to use photo
I have permission to use a photo but I dont know how to do the declaration of consent message. Can someone help me please? Golffan233 (talk) 03:01, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
- You having the permission is meaningless, as you're not the one hosting the image. Wikipedia is the one who would require the permission, and we won't actively seek such permission. —A little blue Bori v^_^v Takes a strong man to deny... 03:27, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

- The person who owns the photo gave me permission but I do not know how to fill out the declaration of consent template. Golffan233 (talk) 03:43, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Golffan233: What we need is an appropriate license (specifically, CC-BY-SA) from the owner of the copyright of the photo. That's not merely "permission", and it isn't from the "owner of the photo". The photographer owns the copyright, and CC-BY-SA gives everybody the right to use the image, not just us. These are not merely our silly rules. A real license is required by law, and broad reusability is a fundamental principle of Wikipedia. -Arch dude (talk) 04:49, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

- You are not the one the declaration of consent applies to because you do not own the image copyright. You filling it out is a waste of time. The copyright holder needs to be the one to do it. —A little blue Bori v^_^v Takes a strong man to deny... 08:36, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

- Hello, Golffan233. This article gives some good advice: Wikipedia:Example requests for permission. I understand what you're saying: the learning curve for managing consent is difficult, especially so for someone who isn't really interested in Wikipedia, only photography :-) – it's one reason many articles do not have enough/any photos. I can see the comments above are not very helpful and I especially don't really agree with the comment "You filling it out is a waste of time. The copyright holder needs to be the one to do it." My approach is to do the drafting for the copyright owner, give them the least possible work to do and get them to send off the consent I have prepared (which is compulsory -- you can't).
- This is because most of my photographer friends won't go near this because it's so complex. Since you say "the person who owns the photo gave me permission", and assuming that you mean also that the person owns the copyright, I would recommend choosing the CC-BY licence (the most often used) for him/her and copying, then pasting into a word processing appn and filling in the licence in the article, Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries. Yours might look like the following (the text you would complete is shown in orange).
Before I give the details, some notes:
1. If you know the purpose and subject of the image, I recommend you give the photo a comprehensive name that properly describes what it's about – the copyright owner will no doubt agree with it.
2. I usually upload the image just before the owner sends the consent.
3. Usually one of the OTRS volunteers will get back and ask the copyright owner to confirm what has been put on the Commons page. It can sometimes get complicated, so I usually add the note shown below at the end of the consent (but part of it) – and I check it and respond to OTRS.
4. Remember you can't send the consent; it has to be from thecopyright owner's e-mail address.
Dear Wikimedia e-mail response team member,
I hereby affirm that I, [The copyright owner's name], am the creator and sole owner of the exclusive copyright of the following image:
• Give the photo a comprehensive name that properly describes what it's about.jpg
which my colleague has provisionally uploaded at: Give the Commons URL].
I also affirm that I have legal authority in my capacity to release the copyright of that work.
I agree to publish the above-mentioned content under the free licence: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0).
I acknowledge that by doing so I grant anyone the right to use the work in a commercial product or otherwise, and to modify it according to their needs, provided that they abide by the terms of the licence and any other applicable laws.
I am aware that this agreement is not limited to Wikipedia or related websites.
I am aware that I always retain copyright of my work, and retain the right to be attributed in accordance with the licence chosen. Modifications others make to the work will not be claimed to have been made by me.
I acknowledge that I cannot withdraw this agreement and that the content may or may not be kept permanently on a Wikimedia project.

For any follow-up such as confirmation of the OTRS action, please do not reply to me but instead REPLY TO MY COLLEAGUE, [Golffan233, INSERT YOUR REAL NAME]: [INSERT YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS]. I authorise him to take any necessary action on my behalf. — [The copyright owner's name]
Golffan233, I send the above as an attachment to an e-mail to the copyright owner. The e-mail itself reads as follows:
Subject: Instructions for sending your copyright consent to Wikimedia
1. Please open the attachment and copy all of the text.
2. Paste the text into a new blank e-mail.
3. Address the e-mail to: permissions-commons@wikimedia.org — with me as a cc: [Golffan233, INSERT YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS]
4. For the e-mail Subject, copy/paste or type this exactly: Declaration of consent for re-use of image
(It must be exactly this wording to get through their automated system to a specialised Wikipedia volunteer; otherwise it gets into a manual-handling queue that is often rather long, which leaves the copyright status in doubt for that time and may trigger an automated deletion.)
Their confirmation
At the bottom of your consent I have included an authorisation for any post-lodgement confirmations or queries to be sent to me. Usually there is only one, asking for what the volunteer has done to be checked and confirmed. If there are more, it can get complicated. If they overlook the authorisation and a volunteer e-mails you with words to the effect that he/she has "made the necessary modifications to the file pages" and asking you to "please verify", check whether they have cc'd me too. If they have, I'll check the pages and let them know, with a cc to you.
Golffan233, I guess by now you can probably see how things can get complicated! And this is the much simplified version (the result of dozens of small improvements, many achieved by asking the copyright owners their preferences, what was difficult, etc). I hope this helps!
PS: It's a good idea to open an account, so I/we can "ping" you, among other benefits.

Deletion
A new article I created was deleted for copyright. The public references were referencing a public obituary (which I helped write) and was published at my request by one of those sites (and copied without permission by the other). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dbrujis (talk • contribs) 16:57, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, Dbrujis. First of all, I'm guessing from your username that you are a relative of Marcos Brujis: I'm sorry for your loss. As for the obituary, at the bottom of that page it says "© 2021 Legacy.com All rights Reserved", and in the absence of any other formal notification, Wikipedia regards that as definitive. If you own the copyright to the whole text (unlikely, if you "helped write" it) then you have the legal power to license it in terms that Wikipedia will accept; but only the copyright holder may do so.
- However, I think that the copyright is not relevant, because the obituary cannot be used directly in Wikipedia, as it would constitute original research. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a memorial site: a Wikipedia article about Brujis is subject to exactly the same criteria that would have applied when he was alive: both notability and biography of living persons (the latter applies to recently deceased people as well). If there are suitable independent reliable sources to establish his notability, then the article should be written based almost entirely on those independent sources; if there are not, then an article will not be accepted, however it is written. I'm sorry. --ColinFine (talk) 17:31, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

If I Write the CEO's Bio, Is it Likely to be Accepted?
Hello. The president and CEO of our well-known non-profit organization in the legal education industry has been told by numerous people in the industry that she should have a bio on Wikipedia. She is well-known in our industry. Prior to being named president and CEO, she was dean of a major U.S. law school.
I'd like to write this Wikipedia bio of our CEO. If I write her bio page and background simply as statements of fact--with no PR embellishments--could it be approved for publication? Or is it likely to be rejected out of hand?

- If you work for this person, you need to follow the instructions for declaring your conflict of interest.
- The first thing you need to do is forget everything you know about this person. Do some research, and do not write anything that is not backed up by previously published material about her. Cite sources for everything you put in the draft.

how to remove public IP address on a past edit
I am a first time user, and had accidentally edited a page without realising my IP would be shown. So, I created an account to hide the edit, however both the IP and the account aren't linking. I am wondering how to make the accounts merge somehow. Thank you.
Hickdole (talk) 03:21, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Hickdole: There’s no way to link IP edits to a newly registered account. If there were, you could claim any number of edits as your own. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 05:55, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

Name of WP Guideline Page
Hello, I remember reading a Wikipedia Guideline page that went something like, just because similar articles exist on Wikipedia doesn't mean that should be used to justify an article being kept instead of deletion- for lack of a better explanation. I'm not sure what the page is called so it would be very helpful if someone could link it down below. Thank you. SenatorLEVI 03:22, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

Updating of Page's title
Hi there,
I would like to change the page title of 'PSA Building' to 'mTower'. This is a property owned by my company and since we've changed the building name to mTower as at January 2021, we would like to update this information asap. Would appreciate if you guys can speed things up for us.
i've put up a request for speedy renaming/merging with the function

not sure if that's the right way to be doing this and if so, what's the next step from here. If any form of verification is required in order to make this changes to the page's title, feel free to reach out to me.
For more information, you can also head over to my company's website at https://www.mapletreecommercialtrust.com/Asset-Portfolio/Portfolio-Overview.aspx.

How to cite journal item with no title
I am trying to cite this review using Cite journal, but it has no title (e.g. see the JSTOR suggested citations), and so the template complains. I stuck "Review" in there as a substitute title just to quiet the template, but that feels a bit disingenuous (even more so because "Review" is an English world while this document is in French). Any suggestion on how I can properly cite this? Thanks. Brycehughes (talk) 05:13, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Brycehughes: The goal of a citation is to provide the reader an unambiguous identification of the cited work. The templates are intended to simplify this. You are in theory free to not use a template at all if it is just getting in your way, and construct whatever citation format you wish. However, in this case, I would use the template as you did, but with the title "Review of: Tibesti. Carrefour de la préhistoire saharienne, coll. « Clefs de l'aventure »". This most closely reflects the JSTOR entry.-Arch dude (talk) 05:24, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll either follow your suggestion or handwrite it. Thank you!! Brycehughes (talk) 05:31, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

I do a Lot of copyediting and have already tried many copyediting tools On wikipedia. However, I did not get any great results from them. and when I tried using Grammarly, it did not work at all or respond at all in any way while Wikipedia. i tried Grammarly with MS word and it gave me accurate results. according to "How to do copyediting", Grammarly should be compatible with Wikipedia. Can anyone help me with this?

- WP:Basic copyediting suggests that Grammarly has a browser plug-in that can be used with Wikipedia. If you have technical problems setting this up, I suggest you ask someone who is a member of the copy-editing team. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:06, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi,
I am from a communications agency based in Dubai, UAE, and writing on behalf of one of our clients. We have been trying to create a personality page and the request has been denied multiple times now.
Would like to understand how can we get proper feedback and go ahead with this?
If you have a local representative that we can speak to and understand the mechanics better, please let us know.
Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.50.41.77 (talk) 13:13, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
- IP editor, Wikipedia does not host
personality page[s]
, but articles. Your client should be notable for Wikipedia's standards, and if so, should ideally not be directly edited by anyone who has a conflict of interest (especially if there is a paid relationship). You could create an account, disclose your conflicts of interest and paid relationships on your user page, and submit edit requests on the article's talk page if it is created. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 13:51, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

The proper spelling of Shivaji's clan name (not really a surname) is either भोंसले or بھونسلے depending on which script he used during his lifetime. As Tenryuu said, there are multiple romanizations of his clan name, as you see in the Bhonsle article. Unless you have a reliable source for which particular romanization he personally preferred, or that scholars have agreed on since his time, we have no reason to change the the Shivaji article. -Arch dude (talk) 18:30, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

A question about the 'Notability' test
Hello fellow Wikipedians. I have a question regarding the Notability test. I'm a longtime editor from the Bosnian Wikipedia with a lot of work done and experience but also on a hiatus currently. I never did anything on the English wiki so I'm not quite familiar with all the rules especially since I'm on a hiatus for quite some time now.
Why I'm asking? Well, I have been contacted by a private party to create an article for them on the English Wikipedia about their relative who is a tennis player. Now the player in question is not a top player as of now and they are wondering whether he can have a Wikipedia page about himself. Will it be deleted or not? I have noticed that players ranked 800 + do have pages that are still on here. The player in question is currently in the top 500.
Can someone familiar with this explain the rules to me regarding the notability test and my situation? Is it safe to go ahead or does he need to improve? Thank you for your time. Best of wishes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1diggy3 (talk • contribs) 20:43, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
- 1diggy3 This tennis player must meet the Wikipedia definition of a notable tennis player, which is written at WP:NTENNIS, as shown with significant coverage in independent reliable sources. Please see Your First Article.
- If this private party is going to compensate you for your work, you must make a formal declaration of that, see the paid editing policy. Please also review conflict of interest. 331dot (talk) 20:51, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
- @1diggy3: There are four Bosnian men in the singles top 500 [3]: Damir Džumhur, Mirza Bašić, Nerman Fatić, Aldin Šetkić. They all have articles so I guess the player isn't Bosnian. Many players from small tennis nations can satisfy point 2 at WP:NTENNIS with a low rank or no rank: "Have competed in one of the international team competitions: Fed Cup, Davis Cup, Hopman Cup, or World Team Cup". Fed Cup is for women. Hopman Cup and World Team Cup is for a small number of elite players. But any man who is among the top players of his country at any time of his career could be selected for a Davis Cup match and qualify for an article. Somebody still has to make the article. The low levels like 2019 Davis Cup Africa Zone Group IV are full of red links. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:59, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

Hello, I find this french template https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mod%C3%A8le:Sous-titre useful because it can show a nice subtitle just under the very title of the wiki article. Changing the spelling for Diwali/ Divali
Hi there, This is Vaishnavi. I would like to change the spelling for Diwali/Divali to Deepawali/Deepavali. Deepavali/Deepawali means 'lines of Deepams'. In Tamil தீபாவளி = தீபம்+ஆவளி. தீபம் - lamps/ lights, ஆவளி - வரிசை (lining up/ lines). Diwali/Divali means a person who involved in bankrupt. Diwal/Dival means bankruptcy. This will change the entire morning of the festival. We celebrate this festival for Goddess Lakshmi who is the God for wealth. So, please change the spelling for the festival

Unwelcome censorship of reasonable content
The page dedicated to the lab leak hypothesis of the covid-19 virus has been taken down. Why is Wikipedia censoring a hypothesis that has never been formally disproven? How are new visits to a Wikipedia determined?
I recently visited the Arabic Wikipedia for the first time but did not make any edits. A very short time later, I received a welcome message on my talk page there. How was the welcoming user able to see that I visited that Wikipedia? Is there a feed of new visits similar to Recent Changes but that shows up with no edits needed? - When you visit a wiki for the first time, your account gets automatically created on that wiki, which is a publicly visible action. There is no publicly visible feed of subsequent visits of pages one your account has been created. * Pppery * it has begun... 01:44, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Is there a recommended word limit on edits?
I'm asking because I spent some time developing the page for Patanjali Ayurved. I have access to some news databases, so I was able to secure reliable and sourced information. Those edits have been rolled back by a more experienced editor who has not objected to anything specific I added, nor to the sources, but to the length of the edit. Their rollback mentions "same here - the massive edits makes this extremely difficult to review - too much seems highly questionable". I would like to know if a) there is a recommended length for edits, and b) if you can rollback an edit because it 'seems questionable' without engaging with the substance of the edit or the sources used. --Naushervan (talk) 03:56, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Naushervan: There is no hard limit, but larger edits are harder to review and if there is anything wrong, the entire thing must be undone. It is better instead to make a series of small changes. If there is something wrong with one of them then only that one would need to be reverted. Additionally, if you are planning a large change, it may be better to discuss on the talk page first. See WP:CAUTIOUS RudolfRed (talk) 04:26, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- I appreciate the response, but this doesn't clarify anything for me - I still don't know what kind of edit might be considered "too large" to review, and I also don't know how an edit can be reverted on the grounds that it "seems suspicious", particularly when even a cursory check shows the adequacy of sources. I spent a fair amount of time digging through databases, cross-checking sources, and including multiple references for more complex points in my edit - I don't think it's worth my while, or indeed anyone else's, to put that kind of effort in if it just going to be reverted based on someone's feelings. --Naushervan (talk) 05:13, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- You won't get a hard answer because there isn't a hard rule. An edit like this can add 100,000 kb to an article and not be controversial; an edit of just a few words can be "too large" if the few words are scattered through the article and make it difficult to review changes. (By "difficult to review" we mean, if your edit changes 10 facts and one of the changes is wrong, it makes it impossible to just click "undo" without also removing the nine good changes, so it makes it a nuisance.) It's not possible to codify as each situation is different, but as a very rough rule of thumb, if your addition is so substantive that it's effectively replacing the existing article with a completely new article which happens to incorporate text from the previous version, then it's preferable to do it as a single large edit; if the addition is a lot of things scattered through an existing article which doesn't substantively change the layout, order or format of the page, it's better to do it as a series of smaller edits. ‑ Iridescent 05:54, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

- As a rule of thumb, confine each edit to a single section of an article. When restructuring an article, it may be preferable to start with a pure restructuring, without substantive changes to or additions of factual information. For me, the overview of Special:Diff/1008430565 takes up 50 screen pages; since many of the affected passages are not side by side but separated by umpteen Page Ups and Page Downs, it is almost impossible to get an overview of what is going on. That said, it is not very elegant to use as argument that some of the changes are "extremely questionable" without further engagement while everything is properly sourced. --Lambiam 08:37, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Naushervan:, one of Wikipedia's methods of reaching consensus is the Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. You have already posted on the article talk page and I have asked @Hipal: to explain his objections there. TSventon (talk) 11:36, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- My rule of thumb is similar to the feedback you are are already getting: Keep edits to a single section, and don't make edits so large that you can't give a clear edit summary on what you're doing. If there's any contentious information, work around it or focus on it, but avoid combinations of the two. --Hipal (talk) 17:04, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

New Laptop received from the company with VPN
Hello All Wikipedians, hope you all are keeping extra care during this hard COVID situation,
I have a situation, I am using my personal laptop for Wikipedia contributions & it was under Bring Your Own Devices (BYOD) policy for little extra savings from the company. Now, I have opted out of the BYOD policy because I need that laptop for my kid's studies. The Company has provided me with a good laptop and it does have VPN software as well. I was using my Wiki account through my personal laptop & home internet connection. I am contributing to Wikipedia whenever I get time with a home internet connection. Now, with the company laptop usage can be from a direct home internet connection or through VPN.
Question: Changing a laptop that has VPN software installed will affect my account or Wikipedia terms of contribution?
FYI, I can ask for a fixed laptop with a separate dongle internet connection to maintain the Internet Protocol (IP) logs
VKG1985 (Talk | E-Mail | Contrib) 06:13, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- @VKG1985: No, using a VPN does not change the actual terms you contribute under, however, I have to tell you, that VPN IP adresses are frequently blocked as open proxies, so you might not be able to edit using the VPN. Victor Schmidt (talk) 06:20, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks Victor Schmidt, Changing laptop & internet connection without VPN will not affect right?
- As long as you can log on into your account, your rights as a user will not be affected. It may be the case that the IP address is blocked for editing, as per Wikipedia: Blocking policy § Open or anonymous proxies. The easiest is just to try and see what happens. You can also enter the IP addresses assigned to you in a Special/Contributions search, as for example in Special:Contributions/135.181.123.123. This will tell you if the IP address is currently blocked for certain functions. --Lambiam 09:11, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- Got it, Thanks Lambiam -- VKG1985 (Talk | E-Mail | Contrib) 11:22, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- @VKG1985: you might want to look at Wikipedia:IP block exemption, if you're unable to edit from the IP, you can ask for the flag (though your edits may be put under a bit more scrutiny, as long as you're here to be constructive it won't be an issue). Orphan
Hi I dont understand this yet, need help on this as I already added links Jonah Manzano — Preceding unsigned comment added by Westsidelight (talk • contribs) 10:24, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Westsidelight: An article is defined as anORPHAN when there are no other articles linking to it. It doesn't matter how many links go off from that page to other pages; it's all about whether that page has any incoming links to it from other mainspace articles. If it doesn't - it's an orphan. Here's what I see that shows me it's still an orphan. Unfortunately, it is also likely to be deleted as it does not demonstrate any Notability - a key criterion for acceptance here. It also includes a copyright image (presumably of yourself as the artist?) which doesn't appear to have been correctly licenced, and may also be deleted. To get around that, you would have needed to have put a Creative Commons licencing statement on your own website. I guess this is an article about yourself and, as such, we discourage people trying to promote themselves here. If your music career does take off, just think of this as WP:TOOSOON. Good luck. Regarding Page Deletion
Good Afternoon Wikipedia Team,
I would like to share that, My creating page : Atanu Raychaudhuri has been deleted by (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion), I would like to tell you this page has been a Bengali Movie Presenter and Famous Advocate in Kolkata High Court, West Bengal, India. So I explain his Education & Work Background. Also added his Film career, he has been produced more than 10 film on last half decades. He created his own solicitor firm & also film production House, I found his name on News Paper & afterteat I researched him on Google and other social media, And I didn't find him On Wikipedia, So I though I will be created his wikipedia, and this page is not promoted him or anything else. But somehow my content has been deleted in unknown reason, I want to resolve my issues and get back to my content. How it's possible, Please reply back to my request. I will waiting for reply. Souvik4296 (talk) 10:39, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- Souvik4296 You wrote on your user page, which is not article space or space to draft an article, but a place to tell about yourself as a Wikipedia user. Regarding the text itself, it was filled with much promotional language("is a very famous Indian film presenter", "Raychaudhury had a sincere interest in education, a keen mind, a love for orderliness, discipline and a sharp eye for detail"; "Raychaudhuri yet again proved to the world what deep-rooted passion, self-belief, corporate capabilities and keen business foresight can achieve", and others). It read as more of an essay than an encyclopedia article. An encyclopedia article must have a neutral point of view and as such usually sounds pretty dry. The few sources you had seem to be press release-type stories or other form of routine announcement, which does not establish that this person meets the Wikipedia definition of a notable creative professional. A Wikipedia article must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen to say about a person, showing how they are notable.
- Please understand that successfully writing a new Wikipedia article is the hardest task to perform on Wikipedia; it's really best to get some experience with Wikipedia by first editing existing articles in areas that interest you, to get a feel for how Wikipedia operates and what is expected of article content. If you really want to dive right in to creating articles, please first use the new user tutorial, read Your First Article, and use Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft. 331dot (talk) 10:46, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

When you "embark" on the talk side of an article and you enter a new section and you seem not to be with the writer "on speaking terms" there is no option to remove your conversation.

- Andietur Software Wikipedia is not social media where people have pages about themselves on which they tell the world about themselves. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia with articles written by independent editors, not the subjects of the articles. Editors may write about people and other subjects without their knowledge, as articles summarize what independent reliable sources state. If there is information in the article that is incorrect, we want to know about it, and you may tell us on the article talk page, Talk:Rishabh Sinha. 331dot (talk) 13:44, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- Maproom I think that the OP might think that the article is "fake" because they see Wikipedia as social media, so since Mr. Sinha did not write the article, it is a "fake account". 331dot (talk) 13:46, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

The Disappearance of Malaysia Airline Flight MH370
Dear Wikipedia
Disappointing that you never make any reference to F.G. Davies’ expert legal analysis of the “mystery” of the plane’s disappearance. The analysis looked at all of the available evidence and drew inferences therefrom. It was published in two parts in the Criminal Law & Justice Weekly in early 2018 (Lexis-Nexis). It is far superior to some of the comparable articles or books to which you allude. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C7:C606:C401:1CD2:631D:6835:3E69 (talk) 16:56, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

I am curious: why am I not listed on this page: ? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 00:15, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- Odd. The page is in the category, as seen at the bottom of the page, but it is not showing in on the category page. Some sort of database lag, I guess, since the other pages showing on the category page have their birthdays earlier this month. RudolfRed (talk) 00:50, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Joseph A. Spadaro: to update a page in a category, you either have to wait on the job queue - can be a while - or do a null edit on the page. See WP:NULL which explains this. - Instead of threatening anybody just BE BOLD and fix the error yourself. There is no such person like Wikipedia, it's an encyclopedia anyone can edit (and make mistakes or fix them). You can, too!
BTW, you do not donate to Wikipedia. You donate to Wikimedia Foundation, and Wikipedia is one of the WMF's projects. But WMF just runs the project, while its content is provided and maintained by a world-wide community of volunteers, who do not get a cent from WMF for their contrbution. People edit here because they like it and consider that socially useful, not because you pay them. Feel free to join. --CiaPan (talk) 08:58, 25 February 2021 (UTC) - Are you referring to the three articles linked below "RELATED ARTICLES" at the bottom of pages in the mobile version of Wikipedia? Those articles are chosen automatically by our software based on search functionality. I see it currently chooses Waterford Whispers News, List of fake news websites, Fake news websites in the United States for The Babylon Bee. It does not mean Wikipedia is calling it fake news. The article does contain the string "fake news" four times so I'm not surprised by the software choice. It is possible for editors to override the automatic selection with code at mw:Extension:RelatedArticles but this is very rarely done. My search found 174 cases in our six million articles. The Babylon Bee is not among them. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:28, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Stand-alone lists bold
Hi,
In stand-alone list articles, should every element be in bold? Is there a set policy or is it up to the discretion of editors/whether it is deemed appropriate? After having a quick look various list articles, it seems like it's article specific. In List of alumni of Jesus College, Oxford (FA), the first embedded list uses bold, whereas the following ones do not. I am befuddled; some clarification would be much appreciated.
Thanks, ritenerektalk :) 11:26, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- In that section (and the one for "Musicians" near the bottom of the page) the bolding looks out of place. This issue is not treated specifically in the appropriate List guidelines, but, looking at MOS:BOLD, bolding in this case does not appear to be justified. Mikenorton (talk) 11:42, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Mikenorton, cheers! ritenerektalk :) 13:45, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Removing details about myself Pauline Janson
I have edited a page about myself but 2 people keep reverting the edits. How can I stop the edits being reversed or how can I get the page deleted altogetherGrisport2 (talk) 13:14, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- Grisport2, better to ignore it entirely and allow others to edit it. Please see WP:COI. You may request edits on the article talk page. See Request edit Deletion is unlikely. Fiddle Faddle 13:24, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- More generally, Grisport2, see WP:ABOUTYOU for what you can do if there are problems in an article about you. --ColinFine (talk) 13:34, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Grisport2: The material about a marriage was not supported by the reference used, so I have removed it. DuncanHill (talk) 13:44, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Request for the Speedy deletion of this page as it contains false information
Hello Wikipedia. I am requesting for the speedy and immediate deletion of this page as it contains fake information which can lead to fraud and also there are many scenarios of article infringement. Kindly review and delete this page as it is urgent. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Things_Zoofari — Preceding unsigned comment added by 102.89.0.47 (talk) 13:25, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- This is unlikely to happen without community consensus, You are welcome to nominate it for deletion yourself. The most useful method is at WP:AFD. Making a request on this help desk wil not achieve your objective.
- In order to achieve a deletion you must declare policy reasons why this article shoudl be deleted. Fiddle Faddle 13:30, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Series of failed pings
Over the last month or two, I've been noticing that a number of pings don't seem to have gone through. At first I figured others had simply forgotten or not noticed them, but it's happened enough times that I think there may have been no notification at all. Examples below. Diffs are to the failed pings; parentheticals refer to the initial links, and indicate where users said the ping did not work.
- 1 diff (see last message)
- 2 diff (see last message)
- 3 diff (see last message)
- 4 diff (see 22 January message)
- 5 diff (see third-to-last message)
- 6 diff (see last message)
- 7a; 7b diff (see last messages; both pings failed)
- 8 diff (see last message)
There are also a decent number of cases in which I've needed to follow up, and I wonder if the ping didn't go through there either. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Thanks, --Usernameunique (talk) 16:53, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- Can you link the difs where you inserted the ping, rather than just page? ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 17:44, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- I found one of them here. I'm not sure why that didn't work. It looks like you included the ping and a valid signature in the same edit, which eliminates the usual problem. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 17:50, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks, ONUnicorn. Added the five diffs above. --Usernameunique (talk) 19:15, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- Usernameunique That's really odd. They all look like they should have worked, as does the one above, where you tried to ping me. However, I never got that ping either. This may seem like a dumb question, but you are signing using four tildes, correct? Not somehow creating a manual signature? ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 20:17, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- ONUnicorn, well at least that confirms that there is something weird going on. Yes, I'm signing using four tildes; it appears as --~~~~ when I type it out. It's manual in the sense that I type them out one hyphen and tilde at a time (so it takes six keystrokes), which is how I've done it for years. --Usernameunique (talk) 20:50, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Usernameunique: That's a correct way to sign. Is there something in the "Signature" field at Special:Preferences? Does "Treat the above as wiki markup" have a checkmark? PrimeHunter (talk) 21:11, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Usernameunique: Have you tried signing without the hyphens? DuncanHill (talk) 21:19, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- PrimeHunter, there's nothing in the signature field, and no checkmark. DuncanHill, I haven't, though I'll try it when signing this comment. It would seem odd if that's the problem, both because I've used the hyphens for as long as I can remember, and because my pings work sometimes, but not always.
- Incidentally, I've been following up (via talk page) on unreturned pings, and have added a couple examples above as a result. Usernameunique (talk) 21:59, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Usernameunique: Enable both the "Successful mention" and "Failed mention" options at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-echo. Then try to ping me. Wait a minute or so, then refresh the page. Do you get a "successful mention" notification? Do you get a "failed mention" notification? If so, are there any details? Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 22:14, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- Suffusion of Yellow, pinging. --Usernameunique (talk) 22:21, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- Suffusion of Yellow, I got a notification saying "Your mention of Suffusion of Yellow was sent." I'll keep those settings for now to see if it picks up any failures. --Usernameunique (talk) 22:23, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Usernameunique: I did in fact get both pings. So that was no help after all... It will get tiring to go back and forth like this. Maybe try pinging an alt account of yours repeatedly, and see what goes through? Otherwise, sorry, no suggestions. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 22:27, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- Suffusion of Yellow, I don't have an alt account, but could always create one. In the meantime, let me try pinging the other people who have helped out in this thread—in no small part because I'm not even sure my last pings to them went through. --Usernameunique (talk) 22:37, 25 February 2021 (UTC) Ping to ONUnicorn. --Usernameunique (talk) 22:41, 25 February 2021 (UTC) Ping to PrimeHunter. --Usernameunique (talk) 22:49, 25 February 2021 (UTC) Ping to DuncanHill. --Usernameunique (talk) 22:55, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Usernameunique: Didn't receive either notification. DuncanHill (talk) 22:57, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Usernameunique: I wasn't pinged by [5] or [6]. Many (not all) of your failed pings like [7] added blank lines or spaces in earlier text. There is no reason for a space before an indented post and you shouldn't add it to posts by others per WP:TPO. It can also cause poorly looking diffs like [8]. Blank lines between indented posts is against WP:INTERSPERSE. mw:Manual:Echo#Technical details says: "The diff chunk must be recognised as an addition of new lines of text, not a change to existing lines". I don't know the precise rules but stop adding spaces and blank lines, also when you aren't trying to ping. Start a new paragraph or indented line when you are trying to ping, not like [9]. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:58, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- I was pinged again, above. I think PrimeHunter has the right answer; I had completely missed those added spaces in the diffs. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 23:07, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- PrimeHunter, DuncanHill, ONUnicorn, & Suffusion of Yellow, yeah, I didn't get any notifications whatsoever—of failure or success—for those three attempted pings. --Usernameunique (talk) 23:09, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Accidental Luxuriance of the Translucent Watery Rebus
Accidental Luxuriance of the Translucent Watery Rebus is a Croatian animated feature by Dalibor Barić. The film had its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2020. It was an official nominee for The Satellite Awards 2021. The film had its USA premiere on the 12th February 2021, in the virtual Laemmle cinema. The film is made using collage, rotoscopy and animation techniques. In his debut feature, Dalibor Barić directed, wrote the script, edited the film, designed sound and made the music for the film, so it is an almost one-man show. Voices to the characters give croatian actors: Rakan Rushaidat, Ana Vilenica, Frano Mašković, Nikša Marinović, Mario Kovač, Željka Veverec, Boris Bakal, Pavlica Brazzoduro Bajsić. The producer is Ivan Katić and the production company Kaos LLC.
Reception
Michael Nordine of Variety gave a positive review and said "it’s also vibrant and alive in a way that few films falling under the wide umbrella of animation even attempt to be." Carlos Aguilar of the Los Angeles Times wrote: "Baric’s entrancing collage, with an incessant penchant for psychedelic dissonance, is in itself a rebus — a puzzle that derives meaning from drawings and letters." Fabien Lemercier of Cineuropa said: "Dalibor Baric is an almost complete one-man filmmaking team. But he is most of all an incredible, utterly extraordinary artistic talent, as demonstrated by his rich and ultra-personal feature debut."

Creating a page for a living person
Hello,
I would like to create a page for my boss and famous winemaker Mark Herold. Will you please direct me on next steps to do this?
Thank you, Kaetlyn — Preceding unsigned comment added by KaetBart (talk • contribs) 21:03, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- Stop. Do not pass Go. In addition to the issue of your WP:conflict of interest, I could only find one article about him (as opposed to his products or company),[10] which indicated he doesn't satisfy WP:BIO. Clarityfiend (talk) 21:18, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Disambiguation of a name
If there are two biography articles of people with the same name and neither is a primary topic, should a disambiguation page with the two names be created or should a hatnote be added to the top of one of the pages linking to the other? Andysmith248 (talk) 21:54, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- According to WP:NOPRIMARY a disambiguation page should be created at the base name. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 22:36, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Question about splitting a paragraph
The particular paragraph I want to split, located in the article of a certain song, consists entirely of variations on the same sentence, each of which is a quote or more from a review of the song, each prefaced by the reviewer and publication. The paragraph is overly long, and there's no real topical divide, as far as I could tell from skimming it. There is one sentence that starts off with "[w]hen", though, so that might be a good splitting point. Could anyone please tell me what to do about this?--Thylacine24 (talk) 22:52, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- I doubt that they could do so usefully, based on what you say. But if you pointed to the particular article, they (we) might. -- Hoary (talk) 22:57, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- This one. Sorry not to be more specific.--Thylacine24 (talk) 23:01, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
